What I'm looking for is a .40-.46 powered Trainer.
Both me and my brother would like to get started and we were looking at the MegaTech Nitro Airstrike ATF
It comes with an Airtronics Radio and their .46 Engine. Is there a better one out there?
Is there a big difference in quality as far as engines and kits go?
Please help a guy out. Its very confusing with all the ones available.

Yea, I have to second that, the Super Star Select is a tip notch trainer. I have taught countless folks on that plane.
Something to consider, go to a local flying field and see what radios others are flying, mainly the instructors. Here in Houston there are allot of Futaba people here, and several of us have a Futaba buddy box set up. I have seen it when someone comes out to learn and they have a JR radio and no one has a trainer cord or a buddy box transmitter. If someone showed with a Airtronics radio here, they would 100% out of luck with a buddy box set up. We can still teach them, passing the transmitter back and forth, but.......there are better ways.
If at you field, several fly JR, The Alpha trainer is very good.
Your local flying field should be your first stop, then to the local hobby shop.

I have seen both. The alpha and the one with the 40La I rec. the alpha. They fly about the same but the Alpha comes with a better motor that you could use on your 2nd plane. In this hobby you always got to plan ahead!!!

I think the Avistar is hands down the best trainer you could get (memcam provided a link). Unless you are particularly slow at learning hand-eye coordination, you will be very happy to have the Avistar and its extra agility. It is a very easy plane to fly, and is aerobatic (with its semi-semetrical airfoil) enough to wow some people at the field(my field anyway
). If I had bought a flat-bottom trainer, I would have been bored stiff a week after solo. Stretch your dollar, get an avistar.
P.S.
I banged the heck out of mine, and except for one incident(hit a metal pole! Easy repair), I had no repairs to do when I brought it home. Its a very sturdy plane. And I absolutely LOVE that they covered in true MonoKote!!!

Welcome to the wonderful world of RC flight!!
These are all good recommendations, and I think you'll learn well on any of them.
BUT!! Flight instruction is a must. You'll save a bag of money and hours of frustration.
If you live a hundred miles from the nearest club, at least invest in a flight simulator and spend a lot of hours with it before you even try to fly. (And you might want to consider buying one of the cheap foam electric Parkflyers to start out if you can't find an instructor.)

HI CETME. WELL AS FOR ME I CAN SAY THAT THE ALPHA WAS A GREAT CHOICE. FOR $300 YOU CANT GO WRONG. IF YOU CAN AFFORD THE EXTRA $80 LOOK AT THE HANGER 9 XTRA EASY RTF, IT HAS THE 5 CH. RADIO BUT THATS JUST WHAT I HAVE FLOWN IN THE 2 MONTHS THAT I'VE BEEN FLYING..... GOOD LUCK SPOONER

I second (or third, or forth) any of the trainers that these guys have mentioned......I would hesitate to buy anything from Megatech after blowing money on an Electric Airstrike a couple of years ago....it was junk. Go with a proven trainer!

I'm looking to go from firebird 2 to another plane, a electronic plane. i was looking at the airstrike and captiol flyer, and the megatrend skyliner.

It didn't fly......it's as simple as that. I thought it might have been me, so I had a more experienced person try it.....same result. The fuselage is a heavy plastic, and the wing and tail are foam. It doesn't have enough wing area to keep it in the air, or enough power to climb.....it was like a lead sled.
If you're interested in an electric, get a good 3 or 4 channel that has more of a proven track record......there are so many out there now that are better than the Airstrike.

Any of those RTF trainers will be good. But like the gentleman said before, check out what brand of radios are mostly being flown at your field.(especially the instructors) If you assimilate in this way it will be easier to get help from others as far as Radio compatibility is concerned.
