Looking for a edge and just wondering if anyone has any input on wether to go with the vmar edge 540 or an aeroworks edge 540 60-90 size and any recommended engines. Thanks

get a yellow aircraft edge 540t. It is about one of the best planes I have ever owned. an o.s. .91 fx will pull this plane out of sight. It came in at about 7# 3oz. It also flies like it is on rails. It is alot lighter than the aeroworks edges that I have seen. and superb quality.and in between the v-mar and the aeroworks as far as price goes. trust me if you get the yellow aircraft edge you will not be dissapointed.

Not trying to bash or anything BUT there is no comparison between an Aeroworks and a Vmar. AeroWork builds a far more superior plane. I have owned a VMAR and wasn't pleased at all. I have a SeaGull edge and like it very much. and for the money its hard to beat.
Just my 2 cents

Lets compare Yugo with Porsche while we are at it! LOL
These two companies are in different leagues at present. You cannot compare the VMAR with Aeroworks. It is like comparing apples with ... piles of poo!
Pay whatever difference the Aeroworks costs, it is definitely worth it.

VMAR and Aeroworks shouldn't even be used in the same sentence. Aeroworks makes model planes, I'm not sure what to call VMAR, but in all fairness I have seen some fly........sort of

We need to be fair to these companies in this comparison. VMAR is not in the same league as Aeroworks, but they are much, cheaper. I have had both and the Aeroworks is considerably better. But, I believe VMAR is intended for modelers on a much tighter budget. I had their Cap and it was not nearly as bad as other VMAR planes I have read about here on RCU. It flew well and held up well. In this case you do really get what you pay for. My experience with VMAR is not as bad as some of you have had.
If I had to buy one I would get the Yellow, that thing looks awesome!!

Hideho and good morning,
VMAR has NO equal....they are the bottom of the line for ARF's.
As I sit here, I cannot think of another ARF company that makes an overall worse product.
SOmeone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Just my opinion, use it if you like.

OK Mike, you asked for it.
While they are no worse, the Seagull line is equally entitled to be described as crap.
So you buy a Yellow or Aeroworks Edge, say it costs $600, and the Vmar costs $200. That makes the Yellow or AW $600 plane worth $800 more than the Vmar, since you have to consider the $200 wasted for the Vmar as a lesson, and the cost of the lesson has to be added to the airplane you should have gotten to start with.
So if you are contemplating the purchase of Vmar or Seagull products, take a fifthe of your favorite inebriating potation and go to bed.Consider your hangover. No matter how bad, it will be less headache than you would have experienced otherwise.
Seen too many of them. Kindest word I've heard is "Well, it does fly." But none I've seen have flown long.
Bill.

Weeeell doggy,
Here's the NEW deal with Seagull....your right, once upon a time Seagulls were as you stated.....AAAHHH yes, but here's the rub...Seagull is now in bed with Horizon Hobbies, and the planes are covered with Ultra Coat!
Have you seen the Seagull Models Razzle in person?
Didn't think so.
Incredibly light, excellent fiberglass work, and excellent quality.
We do have an issue w/ a horiz stab, but the fix is in work.
At least Seagull has improved....no so w/ VMAR.

Mike:
Then the new Seagulls must also be from a different factory.
In the past, side by side comparison of Vmar and Seagull showed that one was the same as the other, except for the labels. Both had the same factory phone number, also. And the international code was for Viet Nam.
More than this I do not know.
Bill.
PS: The two compared wwere the Pilatus PC-2 (?) and the Texan II. The Texan II was the Vmar. wr.

Seagull obviously contracted the Razzle by another manafacture.....I have a RV-4 VMAR and their is no way the Razzle and RV are made by the same company....from what I can see.

FYI, a bunch of guys bought a stack of these VMAR edges, purely to see just how long it would take to break them...
These guys pushed them to the limits of aircraft durability. They didn't break.
However they didn't do anything well except stay together. It's a bit like buying a duraplane to fly unlimited IMAC, totally NOT the plane for the job.
I'd never buy VMAR again unless I wanted something I could use as a baseball bat, and they're about as heavy.

I owned a Edge 540 by VMAR. Description>>> Great to look at on the ground! Thats it>>> Heavy flying BRICK>>> Small alerons... heavy wing load! I had one for a short time... Should have invested more in better quality. Flys straight very well... other then that just not up to par. Spend a little extra... I'm sorry I went the cheaper road.

ok I have to ask the next question even though I started a thread much the same as this one.....
How about the Aeroworks Edge 40 size and the Pacific Aeromodel Edge 40 size? sorry if anyone is offended by me asking about another plane other than Vmar but I got no responses to my thread and there seems to be a fair amount of knowledge about the different edges in this thread......
By the way, ended up ordering them both because I couldnt decide...... So I guess I will find out in the end......I was just hoping for a little insight in to what was about to hit my mailbox. I know the reputation of AW but the Pacific has several features that I thought were important as well.....like plug in wings, pull pull rudder
Any input?

Thanks, but the UltraSport is a Super Kaos with a turtle deck and re-shaped tail feathers.
Got one Kaos hanging up, and another waiting to be built.
I want a semi-scaler aerobat. The Kaos/UltraSport models are wonderfully smooth flyers, but don't do the high-alpha stuff so hot. Besides, I have a Kougar next in line on the board, which flies similarly to the above.

The Ultra Sport+ is very good at 3D stuff like harriers, hovering waterfalls etc. I am not talking about the older Ultra Sport.
Nice to know that you are going to be getting both planes though, and will be able to make direct comparisons. I have been looking at the bigger Pacific Edge, and will be very interested to hear your opinions if you would be so kind as to post them!
