ANYONE FLYING A NITRO MODELS FLYSWALLOW? WHAT CG ARE YOU USING? DID YOU TRY ADDING ENGINE DOWN THRUST? I TOOK OFF WITH CG PER BOOK AND THE PLANE WAS ALMOST TOTALLY UNCONTROLLABLE. UP DOWN UP DOWN LIKE TAIL HEAVY. TO GET CG THEY CALLED OUT IN BOOK I HAD TO ADD 20 OZ OF LEAD IN TAIL AND MOVE BATTERY ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE EVELON SERVO POSISITION. ALSO HOW MUCH UP ELEVATOR BIAS DO YOU HAVE FOR LEVEL FLIGHT? THANKS GENE

wow, your tailheavy alright, you didnt CG with the fuel tank full did you? i ask because 20oz lead in the tail is the first sign that something was not right.

this is not much help but one of my flying buddies bought one of those "fly swallows" when they first came out. i later asked him how was the the 1st flight and he exclaimed "nightmarish".....he claimed the cg suggested by the manuel was not even close . he also told me that the control surface throws were critical. after some hair raising trial and error he finally got it balanced and now it flys good. he has novi rossi tuned pipe engine on it and it is fast!.

try this ...

Try more searches in RCU, I had one but did not fly it, everyone who owned it says she flies really nice. I seen one fly too, and its nice. Not great but very nice. You better double check and see why your plane seems to be so 'tail heavy'. Did you go inverted to see how she handles?

My Feedback: (4)
I have to agree. I started reviewing one of these last fall. I have had to increase the tail weight three times to even get it airborne.
Once winter hit I had to put the review on hold. The last time I flew it, I DID get it in the air, but it was still very nose heavy.

hi all
i was given one of the flyswallow 46 for xmas.
finished it, balanced it where it says in the manual (16.5 inches from the leading edge of the wing)
im using an asp 52 engine and the amount of lead i had to put in the tail seems excessive.
test flew it , takes off then dives to the ground the engine stops then the planes bounces back up into the air lands on the ground again doing a kartwheel fit for the olympics lol.
after repairs ive just tried it again took off nice with a bit of up , flew for about 20 feet then dived to the ground, not sure if i released the elevator abit before it dives to the ground.
question is where are you setting the C of G and do you have to add some up elevator to make it fly straight.
cheers kevin
