you found the big problem with this plane
ORIGINAL: TonyBuilder
Has anyone had any problems with the stabilizer, or tail section? I fond it to be very flimsy and I braced it up with some struts. There was a buzzing sound on fly by’s, not sure if it is flutter or harmonics from the pushrods, but after further inspection many at the field though that the stabilizer was flexing too much. I will see how the struts work, and if that eliminates the buzzing sound. If that does not work then I will add temporary weight to the elevator, and then the ailerons to see if it is flutter.

RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
Ok, so after flying my plane all afternoon Monday, I found it to have plenty of power with the OS 61 for the plane that it is. I will keep this engine for this plane and only work on making it a stronger plane. I installed the tail struts, and I will test it out on Thursday after work. The tail is so much stronger now, when I move the stabilizer the whole plane moves with it, before the stabilizer moved and flexed and the plane stayed fixed. I am no expert at this so hopefully this will not make the plane worse. If the buzzing continues then I will work on the elevator and then the ailerons if need be. I will say I am disappointed in the quality of this plane from hanger 9. I have seen a few other planes in the same price range that look a lot stronger in construction, like the 60 sized Great plane little toni. I will work with this plane, and hopefully I can get it stable and eliminate the buzzing.
I will say it flies very nice (for a beginner) smooth, forgiving and fun, we will have to see if the expiration date has any longevity to it.

Comparing the HP ratings of the recommended engines seems to indicate that if a 75 2S is ok then a 120 4S should also be ok or more closely comparable to the 75 2S as compard to the 90 4S. I do recognize that the 120 4S will add some additional weight. I have the Pulse XT 40 size and have been flying it with an OS 46 AX which was a very good choice. My 40 Pulse is an excellent quality product and flies very similar to the GP Super Sportster. The 60 Pulse may just be the ticket for those of us that enjoyed the 60 sized Super Sportster. I also really apprciate the hatch for access to the fuel tank area and behind the firewall - it is as good an addition as was electric windows and air conditioning. I was looking at the GP Skylark 70 but this new 60 Pulse has won the day in that contest.
Any thoughts or comments on the 120 4S for the 60 sized Pulse would be welcomed.
Howard MY PULSE HAS BECUME MY BEST FLYER. i HOWEVER IT IS VERY EASY TO LOOSE THE FUIL COVER, THE MAGNETS JUST WILL NOT HOLD IT ON. I HAVE ASKED FOR A NEW COVER (HATCH) HAVE NOT RECEIVED AN ANSER YET. IT DUS HAVE A TENDENCY TO NOSE OVER DURING TAKE OFF BUT USING HIGH RATES ON ELEVATOR IT IS FINE. I'M USING MAGNUM 91 FOR POWER AND IT IS MORE THAN SUFFICENT POWER.

I went back to the Dubro gear . The stock gear is too short for the 14x8 MAK on our less
than perfect grass field . When I reversed the stock gear I got better ground handling but
I hit the prop on less than perfect landings and some taxiing . I put the Dubro gear back ,
gained about an inch clearance on but have not flown since .
The last flight I lost my first muffler off the OS FS91 IIP . Guess I have to check that more
often .

Mine is powered with a Laser 100 4stroke swinging a MAS 14x 8 . I mounted the engine to the side, I used a great planes adjustable engine mount balanced as directed by instructions, control throws according to the manual. Not much ground clearence with a 14" prop. Gets off the ground fast. Landings, come in tail low no problems. Don't use wheel pants. Glued wing halvs together and glued tail surfaces in place. Flies great have about 10 flights no problems. very enjoyable airplane easy flyer most of flight is on half throttle. I replaced stock spinner with a tru turn.

I too have switched to a TruTurn spinner , and 3 1/2 H9 wheels also. I also changed
receiver batteries to a 1600 hydromax 6 volt battery. I mounted it as far back in
the fuselage as possible , just in front of the stabilizers . I changed the gear to
DuBro fiberglass , using the same mount holes as the stock gear . With an OS
FS91 pump the total weight is 7 lbs 5 oz and cg is at 3 5/8 inches from leading
edge , slightly tail heavy but in the recommended range . I have been flying my
Pulse for over a year now and this latest set up is the best . No nose over when
taxiing , even on a rough grass field and with no up elevator . Good aerobatics and
nice landing characteristics . I have noticed a small crack in the elevator at the back
of the horn under the covering . It might be a sign of a weakening elevator . I will
keep an eye on it and check for changes in trim . I also have had the black stripes
under the wing starting to delaminate . I used some thin ca to reattach the layers .
It doesn't look great but seems to be doing the job .

"Caution-Rant"........ Horizion, why in the world do you put out an airframe in which you KNOW the fusalage hatch is quazi secure at best, and not offer it as a replacement part without having to purchase the entire fusalage??????? All the other Pulse's in you line have a replacement hatch, but not the 60, Oh NoNo Way!!!!! Yea, I was stupid enough to loose mine, and it is my fault, but this is just plain BULL.......Period. I am getting tired of Hanger 9's shortcomings, I'd flip 'em the Bird if they could see me.

Skypilot,
I called H9 when I lost mine. They told me that the airframes are built in a jig to ensure quality control. Due to this jig building process, the hatches have to be built indivually to each plane. This means that the hatches are built as on offs and even if you coudl buy a hatch from someone, it may not fit your airframe. I would recommend making your own hatch from stick materials. I'm still not sure that the whole jig building process used by H9 ensures that all the airframes are of good quality if the hatches has to be built as one offs.

Hi jamesc43,
I've tried your PM and e-mail, but they haven't been activated. Sorry to hear of your Pulse XT 60's demise. Are you interested in selling Pulse XT 60 wheel pants, or not? Last chance.
Thanks,
flylower

Skypilot,
No, The plane tried to corkscrew itself into the ground without the right wing half. It was destroyed back the rear wing mounts. The second Pulse commited suicide during a dive. We think the right horizontal section seperated from the airplane because it was almost 50 ft away from the crash site.
flylower,
I've decided not to sell the wheel pants.

I'm sure you will enjoy it.
I suspect the ASP 108 weighs more than a Saito 125?

Thanks. I think it will weigh more but im sure it can be balenced up with a bit of lead in the tail.

RE: *New Hanger 9 Pulse XT 60*
Thanks. I'm just a little worried about it being a little bit to powerful as it say's a maximum of a 75 2 stroke, but hanger 9 air frames are velly well built.

Stumpy423,
I had a OS 91 FX in my Pulses. To balance the airplane I had to move the battery to the receiver location and add about 3/4 of an ounce of lead to the tail. I've read the specs on the ASP 108 and it weighs significantly more than the OS 91 but doesn't put out quit ethe power of the OS 91. I think powerwise you should be OK. Just make sure you pull the power back during decending manuvers. The weight might be another issue. Definitely look at the the weight of that engine versus the Saitos or the OS engines.
