The Hobbico is a nice one, I'm instructing a couple guys with these planes. The 40la is a little lacking but good for training purposes. I agree though, that you might be happier with the LT-40 ARF and a nice 46 engine that would work well in your next plane.

There is no such thing as a good RTF trainer, So I guess the 10 hours to assemble the World T-34 would not be included in the RTF category. If you don't have the time to assemble an ARF, you don't have the time to fly. If you don't have some patience, this is not the hobby for you.

The Super Star Select has been on the market for over 6 years now and is the # 1 selling RTF.
There are few Avistar planes pushing close to 150 MPH with the 46 LX BB engine and giving planes that cost a $1,000.00 or mre a good run for the money.
They climb fast and can do super fast snap rolls.
What do you and your club bembers do ?
Tell them to leave because their trainer is junk?
The plane below has a 6 foot wing span and will do 60+ MPH and climb for the sky like a home sck Angel and that s with a 10X6 prop.

Doubt it. The airframe itself can only take so much speed. To go twice as fast requires 4 times as much power in the same airframe.

I can only do one thing at a time.
I teach Primitive and Wilderness Survival Skills plus teach SAR to the ones who need it.
I have the patience to put up with the ones who find it more difficult to pick up on land navigation.
No such thing as a good RTF??
Remember that an ARF has all the hard work finished up for you

I did see with my own eyes clocked at 130 MPH.
It's pushing it and I wouldn't put it into a dive with full throttle but in level flight the Avistars are fast and very aerobatic for the wing they have.
I see your a Bush pilot?
Do you fly a Norseman?

Thanks for the resume. My apologies. You are completely right. Please forgive me. Just one question? How do you find the time to make 555 posts on R/C Universe? By the time you made 555 posts you could have built 5 ARF's.

No Norseman, just Beavers. 130 in a dive at full power I can understand, but I just can't see it in level flight. Just too draggy of a plane with a 46.

When the same plane already built and the price is cheaper.
BTW,
That Airstrike trainer will also do 60+ MPH and land at 20 MPH or slower if your going into the wind

I teach the skills of a demand bases.
My Girlfriend is a Nurse and i'd rather spend time with her rather then build 5 ARF planes.
That OK with you?

I asked about the Norseman because we used one for skydiving for several years.
They have a glide ratio equivalent to a brick.
We crashed and I had 12 jumpers wedged up against me on impact.
Thank GOD for that open arch to the cockpit

Thats your right in this Country.
But remember others have commitments, family affairs to tend to.
Others work long hours.
Some look in the TH catalog and see that they can get a plane RTF for $300.00.
Then consider they may not stay in the hobby so it can sell fast.
