Default New Goldberg Ultimate?

Has anyone seen this at any of the shows yet? I know it hasnt been released but, perhaps someone got a peek at one of the trade shows. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXSBY8&P=7. The price seems a little steep at 450.00.

I was thinking it looked pretty nice as well but, like I said 450.00 for the plane is a lot. The 1.60 size GP ultimate is obviously a good plane and bigger for less money. It must be the name or something we would be buying. I always wanted to try a bigger ultimate but, the GP was little to big for what I wanted. Now it is looking better.

I wonder why they would manufacture another Ultimate that is so close in size to the original? Also with it being more expensive than the GP and smaller, who would buy this plane? For the money and size, I would just stick with the original Goldberg Ultimate.

I don't understand the reason for G.P. buying Goldberg. They have so many competing planes, it just doesn't make since. on top of that I see that alot of the laniers and CG's are being discounted until sold out then discontinued. i agree i can't see this being a popular plane.

With the lead-times for new designs coming in from China, it may be that the Goldberg Ultimate was well into the pipeline before the sale to Hobbico. As for the price, Goldberg's have been seriously overpriced since Lanier bought them. Maybe that price was set some time ago also. Or it could be that they are overstocked on Great Planes Ultimates and want to make them look more attractive by comparison. I'd expect one or the other of them to be discontinued when the current stock runs out.

As for buying the other brands, they do that to eliminate competition. Goldberg has a well established name and product line. It would be much cheaper for someone to get into the industry by buying Goldberg than it would be by starting from scratch. If Hobbico owns them, nobody can do that.

Jim

Another thought: Hobbico likes to offer airplanes that fit the engines they sell. The new Ultimate will probably be a much better match with the OS 160 2-stroke and the OS 200 4-stroke than the Great Planes is.

I did notice the the original Goldberg Ultimate ARF price had gone up but has now gone back down since hobbico bought them.
I have been looking to get the GP Ultimate for a while so hopefully they do not discontinue them before I get a hold of one. It seems that the ARFs disappear from the market faster than the kits did. Sometimes it is as if they only do one production run and then discontinue them. The other issue is being in stock. Look at Sig. It seems like they have a hard time maintaining stock as they do not seem to get enough produced.

I don't know how the quality of this plane is but I don't think it is too overpriced if you are getting a real monokte covered, laser-cut, light strong arf with hardware. The GP yak is 400$ from tower and they are probably about the same size as far as weight and materials to build/labor/etc. I think it a good size. I would love to have an ultimate to strap a 180 4 stroke on and have a good 3d plane. My comments are all contingent on the plane meeting the requirements I have stated of course. If it is a chinakote covered, heavy pos with crap hardware and not much pre-assembly done it is way over-priced and should be thrown in the "don't ever buy" category like the 350$ OS 81a.

I dont want to start bashing the quality of the plane before it has even hit the streets, it could end up being an all out ball of fun. And other than the price, I would have already put one on pre-order. I have never owned a GB plane and I havent ever heard any real negatives about any of them. I am just saying that it is priced fairly high compared to all the other GB planes in the same size category. The GP yak, cap, and su31 are all 25% planes( I believe) and if an ultimate with a 60.5 WS ends up being around 15lbs like those planes are then no it isnt well designed and not built lightly. But like you stated, it all depends on how well it is put together. I am not sure as of yet what size they are going to state it as being (90, 120 or ?). Maybe the price will even come down once they get them in stock and ready to send out. Just my .02.

P.S. Sorry, I am just venting since Newman won the 500. D*%$ I&!!!!!

I have owned a Goldberg Ultimate ARF and it was worth the money. Great airplane. I think the issue is the price differance betweent the new GB Ultimate and the current Great planes Ultimate. Why pay more for less? I guess unless you have an engine that is better suited to that size of plane.
I agree about the price of the new OS 4-strokes......way too high. I will stick with saito.

I actually wanted #20 to pull it out. The brat is a great driver and I do like him but, people have to get over the fact that he nor anyone else will be like his dad.
