Default Richmodel Long EZ 65

I just finished this model and I had a few questions. I've installed a Thunder Tiger Pro-61.

1. Is the CG correct in the manual? If not what is the best position?
2. I set my ailerons to be elevons. So when I pull up, the canard trailing surface goes down and the elevons go up. Anybody fly theirs this way?

This version has functional rudders and I hope they are worth the extra $. Should do some field testing this weekend.

Check your prop/ it appears to be mounted backward for a pusher.

Set the cg a little forward. if it's even close to a little tail heavy you will be lucky to land in one piece. The nose gear is soft as cheese. After you touch down give it down elev. or it will try to fly again.

Thanks for the tip, and good catch on the prop orientation. I was so concerned about the prop nut I bought and how it looked that I didn't pay attention to the orientation during assembly. Hopefully all goes well with the first flight.

Finally got a chance to fly the plane this weekend. After a considerable amount of trim, she was flying really well and smooth. I put about a pound in the nose to offset the TT Pro 61. Has a lot of presence in the air and glides forever. I had to idle on the downwind leg to land before I even began to turn final just to slow it down before touchdown. After the first flight, I added in more expo on my JR9303. I've got 40% on the elevator and elevons. Much better on the sticks and used quite a bit of rudder to straighten out the loops. I tried to fly it without he canard elevator (used a mix to turn it off/on) and I don't recommend it even though I have elevons. So, total of three flights and pretty happy with the looks and performance. Build was pretty fast too.

One of the reasons I didn't buy the nitro planes long ez was because of the canopy. I didn't feel like putting a lot of effort into attaching it, plus I wanted rudders.

I don't know about this on the nitroplanes version, but the Richmodel version used a really week steering linkage. I added an additional shorter rod and shrunk wrapped it to the main linkage to add stiffness. It made a bid difference in ground handling.

I've had the Long-ez pitch straight up and over on landings even after I touched down.I bought the twin Defient hoping it will handle better we will see.The longez got better with a lot of nose weight.

You're right. I added some additional nose weight and the landings got much better. I also did some stall testing at altitude this past weekend. In a really slow situation, the canard and the left wing stall together. Once the stall starts it's pretty violent before you're able to recover. She drops the left wing on mine and starts down, then it spirals into a near 360 uncontrollably before enough airspeed is gained to pull out. I see why people have lost theirs low to the ground, you need A LOT of airspace to recover.

This model will also fly with elevons and no canard (elevator) function. I was able to land and take off without any trouble too. I had full through on the elevons. I noticed that my plane was hunting (pitching) during takeoff and I later found that the nose cone mounting screws were loose allowing the cone to move up and down. I really enjoy flying this plane.
