Lanier 106" Husky
Has anyone heard or have any info on the new lanier 106 inch Husky. I found it on the tower hobbies web site. It looks to be pretty nice and from what I can tell from the photo it looks fairly scale as well. One thing I do not understand is the projected retail price from Tower is $824.00. I hope its a misprint because it makes no since at all. I paid $545.00 for my Dave Patrick PA-18 and its worth every penny, but $824.00 for the Husky?

RE: Lanier 106" Husky
Not bad when compared to the price of the old Byron Husky kit, and you had to build that one. But, at that price there will probably be a limited market. Looks good from a distance but I have no personal experience with Lanier kits, only Goldberg.
In my opinion the Goldberg ARF airframes are of high quality, but the fiberglass parts are flimsy and the paint chips easily. Lanier and Goldberg are owned by the same people, and again, in my opinion, their customer service is one of the worst in the industry.

RE: Lanier 106" Husky
The Byron Huskey was beautiful, but they were overweight and flew like pigs. Your right about the above mentioned customer service.
Some of the Worst around. As I stated above, my D.P. PA-18 Super Cub is one of the nicest and best built ARF's I have ever assembled. The scale gear alone would go for a minimum of $150.00 and the glass work is some of the best I have seen. The $599.00
asking price is very fair in my opinion. FWIW, I have been building and flying for over 30 years and I just can not figure out the $825.00 asking price for the Husky. Also, if it has the same flying qualities as the smaller goldberg electric huskey they will have to give them away. I guess we will find out soon enough. I sure hope the retail price is a blunder because as we have both said its a fairly good looking husky. I would also hope the weight would come in at around 15 to 16 lbs and not the projected 17 to 18 lbs.

RE: Lanier 106" Husky
Goldberg/Lanier products ARE overpriced IMHO. Compare it to other very nice and complicated ARFs from TF; Staggerwing $449. Cessna 310 $499.00. Then there are the new large Cox Wacos and T-28s $399-450. At over $800 for a 1/4 scale monoplane, Lanier is way overpriced in this category.

RE: Lanier 106" Husky
My love of float planes could cause me to look at this one, but the thought of dealing with Goldberg/Lanier customer service again is enough to make me puke!! They are also very proud of the floats for this arf at $206.99

As was their 30% Ultimate bipe. Over priced at something like $850 when it first came out a few years ago.
Funny thing--the parts didn't fit and word got out amonst us modelers. Nobody bought them after that.
Tower liquidated their last stock for $400+/-
Crystal Ball sitting on the table in front of me. Hands tightly clasped around the ball as I look through a tiny hole near my thumbs.
I'll hold out for the Husky. It'll be $300 in a couple years. They (Lanier) will only import one container of these. A few thousand planes at most. Tower will liquidate them starting in early February of 2009.
Unless you just GOTTA have it RIGHT NOW--wait. Patience young grasshopper.

RE: Lanier 106" Husky
If the parts fit, craftsmanship, quality ect...ect... is good, them I might consider one, that is if they fly well and don't come out weighing 18 lbs. But there is NO way I would even come close to paying the asking price, much less even 700.00 would be WAY overpriced. You will not find a better 1/4 scale "Super Cub" than the Patrick and its goes for 599.00 which is a great value in my opinion for such a top quality great flying PA-18. I know Patrick has serious customer service problems, and I really feel for the guys who have been waiting or trying to get one, but lanier will have to have done some serious homework to even come close to it.

RE: Lanier 106" Husky
Dick,
Are the landing gear covers for the float setup the same for the fixed gear? It looks like the covers are simply attached to the top of the landing gear wires.
Thanks,
Mike

Although it is only another Cub, this H9 1/4 Scale features scale functional landing gear, scale wheels, scale struts, full cockpit with pilot, opening door/window etc. ARF version $499.99 or PNP version with Zenoah G20 and 6 digital servos installed for $1099. This is an outstanding value...if I wanted another Cub.

RE: Lanier 106" Husky
You got that right Yak18. You don't want another Cub? What's wrong with you! LOL!
I'll be upgrading to the new 1/4 scale H9 Cub.
Dick is right about the KMP Husky, and it's only a sport version.

RE: Lanier 106" Husky
No more cubs for me (I've had 6). H9 should have made it an Aeronca Champ or Cessna 180...but that is thinking way outside the box...LOL
As for the Husky; in this price range it should have at least been equipped with scale functional landing gear.

RE: Lanier 106" Husky
As I've said before................It'll be a very cold day in a very hot place before I ever buy another Lanier ANYTHING......Their kits are crap and their ARF's are way over priced.
I built a Giant Stinger kit a while back..........what a joke...........they give you templates and pieces of plywood..........the top half of the fuselage is the cheapest plastic they can find............and the way they want you to put it together to finish it is assinine........
So many good companies out there.........why bother with Lanier...........
I wonder if they've ruined Goldberg yet?

Mr. Pettit,
I just noticed the review of the Husky. Any particular reason you mounted the elevator upside down?[sm=confused.gif][sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

Mr. Pettit,
You said the plane did not have a 106" wing span in your review. What is the true wing span. Now that you have had the plane for awhile give us an update on how she is holding up and flys. I am really interested in getting a large plane for land and floats. This looks like it might fit the bill. I look forward to your update. How is that Thor engine running?

Wingspan is 104", close but no cigar.
I put more than 35 flights on it, and 8 were off the water.
No problems at all.
The THOR engine ran just fine, starts easily and pulls the plane great.
The whole thing is now in the hands of its new owner.
