I am having a problem with my new T'craft struts. Today the left strut attachment on the landing gear broke where it attaches to the gear. I am wondering if any one else has experienced the same problem and has come up with a fix.
I am thinking of drilling the strut and epoxy a 2-56 threaded rod into the strut, adding a bit of nyrod to the treads where it meets the gear and attaching a 2-56 lock nut where the threads come through the gear.
Has any one else have any ideas?

It could be that there is a small amount of flex in the landing gear when you land. I am putting a T'craft together now and plan to put a narrow thin piece of alluminum right through the fusalage
, bolted on top of the L/G and drilled at each end to accomodate the wing struts. It seems to me to be a goofy idea to attatch wing struts to L/G legs. What happens if you make a really fast and hard landing and wipe out yur L/G? ( it happens. Murphy's Law ) Seems like you would do major damage to your wing. I doubt that your idea of using nyrod as I understand it would be strong enough. Even though the T"craft is a docile airplane pulling out of a loop can put a great strain on the wing struts. Not a pretty sight if one fails lol. :idea:

Hangar Rat thanks for your reply. Your approach to the fix is a very good idea. I am not sure if the struts on this plane are functional. H9 says they are but if they were it would seem to me they would have used your approach to the strut set up. We have another member in our club who sometimes flies his T'craft without them but it takes away from its appearance.
My approach to the repair, as you say, will break away on a hard landing or gear wipeout which is what I would want to happen.
The metal used in these struts is brittle so it is only a matter of time before they break.

While your fixing the wing struts just as well fix the landing gear struts also. Flew mine five times today and they popped off every landing, and yes they were nice landings. Need some sort of spring support so they give a little.

How did they pop off? Thats why I don't like the idea of the struts fastened to the L/G leg. What happened to the struts when the L/G popped off? What fix do you think the L/G needs? :idea:

Jason, my neighbor had some very heavy duty monofiliment line, he said it was 200 lb test. He must be fishing for whales, anyway he gave me a piece and I attached it to the former H9 gear attachments by crimping them in place. I am attempting to attach a picture for you to see. It is a very effective arrangement, no problems the occassional hard landing that I suceed in making once in a while.

JEanes, I like the set up. Looks like an aluminum bar threaded to accept the struts, am I correct?

NOPE.....I use a 4-40 cap screw with a nylock nut.

Go with the aluminum support for the wing struts and forget about the landing gear struts. They seem to be more for looks than function. By the way thanks JEanes I used your idea hope it wasn't patent. HA HA!
