Default Hanger 9 or Great Planes 40 size Cherokee?

I am planning to get either of the ARF units below. I have read relatively good feedback on the Great Planes product but have limited info on the Hangar 9 unit which Horizon is selling for $60.00 less than Tower's Great Planes. They are both good brands but wonder why Horizon's product is much cheaper, is there a catch? Thanks much!

I have seen both up close and I have flow the Great Planes version.

The GP is a lot nicer looking in my opinion and has nice Monokote covering. The Hangar-9 appears to have some sort of pre-printed stuff, not the usual quality Ultracote used on most of their other planes.

The GP is newer and at least appear to be a more modern ARF.

When it comes to flight though, I really can't compare since I haven't flown the H-9.

I have flown both and they both fly well but overall the GP Cherokee is much nicer. The GP Cherokee has optional flaps. If I remember correctly the H9 Cherokee does not. Could be brain fade though. The GP Cherokee is very nicely finished and builds fast. Check for coupons at Tower Hobbies. They have $20 off any purchase of $149.99 or more. Code 014B7 will do the trick.

One more thing to note. The GP has prepainted fiberglass wheel pants and cowl. The H9 cowl and wheel pants are ABS.

Go with Great Planes. We should boycott H9 for going ridiculous on their prices.

Having built and flown the GP Cherokee I can say the finished product not only looks nice...it really flies great. BTW: check out the Pacific Aeromodels Knockabout ARF. I am flying it now and it is really fun; looks like a Cherokee.

I spent last weekend with Ken Isaac (RC Ken) who wrote [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/article_display.cfm?article_id=1039]This Review[/link] of the GP Cherokee. We were comparing notes on some the planes we've reviewed this year and this plane was one of his favorites.

He had a LOT of really good things to say about it.

I tried mine with both a .46-Ax and an electric using the recommended setup. While the electric had plenty of power to fly the plane well, it was heavier and this was noticeable in the way it flew. It was to me anyhow. I liked the .46-AX in it much better.

Another club member made me an offer I couldn't refuse though and the Cherokee is now his.
