Best Engine for Ultra Stick 60
#26
Super Tigre 90 is fantastic...but..warning..My buddy had one...no two...My favorite modification is to use the Magnum or ASP 108 carb for more power..Worked great!!
Put tuned pipe on the engine....broke not one but two wings off and made really neat Lawn Dart. Tunied pipe, large carb..15% fuel around 1400 RPM increase on 14x6 prop.
Don't over do it.
Twinman.
PS NOT MY PLANE...Tee Hee

Well I thought I'd chime in again. Just for kicks, I pulled the LA65 off my Ultra Stick 60 and put in the Tower 75 that I had sitting new in it's box. Man, what a combo! I ran two tanks on the ground to break the engine in and sent her up with an APC 13.x6. The US60 flies awesome with the TH75. I can actually hover at 1/2 throttle and I'm not even that good at hovering.

We flew our 60 Stick with an OS91fx. Other flyers at our field swore it would be too much, but the combination gave us nothing but big grins. Takeoff with 6 feet of roll, easy hovering, aerobatics at half power. If a landing went sour at the last second, you could floor it and go up like an ejection seat. Still, you could drop the flaps and land like a butterfly.

Hey a
I love Ultra Sticks, its practicly the only plane I like to fly. I started out with a GMS .76 and hated it. I think I was blessed with a bad one. But after I moved up to a YS 110FZ and waw what a rocket! This plane loved the 110., it was balenced nicely and and had I found the extra plumbing to be of no consequence when using in-line valves.

Hi Frequency..... is that a video camera on board???? Are you using any computer mixing on you Stick? I'm kind of put off by the rudder/pitch coupling on mine.
Thanks,
Ernie

Go to the extreme
i have an ultra stick 60 with zenoah 20ei, just a little mods needed, elevator and servos on tail, reinforce firewall, and i put a landing gear from an older ultra stick 120, unlimited vertical with master airscrew 16x10

Duke... pretty radical setup... a couple of questions.
How much does it weigh?
When doing harrier landings, are you holding elevator and glide sloping with the throttle or do you establish a throttle setting you like and bring it in mostly with elevator?
Do you use mix when doing harrier landings or just crow?
I've got the US 120 lite and same motor. My harrier landings using crow aren't quite as radical as yours. My throws are not quite full position however, do I want to crank em some more?
I've not landed with the mix on as it increases the roll rate a bit more than I like for landings. My mix switch unfortunately turns on both roll and pitch mixing. Does the pitch mixing play into getting good harrier landings? If so, I may reduce the roll mix numbers as they can always be boosted by the dual rate switch.
Great video...thanks for it and for any advice you may have.

For the harrier landings you only need a windy day and the elevator to flap mix and some throtle just to maintain the plane flying
All mixes have the manual values, just the crow need some test and error
the crow mix, i normally use to landing on mark
The mix that uses flap and aileron to increase the roll rate, always is on because i like the fast response

My US 60 knife edges just fine. I must admit it has a couple of mods. I cut the wing tips off and reinforced this area and then put blind nuts and installed tip plates extending down. I just guessed at how big they should be. Now I can do nice flat turns and knife edge without much if any correction.
