Seagull Yak 54 60 size
while usually I like building my planes, just a fun past time, I find myself with a arf every now and again. well over the weekend I won a yak 54 from seagull models. this one has me in a conundrum, on the box it states .72 to .82 fours stroke but on the web site it says .91 to .100. my question is I have a saito 72 will it be enough power to fly this plane or do I need a bigger one? the conflict between the web site and the box stated power ratings are discerning. I definitely want to fly this plane. I do want to commend seagull models from what I saw it looked beautiful inside the fuselage. I am impressed with the build quality. I also like the way they designed the wing to accept removable wings on an aluminium tube and that they included a fibreglass cowling, abs cowls never hold up. I am excited to see how this turns out.

Do you have the 90 size yak 54? Blue and yellow in color? If so I would not fly it with a 72 size Saito. It will be way underpower. I have that plane with a !00 Saito and it could use more power. I hope that helps.

I'm considering this plane for a homeless Saito .91 on my bench. What are your impressions of the plane? The Horizon website indicates that it comes with Carbon Fiber hardware. Is this so? Also, since there seems to be absolutely no info on this plane in the forums, would you mind posting some pics to give us an idea of build quality?
Thanks a bunch and good luck with your project!

Only the aileron rods are carbon fiber. The interesting thing is other rods (elevator & rudder) are 2 mm pushrods. They seem a little weak for 3D.

probably could change that by putting servos in the tail or even making your own control rods. just because they come with that stuff doesnt mean you have to use them.

What CofG point did you use?. I am using 6.5-7.5cm as stated in the manual and having to put a shed load of weight up front, i am sure the CofG point is wrong. Any pointers would be appreciated

RE: Seagull Yak 54 60 size
I am currently putting one of these together. Only lack contol linkages and connecting servos. I'm also concerned about the CG. Seems to far forward. I have emailed Horizon Hobby to see if they have any info on this. My Great Planes Electric Yak 54's CG is 3 1/8" with a 41" wingspan. So, 2 1/2 to 3" seems way too far forward for this size and wing area. If I hear anything I will post.

RE: Seagull Yak 54 60 size
Can anyone PLEASE HELP???? I bought a Yak 54 60 size airplane already built. It has a supertige .61 engine on it. The problem I am having is, when I balance it from the point that the factory says to, in my case between the 6.5 cm and 7.5 cm point when I fly the plane and trim it out, the elevator is trimmed in the up position about a 1/4 of an inch, that is the only way I can get the plane to fly in a level position.
HELP!!!!

RE: Seagull Yak 54 60 size
a couple of us started a thread over here http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_69...page_11/tm.htm as an official thread about this plane. I unfortunately haven't flown mine yet either however i have read that the manual was wrong about the CG point. also did you balance on the wing tips or the root. the manual states tips which is where you are suppose to balance the plane at.

RE: Seagull Yak 54 60 size
I have balanced mine using the measurements at the wing tips like the manual said to do.
By the way thanks for the reply, and do you know how to start a new thread or post?
THANKS !!!!!
