Fred, I got it from Jerry Cotter in NJ. [email protected] $125.00 shipped.
He was making these about 10 years ago and I messed up and didn't get one. I emailed him & he said he could still sell me one. Great quality.

That's fantastic! A bit above my pay grade, but beautiful.

Picked up a NIB H9 cub. I'm planning to use my O.S. FT-160 twin. Was wondering if anyone has a picture of this plane and engine? Would like to see how much of the cowl needs to be cut away.

Steve,
I fly my cub on a G 26 and have plenty of power even with floats. The original H-9 quarter scale J-3, when it came out, used a G-20. It equates to about a 120 size 4 stroke. I wanted a little more power for the float setup. I also fly my Balsa USA 1/4 scale J-3 with an OS 160 twin and have no issues with power. The 160 equates close to the G-26. The cutouts for the cylinders, exhausts and needle adjustment are not that hard. You will probably have to trim away the dummy jugs on the H-9 cowl. Use the cardboard template method and take your time. I split my cowl like the full scale cub to make it easier to get to the 160 for adjustments etc.

I don't have a pic, but on my J-3 with the ASP (Mag) 160 twin, I just cut out the faux cylinders and kept the eyebrow air scoops in place, opening the scoop portion. I split the cowl horizontally from the middle of the opening for the prop hub, straight to the back. I used the four built in screw mounts at the rear and added small blocks of hardwood just aft of the rear cylinders and right in the middle between the prop hub and the front of the cylinder. I used the small #2 hex s/t hex screws and dabbed some cub yellow paint on them. The cowl stays firmly attached and the cut lines are fairly invisible. Not perfect, but it works for me.

The cowl as it was being worked on

A day at the field

You can see some of the top details

Got my J 3 and started flying it in 2009 , about 200 flights that year . After that flew it often till 2017 , probably another 400 to 500 flights . On one flight wind changed 180 degree's while doing touch and go's ( thousands done ) lost control and damaged undercarriage and fuselage . Took about 7 months for the conversion to a NE 1 with much more detail . I filled in around the dummy motor ( warts ) and did some engine detail . Still not completely finished with the motor ( dummy exhaust pipes ) . It has flown and has @ 40 flight on it now .

Default OS 40cc 4stroke

Hi. Anyone tried out the OS 40cc 4stroke gas engine in the 1/4 cub? How does it preform?

Mines about 14 years old. Floats still attached. Covering is a little wrinkled in some areas, but so is mine. Flies GREAT on a 20cc swinging a 20x6 wood prop. Very realistic.
