RE: BH T-28 Assembly
I agree, great flight report. With out the wind you will need the flaps, she wants to glide and if you drop the idle down to land, she will slow quickly and snap if you are not careful. I know this first hand. Snapped the wing and having to repair. Keep the little power on and she will settle in nicely.

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
great report Bob and congrats on your flight. What size 3 blade do you have on your plane. I have the magnum 91 and a I just got a 13 X 8 at a swap meet. I am wondering how that would work on my plane? Any input from you guys would be great.

here is a picture of the propeller I got. It even has Hamilton Standard stickers on it. I got it for $2. It is a 13 x 8. Man I hope it works. And here is a picture of the Robart covers on the landing gears. It really dresses up the plane nicely.

13/8 should be fine.
Here's the saito recommended sizes for a 91.
Saito-91 13x8, 14x6, 14x7, 14x8
The 14/7 is the ideal prop. So, for the 3 blade, drop one size on lenght and up one on pitch.
Ergo, 13/8

I sure hope so. I want that 3 Blade on there so bad. It looks so cool with it on there. Now I have to paint the tips.

Guys!
Did I say I love the Robo's?
Another thing I want to recommend to you Saito users, get the velocity stack for the carb. I forgot to put mine on. I helps in tuning and keeps inside the cowl cleaner by not allowing fuel over spray to shoot out the carb.
I can't wait to get out and play with the flaps. It ain't happening today. It's wind and rain.[:@] Oh well, I've got some work to do on it anyway.
The 13/8 prop, I think is perfect with the 82 and should be fine with the magnum 91. A two blade would perform better but I'm not a hotrod and it's fast with the three blade.
Painting the tips looked cool at the field. It was neat to see where the ends of the prop were when running.
I forgot to mention that the landing on the vid was dead stick. DOH![sm=red_smile.gif] The Saito is to rich on the low end.
Joe Chovan was the pilot. He's an expert flyer with 3D, Sail Planes, and jets. You can see him in the May AMA mag Soaring section. I let him maiden all my planes. Once he puts a craft thru it's paces, I'm more relaxed with my first attempt. When you know it flies it's a big load off your shoulders. He's saved me more than once. He maidened my Eindecker and 1/2 the horizontal stab snapped off in a loop. He got it down. I'm hoping next week to have him maiden my G26 powered Corsair, my first gasser.
As promised, here's a link to the video.

I just fixed the vid. It wasn't re-coding and I reduced the size. It now is viewable! Sorry that the quality went down.

Looking good Bob! I'm glad your LG doors stayed on nicely. Maybe I have to get the robostruts like you, or I was thinking I need to come up with a way to mount the doors to the robo covers only, and not to the wing itself, so that the doors are basically floating independent of the wing. IN any case, your plane looks great both on the ground and in the air! Jon

A tad more tuning and it'll be perfect.
I found the red paint you used. I had a heck of a time but Home Depot had it. Now My cowl will look as nice as yours.
I may have to add a dummy radial engine.
As for the doors, I was worried they would act as wing tip generators, if that was a problem. But, everything worked out!
I don't know what all the fuss was about with engine cooling. I had no problem with over heating and I have minimal cut outs on the cowl.
Another thing I've learned, Saito shake like paint mixers if they're too rich. I thought it was the prop.
I can't wait for the bigger version of the Trojan!
Bob

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
Great looking plane and thanks for the video Bob. Hmmmm, now you have me thinking. How can I out do your video I have a [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/video-camera.htm]Flycamone2[/link] buy I don't know how the heck I would mount that thing to the plane without putting a velcro patch that I don't want left on when the camera isn't on it. Any ideas would be great guys. I am also trying to figure out how to put the doors on without attaching them to the wing. Man for such an inexpensive plane it sure works your mind over with ideas. Man isn't this addiction or I mean hobby great

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
Maidened my T-28 yesterday and the only bad thing I found after I got it trimmed out was the terribly weak nose gear. Landing on a grass strip, the springy gear just folds under and stalls or flips the plane. I think other people have experienced this and was wondering what replacement they have used and to what result. Thanks in advance. Gary

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
I can recommend the Tower Hobbies Trainer 40 nose gear. It is shorter and makes the plane sit just about level if you use about a 1/2" smaller nose wheel diameter compared to the mains. The stock nose gear is way too long as noted in many posts in this thread and gets in the way of good landings. Jon

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
Hi everyone,
I have just found out that BH make a 120 size Trojan that is already set up with retracts and has a 2 metre wing span. There are apparently 4 of them in Oz so I have put my name on one of them. I looking forward to receiving the new Bird and setting it up.
This is a very informative thread and with the news of the bigger Trojan can only get bigger. I will try to keep you informed. Hopefully the bigger bird will turn up soon.

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
skysfallin-I had the same problem with my nose gear and switched to a Great Planes gear from a different model I didn't use a few years ago. Also changed the pushrod to a piece of .074 music wire. Had to fiddle quite a bit to make it bend around the fuel tank. Also changed the wheels to larger size. I fly off a grass field also.

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
Lukeshort, I also had another set of gear I thought was a little heavier, but the problem with all those nose gear is they are wrapped in a coil giving you the illusion that it is spring steel and will rebound and to some degree they are but they are weak springs at best , otherwise they would not bend so easily. I went with the Fults Dual Strut for the front gear, although they are ugly ( my opinion) and heavy, they are hell for strong and actually spring steel. Ill let you know how well they work next weekend when I fly again.

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
The nose gear wire offered in the kit is typical China soft wire. If you go get a Dubro nose wheel kit for $6 you shouldn't have any issues with the nose gear. At least thats been my expierence. Jerry.

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
skysfallinSome time ago I looked up the Fults number RF360 just in case. Is this the one you're using? Plane has flown so darn good the five times I've had it up I really want to cure the nose wheel problem. I'll look forward to your reply after you've had a chance to fly yours with the Fults.

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
Luke, I dont know which model fults gear this is but the Tower number is LXH126 and is the four inch from center of coil to center of axle. I also went with larger mains and a smaller front wheel so it wouldnt sit nose high.

RE: BH T-28 Assembly
I went with Fults RF36J. Fully adjustable between 3" and 6" long. More involved in installing than the fixed length gear. Requires some filing with a rat-tail file. Haven't chopped off the excess yet.
