Anyone want to throw their 2cents in?
I’ve more or less given up trying to find a decent 1/7 scale (approx 65” wing span) Corsair ARTF. The Hangar9 one looked ok but it wasn’t reviewed that well on this site, people talked about wings folding in flight, flimsy retracts etc and I don’t particularly like the exposed rudder and elevator servos. Anyhow, I’ve decided to research another couple of options for sport flying – the SIG Mayhem 3D 72” and the World Models Extra 330L 65”. Both are ARTF, will take around the same engine (0.61-0.91cu in) and channels and both are ex model shops in NZ. Both have been reviewed positively on this site with the Mayhem getting a unanimous thumbs up on build quality and flight characteristics. The Mayhem is about 40% more expensive that the Extra in NZ.
Ignoring the price difference, I’d probably go for the Extra on looks but that obviously shouldn’t be all that is taken into account. Does anyone have any other views on which kit would be best value for money? Having read a bunch of reviews I sort of get the impression that ARTF’s out of China aren’t all they are cracked up to be, that is assuming that the SIG stuff is made in USA.

I haven't flown either plane but I can tell you that both are made in China even though Sig is headquartered in the US. That shouldn't scare anybody at all. It's not he location of the factory but the quality of the company behind the product.
Everything I have ever heard about the Mayhem has been positive. It looks to be a 3D/fun fly type airplane. You'll also get good instructions, written in actual English that makes sense.
World Models is also a good company. My last personal experience with them wasn't great though. A bought a Skyraider Mach-2 that was a warped, mis-aligned piece of garbage. That was just luck of the draw though. Many others are happy with them and have excellent flying airplanes. The instructions are pretty poor though and I have never really been impressed with their covering.
One thing that I found interesting is that the Sig SE ARF that I had came with a fuel tank that had an instruction sheet that said "The World Models". It looked just like their tank too. Either World Models built the plane (I believe they do building for other OEM's) or supplied parts. Either way, it was a great airplane and I flew it until it literally fell apart.

Thanks Chuck
I might throw the China Model Products Extra 300S into the mix as well. My comment about products out of China was a bit generalist I admit, I have had expereince of importing automotive parts from China and I know that you get what you pay for and that some very well known automotive brands contract factories in Asia to make their products, just like model distributors. I'll keep researching but sooner or later I'm going to have to make a decision.

This idea may not be received well, I don't own it but two friends do. Giant Scale Planes or AK Models puts out around a 70 inch Corsair. if put together well as these two were, are nice flyers and fit a 1.08 size engine very well. Like i said. I have seen some nice arfs thrown together by fools and you have flying junk and questionable arfs assembled by somebody with a clue and turn out to be nice planes
