Nitro Planes Extra 260 Video
#1
I want to be careful here not be interpreted as a vile spammer. I for the past two years have avoided purchacing anything from Nitro Planes due to the negative feedback on these forums for the ARF quality and Customer Service. As far as customer service is concerned I had no problems but I concider myself pretty low maintenance in that department. I did have one question for them that I feilded that here on RCU via PM to Nitrostaff1 and he replied in a timely manner by my standards. I purposefully chose to purchace one of there low end "evergreen" or plain generic ARFs as opposed to the more popular CMP ARFs just to see what the complaining was about. I found a pretty well built and covered airplane. The instruction manual was sparse on some details right off at the beginning so I pulled my "man card" and said I don't need no stink'n directions! Anyone with a few ARF builds under their belt can put one of these together. Not to tough. So, How do they fly? Heres a link to a video of my [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BllgtC4e0vw]NP Extra 260[/link] Bare in mind I am a novice pilot and a beginner at anything resembling 3D.

Really nice video, good flying and good camera work. Could have done without the music, though. I would have liked to hear more "airplane" sounds. [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Good flying; novice... if you say so. Looks like it is a fun one to fly and you seemed to handle it well
I'm not one for the music either, but I like what you had on the video.
Bottom line: will you recommend a Nitro Plane to a friend?

I have 4 Nitro plane and all fly great. You get much more of a plane than what you pay. The only thing I hate about their AFT is the hardware and lot of the directions sucks. I replace all the hardware in each of the AFT i purchase from NP

Everyone has their preference on hardware. When I buy an ARF I expect a hardware change. Nice video. I liked the music. Nothing like some Steppenwolf to bring back some memories. I could still hear the plane in the background. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I would recomend NP to a freind. Based on their experience or availability of help on the build. I'll keep that in mind about the music in the future.

the video is yours, done for you. If you like the music, use it.
Of course, there are those who live their lives with a musical accompanyment. There are also those who do not, and some who think the sound of an engine is music in and of itself.
So the suggestion is, if you want to show off the airplane, or your flying skills, skip the music. If you just want to entertain yourself, or others, add the score.

Sure, if the video is for your own amusement film it upside down and convert it to sepia tones if you want. But you posted it for the rest of us so that we could see how the airplane flies. For that purpose, the music is counterproductive.

I've put together two NP Pole Cats, three NP Yak 54s, and am currantly putting together a NP 260. The 260 looks to be the best built of the bunch. Everything is glued tight. I will go over all accessable joints with ca anyway. The hardware suprisingly looks useable. Will however use dubro controll on the rudder pull-pull. All looks good except the ailerons have some twist in them towards the tips. Looks like washout. Dont think it is designed to be though. May try to streighten with counterbend and heat on covering. I am going to outfit it identical to my Yak so I can do some comparison flying. The manual I got is for the redbull version. Similar enough to use but I wonder about the cg. Anyone know where the 260 is saposed to ballance?

Tried to fly my NP 260 yesterday. Lucky for me it wouldnt run. I say lucky caus when I took the cowel off to investigate the plumbing I found the firewall was not glued properly, and was comeing off. I have reglued it and installed 3/4x 1/16 aluminum angle stock to reenforce. Corrected regulator problem with engine (YS 63) and will fly this week.

Flew NP 260 today. Lots of wind so unable to do a real good job of trimming. Doesnt seem to fly much different than my YAK. Requires more rudder to do same manovers. Rolling manovers are much smoother. Could just be a differance in the throws, and expo settings. Will be fun to compare in a calmer situation.

Hello Everyone,
I purchased the blue one from nitroplanes. I just get it by next week. I have a OS .46FX that I am planning on installing with a Bisson Pitts Mufler. Any suggestions?
I don't plan to do 3D since I am a beginner. This is my second pane after the trainer. I also fly helis so I know that helps. Any recommendations with props (size and brands)?
What is the CG for sport flying?
Thanks!

Hey Weru,
I just maidend my Extra this weekend. It's a sweet little plane.
I'd say for a .46 size engine and sport flying you'd be pretty good with a 12x4, 11x5, or maybe even a 11x6. The 12x4 would be a bit better for 3d, but on this model will also work well for sport flying as well. the 11x5-6 will give you a bit more straight line speed. My preference on porps has always been APC, FWIW.
For CG, the book says to start at 4 inches behind the leading edge. Since this is your second plane and you want to do sport flying, I'd recommend starting at 3 inches behind the leading edge and go from there.

Guess what UPS dropped off ... YEEHHAAA!!! It's finally here!
I just started with the wing hinges.
The tank is 240 cc. Is that enough? It looks smaller than what I have on my trainer, lol
These are he recommended prop sizes for the .46FX:
Sport:
10.5x6, 11x6~8, 12x6~7
Aerobatic: (tuned silencer used)
11x8~10, 12x7~9
Do you think the 12x4 would be ok? or which one would be better in my case? Is .46 too small for simple (slow and easy) flying?

I've been flying my NP 260- the blue one - since last summer. OS 46 and she really does a good job. The thing is so light I would hate to think of anything larger under the cowl. Well, maybe the OS 55....
I did have trouble with my muffler always coming loose. (Slimline pitts) and found out that it wasn't tightening up due to it hitting on the motor mount. When it melted a little channel in the mount, it tightened up nicely. It's an awesome plane and keeping the motor compartment light it walks in for landings. It's one of those planes that I like to fly when it is "too windy."

For the money this line of .40 size planes rocks. I had one of their Edges and have the Red Bull one in the box in the shop. They take no time to get ready to fly.
