Default RE: VMAR -vs- AEROWORKS

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Pacific Aeromodel Edge which will hopefully arrive in perfect condition tomorrow....

I will post pics and thoughts as I unpack and assemble the plane. I am hoping to have it all together by next weekend as I am taking a trip down to Missouri and would like to take it with me.

I expect the Aeroworks Edge to arrive the 1st week of November sometime and will again post pics and thoughts as I unpack and assemble the plane.

I intend to fit both planes identically so that I am comparing apples to apples when I fly them. They will both receive brand new OS 46FX engines probably with 12 x 4 props (of course you can'f forget the free aluminum spinners that come with the engines....he he), standard HiTech HS-325 ball bearing servos, a GWS 8 channel receiver, NiCad 4.8v receiver packs and will be programmed into my Futaba 9C radio.

I will run both engines for at least 1/2 gallon of fuel on the test bench prior to installing them on the planes which should ensure they are properly broken in and adjusted correctly for the maiden flights.........

It should be interesting since the AW advertises that their plane comes in at 4.5 - 5lbs with 609sq inches of wing area which works out to be only 18.9 oz per sq ft. wing loading. The Pacific advertises that it will come in at 6lbs with 3" more wing span and 620 sq in of wing area or a wing loading of 22.3 oz. sq ft.

Another thing that is interesting is that AW wing span is 3" shorter, but the fuse is slightly longer at 53" vs. Pacifics 52.5. The wingspan to fuse length ratio is actually quite different with AW's wing being only 5% longer than the fuse (56" wing/53" fuse) and Pacifics wing is 12% longer than the fuse (59" wing/52.5" fuse)........

You know, now that I have pointed this out does anyone have any idea what that might mean to their handling characteristics?

Excellent! So now we'll get an honest side-by-side comparison, without the usual "The box was very colorful and everything was well-packed" drivel. Gawd, I want to barf every time I read that...[:'(]
