ARFs building quality

Has anyone noticed, that there are alot of discussions here, and at the field, magazines, etc. where something happens to someones plane, cause its built badly. It might crash, or need a good bit of extra work, to get it flyable, like adding glue. But then, there are alot of other people who come back to them saying that they have a plane like that, that flies great, beautifully, strong, went together easily with no problems.
Why is that, is it some of the staff have bad moods, are forced to build faster, or they are paid half a peanut for a days work.
It seems strange to me, any thoughts?
Robert.

One of the great things about this hobby is that there are as many different opinions as there are airplanes. Most ARF's will fly fine if built exactly as said in the manuel, most of us don't do that. We tend to take the original plane and over-power, over-control,and exceed the designed flight charistics of the planes. There is nothing wrong with this, its part of the hobby. you will also find that there is some quality inconsistancy with most manufactures, one might be perfect the next not so. What you really need to do here is read the posts that apply to your plane and use the problems as check-points just to make sure your plane wasn't built on a friday afternoon after a liquid lunch.

Most of my Hangar consist of the higher quality of ARF. Be that as it may. I treat them all the same.
1. I always glass up the firewall.
2. Rebuild the Retract mounts
3. Use a fair amount of CA here and there.
4. If i really like the plane but the covering is poor, I'll recover.
Take the Advance.40. I put over 300 flights on this plane in the last 2 years. I use it as a warm up plane and when the weather is not very good or with my kid and do not want to risk my better fleet. Well I stripped it and rebuilt and solid enough for another couple years.
Some of these smaller Arfs are great flyers, just poorly built. Spectrum,Champion, Aresti. Great flying planes but questionable on the inside. This new Pizazz seems to be neat. Friend has one. Real nice.
