Default OS How about making an OS 200FX?

The OS 160 FX is a wonderful engine, but with the larger airplanes it seems to be falling short and something new is needed. Options - Mokie or Gas from what I can tell.... I really like OS products and am trying my first gasser with a Fuji 50. Jury is out, but would have easily sent my dollars to OS had they provided a larger glow option. With all the concerns about ignition noise and PCM vs PPM it seems a more powerful glow engine from this great company is much needed.

Anyone else feel the same?

I agree with you I am building the Hangar 9 80inch and would love to have a OS 2.+ FX engine Moki is a great engine but every os engine I had ran great from the start my 2 cents

Default 160 FX

Did you consider the OS BGX 3500? It has a little
more horsepower. 4.1 hp over the 3.7 in the FX.

Do you think the BGX has enough to fly the 80 cap

Check out the OS website. They say it will swing a
20x10 prop. I'm going to put a 18" 3 blade on mine

I can tell you personally that the bgx will fly the h-9 cap perfectly, totally unlimited 3-d with a 22x6 apc prop and 10 % nitro. hovers 1/2 throttle with rocket accelration, many people over look the bgx but i love them, i have several and always will .

just buy a BME 50 and forget you ever heard the word glow, you dont need pcm and as long as you keep 8" of seperation you will have no ignition noise. Oh and gas almost never dead sticks, and you almost never fiddle with the needles. Try gas and save 200 bucks a year on fuel

SMALLFLY

I agree : After going gas (3.2 TAURUS) I can't imagine ever going back except smaller throw type planes. I have in the past had all YS four strokes great engines, but too costly to run and too messy!!! I don't miss that. Just my thoughts :>)

Smallfly and AJT are right on, once I went gas I never looked back, in fact just the thought of the greasy mess glow engines make, makes me quiver. Also for about $4.00 worth of gas you can fly almost the whole summer. With the new breed of engines out there like the RCS 140 and 180, ZDZ's, and DA's there is VERY little power or weight advantage to the glow. Magneto engines like the Fugi, Zenoa and US would not be my first choice, I suggest an ignition engine, other than MVVS {bad experience}.

Default gas is winning out

Sounds like OS had better think about a gas alternative or come up with a better alternative than the BGX 3500. From what I can tell, the 3500 doesn't provide that much more power, but the weight is almost double. The 160 is a lite engine with greta power when you consider cost. Hard to beat the value.

I am going to give the Fuji 50 a try and maybe I will feel the same as you guys with gassers, but engine cost also plays into the decision. Sounds like electronic ignition vs, flywheel plays into the cost and user friendliness. Maybe as the saying goes, "you get what you pay for" applies. I hear you guys about the fuel savings, minimal adjustments and no dead sticks etc. You make a good argument.

At any rate, I hope OS is listening...........

It's my understanding that the ZDZ40 makes more power than the Fugi and the cost is close. It's also lighter and easier to start.

Outcast,

Have you ever tried 'quick start' spray into the carb for hard to start gas engine on RC planes? I have asked this question a couple times and not gotten an answer. I have read several threads on the magneto engines being difficult to start. I crank my small chain saw once a year to cut the Christmas tree and spary a dose of quick start in the carb and she fires right up. Since I only run it once a year it needs this stuff to provide a hot spark. I was thinking this might add a little boost for these hard to start engines. As i said, new to gas for RC.

Default age

lets not forget, the OS BGX 3500 is a dated engine!. i had a 91 FSR, it weighed almost double what the 91 FX does.

All the engines I am using have a separate ignition, and with the exception of the MVVS {junk} they are all easy to start. I have never had the need for Quick start, and have never seen anybody else use it.

lets not forget, the .91 fx is almost 3 times as small as an engine as the bgx-1, that is not a very good comparison man.lol, oh yea, my os.25 weighs half as much as my os .50fx , but wait??? will it fly my 6 lb. plane ??? noooo, hahahahahaha.
