I have trained several flyers in my club so I know what the hell I'm taking about. RTF doesn't mean crap in my book.
Every time I see one of these and the guy comes up and says (hey man I need some help) and I say ok, it usually takes about as much time to put an ARF together as it does to get a RTF in the air. I have spent as much as two to four hours getting a RTF in the air, when they advertise less than 15 min that's bull crap.
And you know what buddy in general you sound like a real
***** that can't take any critisium. I totally agree with what others have said it you don't have time to put an ARF together than you need to find another hobby like sewing or something girly like that, and with 500 posts beside your name one would think since you spend so much time running your mouth that you could have already put a dang ARF together by now.
If you don't like my comment I really don't care, but plain and simple you need to find a different hobby bud.

I can only assume that you make the people who come to you with a RTF feel real bad
I JUST LOVE RTF PLANES.
MY CHOICE
Maybe you should consider writing another book.
Have you ever considered reading the Bible rather then going around just trashing everyone you judge by your dead brain cells?

I bought an Avistar RTF for my nephew for Christmas. No way your going to charge the batteries and head to the field and fly.
Almost everything needed reworked.
IMO,
RTF= bolt on tail, screw together wing, and half ***** radio installation.

All the RFT planes I have took several hours to put into flying condition.
The throws had to be set,one servo rod to long and another to short.
Another servo did not have the arm centered.
But I think it's still a better deal because after looking in the catalog the same plane in as an ARF cost more and you have 20+ hours of work to do.
I just started that poll to see what one was more popular.
Thanks for the post

WOW!!!
Get over it and relax.
This is a hobby and people should be helping and not name calling and getting all unwrapped because some like the RTF planes.
I posted several reasons why many go for the RTF and you should be understanding enough to accept that or better yet don't post if all you can only cuss and flame.
Remember you can't get flowers if you plant weeds and that BUDDY is just what you and some others are doing

There are few Avistar planes pushing close to 150 MPH with the 46 LX BB engine and giving planes that cost a $1,000.00 or mre a good run for the money.
They climb fast and can do super fast snap rolls.
What do you and your club bembers do ?
Tell them to leave because their trainer is junk?
The plane below has a 6 foot wing span and will do 60+ MPH and climb for the sky like a home sck Angel and that s with a 10X6 prop.

Having said that I'd like to make some comments on the above quote as it pertains to the original posters concerns. I'm not bashing anybody as I don't know you from Joe down the street.
The thing that got my attention is why would anyone want to suggest this type of plane to a beginner??? For the sake of argument lets say this plane is even close to doing 150mph. Would you want a beginner at your field with this type of plane??? It will be harder for him to learn; the instructor will always be taking control back every few seconds. A momemts lapse with a plane like this and it could be all over with disasterous results (i.e. flys into the pits).
I'll agree that the Avistar is a good flying plane but in no way would I recommend it to a beginner. Its about as excellent as second airplane can get. It has a semi-symetrical airfoil and will get you into more precise aerobatics. The other airplanes on the list would be a much better choices but as also mentioned here, I've seen some pretty shoddy work come out of the box.
In this area, during the winter, 90% of the flyers are retired winter visitors. These are great old guys but with reflexes slowing and eye sight fading, the range of suitable planes gets narrow. As such, I've seen and helped with just about every trainer available. A couple of times I have walked to the flight line to seen nothing but high wing trainers some days. By far the best one is the Sig LT-40; hands down, par none. Around here it is the #1 sought after trainer. I can't say enough good things about it. It is a typical Sig high quality product, it assembles very easily, and with a ball bearing .40 is a perfect trainer. Its big, slow yet very controlable, and easy to fly. Later when your more capable, you can put a bigger motor on it. I've seen them used for glider tow (both pull and piggy-back), camera planes, night flyers, candy/parachute droppers, etc.... The funnest is a .91 four stroke, flaperons, max control surface throw, set-up for tail dragger, and an aft CG, its a great club fun-fly plane. It still wont be very fast but it'll still have a light wing loading. You'll be winning time/glide, and spot landing contests all day. One guy uses his set-up this way for a hovering practice plane.
Hope this helps,
Mike

Okay..... My bad. By the time I got thru the whole mess, "I" lost track of the original posters intent.
Personally, I wouldn't buy any of them after having seen what comes out of the box.
As for which is "Most Popular"??? Without actual sales figures its one of those pi$$ in the wind questions. You expend alot of effort and no matter what you do you end up all wet.
If you must have one, pick one of the flat bottoms if your a beginner and pick the Avistar if your comfortable landing in windy weather and are ready to move on. Don't do any high speed dives though.
I'm out,
Mike

There was no valid reason to repost the same post from another page.
1.If you read the thread this was supposed to be a POLL.!.2 But since everyone wanted to make it a discussion,I added my 2 cents.
I said many out there can't build for many different reasons.
Number 1 is no time and the RTF planes are the same as some ARF but cheaper.
Maybe some don't like the trainer type that you do.
There are many RTF planes flying and still selling good.
Like any other item when you open the box you may or may not have damage.
A father can drop $300.00 and in one evening make the adjustments and go flying with his son the next day.
Relax and look at the other side of the coin.
I noticed that only a hand full called RTF planes JUNK.
Just because you build an ARF doesn't make you better then any one else in the hobby.
Maybe you would like to itemize what is JUNK on an RTF plane?
Ask a young Girl or Boy if their having fun flying their JUNK RTF.
Before you call it junk though better look at that big smile on their face and thats what's more important then anything else.
Their having a blast because the plane you call JUNK is up their doing loops and turns and some unexpected maneuvers.

GEE!!! another one who has nothing better to do then search the boards for typos.
Well,
Let me educate you SEMPTER FI can be spelled either way.
Ask any marine from WW-2 and or any true Native American..
Actually the Avistar was doing closer to 200 MPH and it had a big rubber band.
Excuse me while I look for my can of net lice spray
