Default Great planes PT-19

Just finishing putting together a Great planes PT-19 with Saito 100. First low wing airplane to fly. Trainer 40 or a hanger 9 Cub is what I've been flying. Any suggestions before I take off?

Have fun!! The PT-19 has to be the easyest low winger to fly.

Currently flying one....OS .91 - more than enough power! Go easy on the throttle for take-off...it will break ground very fast with that Saito up front!

She flys like a Blue and yellow J-3

Enjoy....nice ARF eh?

I do enjoy my Cub. Nice slow flights. Appears I picked a good 2nd plane.

I've been flying Kyosho's PT-19 and it makes me look like a pro.... I absolutely love it. I've been eyeballing Great Planes for a while and really am leaning at it as my next plane. Are you guys using standard servos. How much runway does it take to take off and slow down?(off grass). Is included Landing gear fine? Planning on OS 91 FS.

Take-off distance is not a problem....if it's moving, it's about ready to fly

Landings on the other hand....she will float, float, float, but when it touches down (on grass), the roll-out can be quite short.

Touch and goes are a thing of beauty.....

The hobby shop suggested that I use the next size servos up in the rudder & elevator, because of the size, everything else is standard. I installed a saito 100 side ways not inverted. due to the glow plug might flame out on low idle.

PT-19 Great planes is a real nice kit and easy to assemble.
I'm happy with it.

Pipercub40,
How about landing gear. Heard that it's really nice with struts. Do you have stock gear and if so does she nose over on taxi or landing? I'm getting that feeling. Finally and sorry for so many ? but do you do any aerobatics with her.

It shouldn't try to nose over much unless your grass is high. It will do some aerobatics, like rolls, loops, hammerheads, and my Dynaflite PT-19 will knife edge some. You could probably get it to do some goofy snaps and such.

I haven't flown it yet, looks really nice on the bench. It should be ready in two weeks. I have the wired gear which came with the kit , looks ok. Like tailskid said, flys like my cub which is really great. Looking forward to flying the PT-19 soon.

What made you decide to get the Dyna Flight PT-19. Did you compare with Great Planes. Also what engine do you have in yours?

I got the Dynaflite at a fly in. The guy cartwheeled it on landing, and it needed the firewall put back in, and the tail repaired and rehinged. The only thing that prompted me to buy it was the price, $150 bucks with Saito 120 and all servos! I can't bash the guy that crashed it though, because the reason it cartwheeled was it caught some VERY tall grass at the end of the runway.

I had it fixed in a few hours, and flying the next weekend. The Saito is the PERFECT engine choice for it. It is overpowered, but it makes it GREAT for towing up gliders, and you can throttle back so it will sound more scale. With the Saito swinging a 16X6 prop at 8000 RPM, it sounds EXACTLY like the real thing. The engine is inverted, and it fits completely inside the cowling.

The only thing that I don't like about this plane is that the kit does not call for wing fairings. The guy that built it, not the guy that crashed it, added them anyway, and it makes it look much more scale. I'm in the middle of adding every scale detail I can. I do one thing, fly it. Do one more, and fly it...

The only thing I'd warn you about is the CG. Balance it right at the spar. I had the CG about 1/2 an inch back for the first flight because thats where he had it, and it flew fine untill it caught the grass. It will work there, sortof, but it took some down elevator on landing to get it to get it to stay level.

What a deal. Thanks for info and the pic. Quality of pic was pretty good. Was even fired up!

Okay it's official I've got the bug. Like I said in previous post I have the Kyosho 60" version and I love it. Course it's got a little two stroke. Can't wait to own first large four stroke bird.
