raptor8,

Is that the largest diameter prop you can use on that engine? I have an 18x4 Wide APC on my Saito 150 and I would think you could go larger with a little less pitch which as you know will even give it more pulling power.

Gibbs
Gibbs, where did you get an APC 18x4W prop from?? Surely you didn't get it from Towers....I just couldn't find it. Could you provide a link to where you bought it? Very interested in having one. Thanks.

outacontrol41,

I'm sorry after checking what you asked, I realized it is a 17x4W I got from Hobby Town. My other one is a 18x6W. I called APC and they don't even make an 18x4W. Didn't mean to get you confused. The 17x4W I'm using now works very well. The 18x6W works good also. It's almost a toss up really. Both of those props you can get through Tower.

Guy'a,

I am curious as to what brand spinner your using and what size. I tried two Tru Turns and had the prop slip both times and they wrecked my expensive APC props. So what spinner's are you using?

Finally,

I maidened my Twist 150 last evening and I loved it. I couldn't believe that it would hover at less than 1/4 throttle with the Saito 1.50 and a 17x6 APC prop combination. I think I'll stay with this combo since it took off quickly and I could fly around at 1/8 throttle all day long. Well maybe 20 minutes, it still sucks the fuel being new with a very rich setting. I had to bring it home to clean it because the Windex just didn't cut all the oil residue. I ended up using hot soapy water. I rinsed her down and then finished it up with Windex. I had one slight mishap when carry the plane from the table to the flight line. There is one cross member that isn't part of the bottom plywood and it popped loose. It probably wasn't glued very good. Has anyone else had this happen to there's? I am going to have to cut out the utracote from one solid end of the lightning holes on each side of the bulkhead and fix it, then I'll recover it with white like I did on the bottom of each wingtip. It sure makes the plane easier to tell if it's rightside up or not. I think I might beef this area up slightly so when I carry it I'll know it's good and solid. Oh yeah I had a pilot in the cockpit but during some snap rolls he decided to leave his seat. I use pin-stripping to hold my canopies on so all I did was take it off and remove him for good. Can't wait for another nice day so I can fly it again.

No I haven't had that problem with my 150 but I haven't flown that plane to much. Got any pics of it? You should move to the southwest desert area, everyday is a good day for flying here, year around except when it's to hot.

Got any Prime Quarter resturants up there in Janesville?

snacker,

I didn't get a video or any pictures this time because I was alone at the field. Tomorrow there will be a couple of my flying buddies out there so I hope to have one of them either take pictures or maybe even make a video. I removed the covering from the affected area I mentioned in my last post today and found that the cross support wasn't even glued on one side. I glued it real good on both sides and then put a piece of 1/8" plywood across the fuselage for added strength. Now it is very sturdy. I would suggest that everyone with the 150 check this out and add a piece of plywood like I did. It is a place that is weak and will break just from the pure weight of the plane when you pick it up to carry it from the table to the flight line. I will post pictures of my repair as soon as I can get back on my own computer. I'm having to use my wife's right now while I try to remove a high-jacker from mine. Boy that makes me mad.[:@] It should be later today. I will post a video or picture of tomorrows flights as soon as I get back from the field.

Wow, what did you do? Cut off the covering and recover with white and add some white to the wings? I haven't noticed any problems in that area of my 150. Mine has only seen about a half a dozen flights with my instructor present. I don't feel confident flying the150 myself until I get some more hours in with my trainer. I sure like the way it sounds with the Saito!

snacker,

I did the repairs and I had to cut out the covering to get to the area to be repaired. I recovered that small section of the rear of the fuselage white for the same reason as the stripes on the wing. It is hard to see when it starts to get late in the evening and now with the white it is very visable. A solid color is never good for the bottom of a plane. Now I can see if its coming towards me or away from a great distance.

Guy's,

Sorry for the short reply. I barely got the e-mail address up before my computer crashed again. I use Callie all the time for my custom graphics. All you need to do is take a picture of what you want or use one already in picture form and e-mail it to her letting her know the size and quanity. She will have a quote e-mailed back to you within 24 hours. She has one employee and I think she is part time. Callie is very nice and will go out of her way to help your every need. Give her a chance and you won't be sorry. I'm back to building my 1/8 scale Corsair on windy and rainy days so I won't be on here as much. I'll check in once a day to see how my thread is doing. You guys have been great and I hope we will have new comers on here soon. I would like to hear everybodies experiences with the 150. I'm tired of reading about the 40 and 60. There great planes but that should be a seperate thread. Thats why I started this one. I hope to be back up in the air real soon. I sure love my 150.

Walt,

It seems that Hanger 9 wanted everybody to love this plane and thats why they call it a 150. It is so light and with their recommendations everyone is putting 150's, 160,s and 180's on them. They are way overpowered but I love it that way. They could of easily called them a 100 or a 125 in my opinion. Congratulations on you sucessful Maiden and I am waiting for the pictures.

Hope to see them soon,

Gibbs

Picked my Twist 150 up this afternoon. Glad to see someone tried OS160FX. I have this and a OS120 Surpass11 pumped rated at 2.1hp by OS. Now that I have the plane and see how light it is,I thinking the pumped OS 4stroke will be enough and I can use the wheel pants(plane much prettier tha HH pics). I do want 3D power though, but hover at half throttle should leave enough for strong pull out with OS pumped?? Yes/No?? I'm using JR126MG servos. Hope to finish over week-end. THANKS for any build info,RACJ

RACJ,

The Saito 150 is rated at 2.5 BHP and it hovers at less than 1/4 throttle. With the little difference in the HP I think you will almost get the same pullout as mine. I can pull out of hover like a rocket and climb until I can't see it with full power. I'm not sure how the Saito and OS compare in weight but it can't be that much. It will do fine in the Twist 150. I am using Futaba High Torque 3305 MG servos in mine. I like them. I am running a 17x6 APC prop on it now. I also like the 18x6W APC. I'm just using the shorter prop for added ground clearence.

Thanks NCIS,the OS160 is about 9 oz heavier with muffler. Hoping maybe mounting as far back as possible and shifting battery so not to add nuch weight. This plane is the one Pettit reviewed for RC Report mag and I bought it with the 126MG servos already in. He reviewed with Evo gas 26 which is about same as OS160 and I don't see where any weight was added for balance. I also made trade offer today on RCU for Saito so I;ll wait couple days to see how that goes.May go with OS160 anyway after I see Walt and Saige pictures and how their install of this engine went. Thanks,RACJ

RACJ,

You don't have to wait, just look back on page 4 of this thread and there are already nice pictures of the G-26 set-up. I like keeping the cheeks on the plane for looks. You will see what I mean when you look at the pictures. It looks good but the Saito or OS will give us more than enough power. We are not firing Estes Rockets anyway are we.

Sorry about confusion,I meant pics and install on the OS160 by Walt and Saige. Horizon website actually has no recommends for a 2stroke.,only gas and 4strokes. I want the cheeks and wheel pants in tact as I think its a great looking plane. The 160 2st is wider(cheeks cut ??) than Saito and prop clearance close. How much larger wheels can be used and keep the pants??
