Default Very Bad, CMP AT-6 Texan

I have bought last winter from NitroPlanes a CMP AT-6 Texan and I did 6 flight of 10 minutes. On the last flight I was straight and level and the fiberglass mid-section of the wing fold in flight. The tip off each wing almost thouch together. Nothing I could do to prevent this because it's impossible to see what's inside that portion off the wing. It is simply and baddly built because there is no plywood former and even No main spar, only cheap balsa ribs cover with fiberglass.
This specific section is structural, it has to take all the weight and stress off the aircraft and it's the weakes one. Of corse my Zenoah 26ei was badly hurt in the crash like other parts. I’m realy sad because I had nothing to do whit that crash and also because that plane was flying very well. I did send emails with pictures to CMP and they simply dind’t reply to me. Nitroplanes told me that there was nothing to do and that the were sorry, WOW! That is what the call customers support!
One member of my flying club crash a Top Flite Staggerwing on is first flight. He than discover that the CG on the plan was roung. He did contact Top Flite explaning the situation, Top Flite approved and they send him and other plane for free, that's customer support!

If you think about buying a CMP AT-6 Texan, THINK AGAIN because it’s not built to last.

Many thank's China Model Production I will remember you!

Looks like you tried in a professional way to resolve the problem and get some deserved help from the source. I thank you for your further steps to make us all aware of the problem that is obviously well hidden in the air frame. Looks like this WILL happen to anyone buying this aircraft eventually. We can only hope that prospective buyers of this plane do what we all should do and take advantage of this great resource for researching the worth of any airplane we consider spending our money on.

I also think you got poor cust service, at the price nitro gets these kits for and im
sure its pretty low compared to what they sell them for it would not have hurt
them to give you a free kit.

What a shame Bruno. I am really sorry to hear about your plane. I would be very persistent about contacting Nitro. I hope the come through for you. That is the crappiest built plane I have ever seen. I think my down syndrome son could build a plane better than that.

I doubt it has anything to do with your nationality, as their service seems equally poor to all.

Nitro AT-6 version:
Wingspan: 82" Lenght 55" Size 160 and priced at $249.95

Top Flite new AT-6 Version:
Wingspan: 69" Lenght 51" (only four inches shorter than the nitro planes) Size 60 (I would use a .90 as a minimum) and priced at $279.99
(Three easy payments if bought from TH)

The main difference here is:

Service.

Absolutely Theo. I have seen people get their problems taken care of when they post in that forum. That is whenever they decide to check that forum.

I have contemplated on buying a plane from them but keep seeing more and more problems with their customer service. I understand you aren't going to get a scale plane from Nitro for their prices but you should get one that is built properly with minimal reinfrocing.

sorry for the bad experience.
Its not customer service, it’s the plane it self.
If you get a new plane like you want I’m not sure the wing collapse wont happen again…
That would be a mistake of second order!

I would say, it was first a problem with the plane, that then became a compounded problem with poor customer service.

Nitro planes service is non existant at the best of times. I called them about a problem with my lady's plane, they said I dobnt know what you are talking about and hung up on me, call only lasted 48 seconds [:'(] I called straight back, got the same dude, he just said theres nothing wrong with our planes and hung up again. Nitro Planes service? first order oxymoron [:@]

i have never owned a nitromodels plane but several of my flying buddies have and i have heard the same types of gripes from them. one guy had one of their delta wings and on the first flight the engine firewall came right out causing the plane to spiral out of control doing extensive damage. he got no satifaction from their customer service. another flyer had one of their aerobatic .46 size planes and on the 4th flight one wing panel snapped about a 3rd of the way from the wing root.. it was found that the wing spars was very soft wood. not wing spar material. again nitro's customer service did nothing for him. i do not like bashing a company but if the shoe fits , wear it.

Wow, that is both sad and amazing...no wood where you need it and it looks like some 1by 3 blocks just thrown in there to beef the wing mount... They were definately trying to rely to much on the surface strength of the glass wing surface, I hope you can come to an agreement with them...But I have always heard nitro models was a RISKY DISTRIBUTOR for service.... Unless I am wrong didn't this kit used to have a traditional builtup wing? I have one of the big CMP pro zero's from that same line of kits(older) and its built up...

Oh, an in addition this is the WRONG TIME to be dissin customers!

Yes! But it's very hard to reenforce that wing box whitout breaking what's inside. It as to be made at the factory.

what makes you think that the next airplane that you will get from this factory will be built better?
It’s a problem in design!
Do you want to ruin another motor and radio system, or worse….. ?

Sorry putting it so straight forward.
