Just started in RC. My first plane is a Hobbico Superstar trainer. Once I become more experienced I would like to promote myself to a " low/midwing or bipe trainer" Does any one have any suggestions? [What a silly question]

Hi,
My second airplane was a .40 size Great Plains STIK. It has the capability for stunts yet is a gentle airplane to land. Also, easy to fix when damaged,(been there done that!) I recently acquired a Mid-Star 40 which is also a good flier. Be advised, for your first few flights, stay 2 or 3 mistakes high. Due to symetrical wings on both birds they go where you point them and don't self correct like your trainer. You gotta fly them!
Good Luck and Have fun.
Mike

The Sig 4 Star is nice... kits in 40/60/120 size and a new ARF in 60 size...
The Tigers are good too...
The GP U-Can-Do-3D would make a great 2nd plane as well... including getting more aerobatic with you as you progress...
It's a tail dragger but that's really not as difficult as some might lead you to believe...
The wing loading is so low that it'ss float slower than your trainer and with the rates set low to moderate will act perhaps SWEETER than your trainer...
Add high rates and hover, knife edge, snap roll, etc...

I went with a Super Kraft Cap 232 Sport model for my second plane. Since it has a straight sport wing instead of the tapered scale Cap wing, it was as gentle as a baby on low rates. Heck it even landed easier than my Hobbico Avistar. On high rates it would snap and hover with the best of them. I really loved that plane, it was the best flying plane I ever flew, until that danged tree jumped out in front of it. Since it is a 60 sized plane, it seemed easier to fly than a 40 size trainer. I used a Saito 100 to pull it around, I hear that a YS 91 works as well. The quality of the plane was outstanding, and the service from Super Kraft was spectacular as well. I had a cracked cowl from shipping, called up super kraft, sent them a digital picture of the crack, had a new cowl delivered to my door in 3 days. great company, well built plane, I would highly recommend their prodeucts.

I gotta' agree, The Ultra-Sticks (any size) make great 2nd planes. They're very forgiving yet very capable. If I'm not flying my 25% gas Edge, I'm wringing out my .40 Utra Stick (OS .46 FX).

Hi jj miller1,
My son and I had the exact same trainer as you. We really liked ours and kept them both in great condition. We sold them both for 200.00 each at a swap meet. We both went with Sticks for our second planes. In our case, we went with the Hanger 9, 40 sized Ultrasticks with OS 46FX engines. We had a pair of them just like our trainers. We set them up using the quad set up so we could learn about flaps and some of the fun stuff that the trainers just couldn't do. The first thing I noticed was how smooth the OS 46 FX was over the 40 engine in the trainer. We have only been in the hobby for three years so we aren't experts, but have to say that we enjoyed these airplanes. From what I have learned, any of the sticks have proven to be a very nice second airplane choice. Good luck and have fun. IMHO
