Kinda missed the point there fellas. Being ugly has nothing to do with the way it flies. "Function before beauty" says it all. That would apply to the Pawnee, the Wilga, some of the British "warplanes" from WWII, and that ag truck from Australia. And a lot of the 3D sport planes. They do what they were designed to do very well. In some cases better than the pretty planes.

But this thread is about ugly, and those airplanes are FUGLY.

Jim

Another example: Most people would agree that a Stick is a great flyer. Most people would also agree that "pretty Stick" is an oxymoron.

Here's another example of 'function before beauty'.... it's a plain looking almost boring to look at airplane. BUT...man o man it's blazing fast. It's a racer...ugly, but it does it's job well...leaves the pretty planes in the dust!

Then my vote goes to post #32 from optech. That plane looks like a bullfrog with wings and a fancy paint scheme.[:'(] That vote has nothing to do with function...I have no clue how it flies...I just think it ugly. Borderline to fugly.

Now, here is an airplane that will make a freight train take a dirt road! I sure hope it flies good, even its mother has went into hiding!
I'll second that one.
My buddy has one, (YS-56 on it) and damn, it is just fugly sitting on a bench, HUGE tail end on that thing.... it sure is freight-train-heavy.
We're waiting for good weather, better than the the 10F we've been getting so far, to fly the "monster".
The Seagull Harrier? I think its colors are a redeeming quality. I especially like the transparant blue. Wouldn't it be cool to put a fluorescent light in it, and fly it at night? A glowing jellyfish with wings! And yes, I did see one fly one day. Let's just say, it runs a whole heck of a lot better than it looks. And who said the Hangar-9 Tango is ugly? It may look odd, but it sure beats the heck out of a Lazy Bee. Want function before form fugly? How about the World Models Sky Raider Mach 1?

When chord approaches span or the mains move forward of the L.E. (on certain designs) its easy to achieve ugliness.
On other types, it can be done with a high aspect ratio wing like this design and why isn't there any ARF offering of it?

Real airplanes have two wings and round engines; did the Fairchild A-10 "Warthog" really fly? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WSK-Mielec_M-15_Belphegor

Oh my gosh, I forgot about that one. I think I must have subconsciously blocked it from my mind. We may have to award the trophy to the H9 Raptor PTS. I can't imagine anyone coming up with an uglier ARF. ( I hope not anyway, anything uglier than that would cause nightmares.)[X(]

Well how about these VMAR ARF pilots? Some of them look absolutely terrified sitting in a VMAR ARF. Its like they almost know that there is a good chance the Plane may just self distruct in mid air! That one Jet Pilot on the right has eyes as big as saucers!LOL He definately knows he is about to bite the dust, and has "help me, I am hot glued into this POS airplane" written all over that face!

Hey, the Raptor F22 TRAINER may be somewhat ugly, but at least it's got some really dumb design flaws as well.

LMAO!

Either that or the specialized Vmar O2 system failed...they're all white as ghosts!

[sm=lol.gif] Maybe it's how the pilot was attatched to the floor that made his eyes bulge............[8D]

That Frenzy should not even be posted.[&:] After you have them built and all stickered up they are beautiful at least everyone i have met that has seen mine has thought it looked great. Everyone. The orange stands out at first but man it gets to looking good when finished. Have you seen one flying at all. Like they said everyone has different opinons but for my OPIN. I think it does not deserve being in the UGLY LIST at all. By the way they fly very very good also. Have over 55 flights on mine and it performs like a dream.
All planes i happen NOT to have are ugly to me. But when i get them they become alot more pretty maybe it is the guy at the controls that just makes anything look better rofl.

To me, the red one actually doesn't look too bad. The yellow one made me run to the bathroom and puke as soon as I saw it.[:'(]

First off, let me say that any 'profile' plane is plain ugly! But just because it has a fuselage doesn't make it pretty.

Profiles are all about function. There not supposed to be pretty. But some do have nice schemes.
