MAIDEN FLIGHT TOP FLITE B-25.

I just got back minutes ago. 10 members from our club showed up to see this maiden. Well it was a succes, plain & simple success. The plane has no unexpected behavior and tamed wind in an exceptional manner. It is extremely stable and once you establish an attitude, it keep it. The first flight was the trimming. Took off clean no flaps, you need speed to lift and maintain heading "gears up" as soon as airborne to remove drag until safe altituded then remove the gyro assist then turn and trim and enjoy what you see. The approach were made 1/2 flap and airspeed help the plane maintain in a stable attitude. Final approach was made full flaps and landed l soft like a cat. Follow Top Flite recommendation for the flaps. 1/2 inch & 1 inch full.

The second flight was deceiving due to the lever that craked because of the @#$#@#@% X9303 radio I'm using. For some reason it moves all the servos back & forth like a start reset, the retract servo does the same and the plane fell on the table and craked the lever...well I flew the plane gears down and behaved again extremely well. after landing I noticed I lost the Turret and the turret guns, due to my poor installation with the snaps, I hope they will be available soon because without it it looks like it is missing character..

The Saito 82"s were great but no power to spare. The CG was made "Gears up" and still behaved a little tail heavy, but only little trim to correct it.

The gyro on the rudder is a must, may you no beleive in its characteristics in flight but at least to maintain the aircraft on a straight course on take off

This plane is the best I've flown so far. Twins are rare and they get most attention. Some comments were made as this is "the plane of the club" in a combination of looks, sound, attractiveness and excitement. It feels good to own it!

I cannot fly it tomorow due to the broken lever, but MikeRC sent me some in the mail this week and they should be here next week. Today the temperature was -4C ( +/- 28F) in Montreal clear sky. hope it is the same next week! Too bad for the turret. ( I walked 2.5 hrs trying to find it around my whole circuit) never saw it fall.

Looking forward to fly it again!

Picture of the plane before its Maiden...to bad we had camera problems for the flight, battery was dead. I had checked the camera last night and left it on!!! but we have a video and will soon be on youtube.

Dumb question for anyone.....help.

The B25 requires an 8 channel receiver right? Most of the 8 channel recievers have the 8th channel as a battery "slot" also. If you use all 8 "slots" for servos, how do you power it? Where would the battery hook up? I hope I won't have to buy another receiver.

KenVC,
When you are in a situation like that you need to use a Y-harness to connect the battery. Simply plug the Y-harness into the battery/channel 8 slot (actually, you can plug a battery into any slot on the reciever0, and then plug the battery into one side of the Y-harness and the servo into the other side of the Y-harness. This will provide power to the radio as well as let the servo operate.

Thanks for the help Ken. I haven't built an airplane requiring this many channels before.

no a 7 is standard y your ailerons and motors. Woks for e power. Im going to use the scale door sdequence. when the gear is domn the rear doors are closed. no levers to worry about. ill use a jomar sequencer and micro servos on the doors. It works great on the 310. Took me 2 days to do the top turret and all the guns. I had to use the kit rear guns as thes screw inand hold the assy in place. very nice ship. 6 pounds so far batt and rx in rudder and elev servos in. nacelles bolted on.

Normand,

congratulations!!!!

I'm very glad for you.

I'll write more praise later, but I have to go. But wait, I broke one of my levers too--on my second flight when I had to land with the gear up and the doors closed. I fixed the lever by laminating on a piece of 1/64" plywood. It worked fine. Until you get your new levers, maybe you could fix the old same as I.

Timothy,

Where did you get a rumor about a Lancaster??? You know the AVRO Lancaster is the Bomber I love. I do not know about you but a 1/9th Lancaster woul be a sure Hit!!! and Different.; Everyone is in the B17 business, another one would only populate the market. In my opinion if TF would build an AVRO Lancaster bomber the thing would sell like hotcakes! They are the only ones with a serious scale ARF, and yes I agree this is the best ARF. I vote for na AVRO LANCASTER, imagine a quad ARF!!! I would not be surprized.

Well done Norm. Welcome to my experience with snaps! Trust me, the magnets work WAY better....

Think I'll laminate some carbon sheet onto those levers - have plenty lying around.

Snaps, Magnets, Levers

Camdyson,

Well you are right about the snaps, thought I was going to do good. I ordered 1/4 inch & 3/8 inch N50 magnets 1/16th thick. those will replace my snaps. The ADF antenna is held there and never moved. About the Levers, they are tough enough made out of wood. My problem was that the X9303 JR radio 2.4G whenever you switch on the radio on, it brings the servos to their "Normal" 100% value. You got to be careful when you set the gear servo so its normal 100% value is set when the retracts are down. I had to switch around my up & down tube for the servo to remain @ 100% value. You then "bind" with the gears down. Solved the problem that way. My plane fell on the table due to that and a door resisted and broke the lever.

About the Lancaster, I got excited with made up stuff...but 1/8 size would be too big. got to be 1/9th or 1 /10 and still would be 11-12.5 feet wing span

Box size,

SGOEN,

You will get "pulled over" with that box! exceeding size limits, the thing is too big to fit in a car, will block your view and will not fit.

no i heard in at the LHS either that or a p-38. Oh they are bashing this arf on rcscale builder saying the top of the fuse is the wrong shape . I checked it out and for a J model we are right on. The early b and c models had oval and rounder sections. The J was as the model shows

Tim (e-power tim)

You are really impressive with your detailing...I'll limit myself to the bomb bay. I lost my turret in flight with the guns. What do you suggest? the TF are not available until the end of nov od december. Your turret details are modified. Do you think I can get a wingspan turret that is the same or similar? and functional???.

Below are some pictures of the B-25 sitting there in the ceiling of my garage waiting for a next flight next to its "Guinee Pig", the Dual Ace (Twin OS55...it rocks 11.5 lbs)
