I've been flying my Avistar 40 trainer for almost 2 years now.
I'm looking for a second plane, about the same size. Intermediate flying skill. Something fairly stable, but will allow me to do the gammet of aerobatics.
I've been thinking about the Hanger 9 P51 PTS plane, and stripping off the newbie stuff.. Any other suggestions?
I _would_ like flaps.
I do _not_ have the time to spend much time building, so it has to be an ARF/RTF/PNP
Limiting myself to $500

The PTS is fine, but consider the Pulse XT... PNP is available, and it is an awesome flyer.

I was looking at the pulse, but the only thing I didnt like about it was no flappys, thats why I was thinking about the pts.
The pulse would allow me some wiggle room to get a good radio system too, the 6ch JR isnt bad that come with the PTS, but I was really looking at the 6ch spektrum radio.

What for?
The plane will already land at a walking pace.
It is very gentle on the approach and landing, but can still fly aerobatics...

How 'bout a Ultra Stick 40.. You can build it with the flap option and then you get to do all kinds of cool stuff.. (crow/butterfly, elevator flap mix.. etc). Lands like a trainer, and will do a good bit of aerobatics..

g-day
the six ch raideo spectrum raideo the spectrum DX6 if we are thinking of the same one is only for parkflyers so i wouldent use it on a trainer i would get the dx7 which is the same deal but it is a full rainge system i have one and it is bloody awsum.
the parkzone f27c stryker is great fun but it dosent sound like you are looking for that type of plane.

If you want a pretty plane that LOOKS like a plane the Kyosho Calamato is wonerful... great flyer, 40 sized so your trainer motor will fit and 2 versions available a low wing(SPORT) or a high wing . No flaps but in this size bird flaps are rarely used (just not needed
) Do a RCU search and you'll find out it is the plane that most people are raving about in this size/style, and the latest release has no covering problems. If you are dead set to have flaps, the best choice IMHO is the ULTRASTICK 40. Very aerobatic but on low rates is a very gentle, stable flyer. It comes with both full length airlons and the quad/flap setup. I built it with flaps but rarely used them, it also adds the weight/expence of 2 more servos, but the plane is not hurt by the weight... I just think that in general, lighter is better because you land a little faster and verticals are a little slower with weight. SO if you want a great step up from a trainer, the Calamto Sport is the way to go and is the fastest build of any arf I've ever tried. The US40 is a great plane to play with spoilers, flaps, crowing, etc with if your radio supports a lot of functions. The Goldberg Tiger II is the 40 sized version of the Tiger series, and they are great looking and very good flyers, but I don't think the 40 or 60 size have flaps.
Hope this helps.
