Default Phoenix Decathlon questions

I just got my Phoenix Super Decathlon ARF. I have a few questions:

There are no directions for installing the wing supports, only a poor picture. The supports are aluminum, flattened on one end, and plastic clevises on the other end. There is an aluminum plate that gets bolted inside the plane with 1/3 protruding from the fuse, and a hole in the protruding portion. There is some hardware, but I don't know what it is or how to use it. Can you give me some advise for installing these things?

The fuel tank is TINY! It is supposed to be secured with silicon sealant - does anyone have experience doing this? I don't.

I guess that's it for now, thanks.

You can buy the silicon sealant in a tube, usually at Wal-Mart, Home Depot, or other sources. You should find it some place in the home wares department, where ever they sell window or pipe sealant. I generally use DAP 100% silicone rubber sealant, and it comes in a 2 oz. tube. I would have to see some photos in order to help you any further. I believe the neck of the tank would be the area where the sealant is applied, but I'm not sure.

I used a small bolt to attach the struts to the aluminum joiner on the fuse, then used clevises to attach to the wing. I used a 12 oz tank and put a little silicone around the front to secure it to the firewall. I then packed foam around the tank to keep it from moving around. Hope this helps.

The wing supports are just for show. I don't use em myself. Saves set up time and having to keep track of extra parts. [8D]

Thanks guys. I just got a flat bottomed 12oz tank too; the one they give you is tiny!

So the flattened end of the wing struts have a little hole in the center; that will get bolted on to the aluminum plate that protrudes from the fuse. Do I bend the flattened end? Sorry I have no camera. I'd get one but I spend all my $$$ on planes!

There are clevises on the other end of the struts. How do they attach to the wing? Similar to a control surface with one of those plastic horns?

Thanks guys. I already took the time to un-cover the wing struts and paint them white, so I'm gonna use them. I got metal clevises to assist with connecting and unconnecting for travel.

I bent the flat end of the struts on an angle so they they are flat when bolted to the metal joiner on the fuse. I used the little plastic couplings that came with the kit to attach to the wing. You use one screw to attach them to the wing then use clevises to attach to the struts. If you don't have them, you could use a control horn but try to get very small ones so they aren't so obvious on the wing.

For the takeoff, be sure to slowly throttle up and keep on the rudder to keep it straight. If you throttle up too quickly, the plane will suddenly veer to the left and start ground looping! [X(]
