Default H9 Edge 540

OK, all you H9 Edge 540 owners. Think I might pick one up here shortly just have few questions:

I have a new Satio 1.80 with 16x8 APC prop. Is this enough to hover, torque roll, and etc.?

How many of you use the supplied elevator pushrod? I haven't had a good experience with the "Y" types. Flutter city in a mild dive

Does it have the air foiled tail feathers?

Thanks!
Chris

I'll comment on the elevator....

I didn't use the "Y" in mine, but went with two elevator servos each having carbon fibre push rods to 4/40 ends.

I had to widen the holes through the fuse to fit the rods, but this works well. My plane turned out to be 12lbs 2oz with a Saito 180 on it. Because I had a bit of trouble with the Saito, I now have a YS 140 on it.

Cheers!

I got a friend with one of these hanger 9 edge 540. He used dual elevator servos with carbon fibre pushrods. It also has an OS160FX engine. It will hover with a carbon fibre 18x8 prop and pull out to vertical very easily. The altitude here is 6200ft. so I would say the os 160 has plenty of power for this plane. Just my 2cents. Good luck with yours

I have a H9 Edge with a Saito 180 with a 17 x 6 APC prop. On Heli 30% fuel, you couldn't ask for more power. I also fly a H9 Cap 232 with a Moki 180 and the Edge has just as much power and really has the low torque needed for the 3D stuff. I have never used anything else but the 30% fuel so how it would be on 10-15% fuel I don't know. With the 30% heli fuel (which is Horizon's suggested fuel for this engine), the engine idles perfectly and transitions great. Looks and sounds great too!

Default H9 Edge 540 elevator

Here is what I did for the elevator. I used a pull pull set up using a Nelson bellcrank. I also used one for the rudder.

I used to have one of those airplanes with a Saito 1.80. I still have the Saito 1.80 on another airplane but that's a whole different story. I used an APC 18-6W prop. The W stands for wide blade and gives extra thrust. You will most likely have to trim the spinner to fit this prop. Excellent power for hovering, etc. on 30% heli fuel. 15% fuel with this prop is still a good combination although you can expect to lose about 400 rpm. A 16-8 will give you more speed but less thrust for hovering manuevers. An APC is one of the most efficient props in this size and the difference between it and a Zinger is very noticeable. The difference between an 18-6W and a 16-8 is also very noticeable on the vertical stuff even though they tach out about the same. I also used the Y pushrods and although I didn't experience any flight problems with them, I didn't like them.

I am going with a BME 50 on the nose of mine. I don't have any servos installed yet but I cut the holes for them. I also replaced the stock fire wall. Check it out here.
