Default VMAR Edge - IT FLIES!!!!

Well, after lookin at it in the garage for two months,I finally got up enough nerve to take it to the field.I got one of the experts to fly it first.Didn't want to mess up 169 worth of pretty. It really gave him a fit and took a bit to get it kinda trimmed. Landed and reprogrammed the radio.Took some Expo out and a few other things..Took off again and it was a different story. The plane flew well.I took over and even tho the knees were knocking the plane did very well. All in all it's a pretty nice plane and even better to look at..

Pluses...The plane looks great and really gets the attention.Tracks well.Loops and rolls well.Didn't get any braver than that.

Minuses...I guess the temp was in the low seventies and sunny with a slight breeze. After flying it,I set it in the infield and flew my Champion 45L a couple of times.Went back to the Edge and thought all the covering was going to fall on the ground. Huge bubbles everywhere. When I first got it put together I went over it with a heat gun and it looked like it resealed the covering....NOT SO!!! After it was in the sun for bout 30 minutes,it wasn't so nice to look at.I mean major bubbles everywhere. The plane has no balsa in it.It's entirely built of lite ply and I guess the covering just ain't gonna stick to it.I guess I'll leave it home this summer when the temp gets 98.
Due to the heavy wing loading when it lands it's coming in "Katie bar the door".Just hang on and cross your toes.

I had no major problems with it besides the covering BUT,would I buy another..Don't think so.Even at 129,still probably not.It looks good in the garage where it's cooler.

Nothin against Kelsey Spring who works for RichmondRC that sells these VMARS.He's a nice guy and has a job to do. Just thought yall mite like to know how it went....Walt

Rap,
I didn't know anyone else owned one..LOL>
The response was more than comfortable. Like I said before,I let one of the experts fly it first and he had a hard time with it..Way too much elevator. We brought it in and adjusted the D/R on the radio and tried it again. We went to A low rate on the elevator of 45% and it was much better.I took the radio and flew it a little and I guess I could get comfy with it with enough stick time, but it's a hand full.Seems like with the heavy wing loading it's going to have to come in pretty quick to keep from stalling. My guess.

I don't really know if I can give a complete story yet as I have flown it only once.If I can get brave enough I'll take it to the field tomorror and see if I can bring it home in one piece.

The covering thing really got me tho'.The covering is not stuck to the wood anywhere I don't think.A little sun at 72 degrees and watch out. Huge bubbles everywhere.

I started out putting a OS 61 SF in it but after trying to fit the engine in it it would have looked like doo-doo. The reason is that the 61 is a large motor with a big carb and I would have had to really butcher the cowl to get it to fit.The cowling would not have enough support after the cutting and would flap and vibrate.I was a bit leary of putting the OS70 4S in it being that the 70 is the low end of what they recommend.I didn't figure it would get it off the ground, but it did quiet nicely.Plenty of power.I'm running a 12X8 prop.

I don't know.I guess its 169 worth but I think if I did it again I would shop arouind and look at the other arf's.If they were any where close to the price I'd go for it.

Where do you stand with yours??

Later...Walt

Hey,
Been flying the Edge and was kinda negative at first when I talked to you,but after numerous flites,I really like it..It's sensitive but that can be taken care of by cutting the throws.
The covering is still ify but as far as flying it...It's a fun plane..

Would I buy another.....Yep!!
