Any experience with the subject ARF? Are there provisions for converting to a tail dragger?

Yes, nice ARF. Tigers are good flyers, altho they tend to build tail-heavy because of the long fuselage. Yes, you can do it as a tail-dragger, but you have to buy your own landing gear and tail wheel. It looks great with wheel pants! BTW, a 4S .91 is a great power plant for a Tiger 60.

Does the CG Tiger 60 come with separate wings. You know with the aluminium tube for ease of transportation?
How fast/complicated is the building on this airplane?
Thanks

I'm building one with a friend, as he's never built a plane before.

The kit (ARF) is quite nice, and complete. It goes together quickly enough, but it takes longer when you're explaining things as you go.

The wing is two piece, and stays that way. The two tubes slide in, and the wing bolts and dowels hold it together. After unbolting, the wing comes right apart. Very nice.

The only complaints I have so far, on the building, is that one aileron was slightly warped (very slight), and the vertical fin assembly leaves a small gap on the fuselage at the front of it, and along the sides a bit. We've purchased some Flame Red (what it is) to cover those little gaps, to make it look better.

We also converted it to a Taildragger (instructions in kit, but no parts), and will be installing an OS .91 Fx engine in it. We're fitting a 14 ounce tank instead of the supplied 10 ounce one, because of the bigger engine. It will fit easily. The fuselage is plenty strong, and the wing area will easily accomodate the extra power. We've also got some wheel pants, and the matching paint. It's going to look really nice!

I think this will be a great airplane. Should be done with it next week. I already know the design itself flies well, I expect the same from this one.

We're using a Futaba 6XAS radio in it. Everything installs really easily.

If I had to change anything, I would change the control horns to Dubro single bolt horns, and the 6" extensions the instructions call for are not nearly long enough. Use 12" aileron extensions, and you'll be fine... I can't think of anything else right off I would change.

I started this thread and then went out and bought the ARF plus Tower's .75 motor, from Tower (usual three day great service and low shipping cost). I have 5 flights to date, all this morning. I have nothing but praise for the plane. A few comments:
Install the motor and everything else as far forward as possible to keep from having to add nose weight. I did that and still had to use a brass prop nut to get the CG inside the max aft recommended value. Turns out, after flying, the CG is too conservative. I intend to move it back some more, probably by removing the brass prop nut.
Control throws are way too conservative, even for normal sport flying. These are small surfaces. Especially the elevator.
I did the tail dragger conversion and the model tracks very nice on takeoff and landing. Looks cool, also.
Had problems getting the mid range and low speed working well on the motor until I changed the glow plug to an OS #8. All problems went away. When starting this motor for the first few times, use a hot air gun to expand the cylinder as recommended in the manual. It works great. After a couple of tanks the motor loosens up just fine. I am getting 12,500 on an APC 12-6 prop. Measured thrust is 9 pounds on 10% synthetic.
One great looking and flying plane. I think I made a two click trim change to the elevator on the first flight.

Way to go CG products!

Another 6 flights on my CG Tiger 60 ARF. What a nice flying airplane.I am getting the trim refined and the tracking just keeps getting better. Only problem is not enough rudder area. I have the rudder set at 35% and it still is not enough to do crisp stall turns, spins or snaps. I am going to install a larger rudder. The Tower .75 is still doing fine. More and more of these are showing up at our flying field with good results. I am now running an APC 12/8. RPM's are 11,500 on 10% nitro. At full throttle I can pull straight up and the plane pulls almost out of sight before it runs out of flying speed. I get about 12 - 14 minutes of flying time doing pattern routines with the 10 oz tank.

" The wing is two piece, and stays that way. The two tubes slide in, and the wing bolts and dowels hold it together. "

That's great news. I missed that part in the specifications from the manufacturer.

I have been thinking of getting a SIG 4 star 60 but the Tiger 60 having a two piece wing sways me over the the Goldberg Model.

As far as a tail dragger and no tail wheel is ok. I usually use a aftermarket tail wheel assembly instead of the manufacturers.

I put a Klett tail wheel on this one. It has the blind nuts already in the tail section for a bracket. The main gear, you have to install blind nuts yourself. Not too hard, but it's a bit tricky getting in there.

If I were to re-write the instructions, I'd say to leave off installing the cockpit and canopy until it was all finished. It's really nice having the top open during radio setup.

We're painting the wheel pants tonight, I think. Engine will be here by week's end. Maybe it will fly this weekend. We've only a few hours each night a few nights a week to work on it, plus all the instructions to work with him on, so it takes a bit of time to do it all right.

Looking really cool....

That's great news, they have already installed the blind nuts. I prefer to use the Klett tail wheels. I normally have to add a piece of 1/8 plywood and epoxy it on to accommodate the blind nuts.

I understand you have to buy Klett products directly. I purchased the last one my hobby store has.

I bought mine (his, I mean) at the local Hobby Town. Maybe Klett doesn't go through shops anymore? I don't know. There's plenty of options back there.... Most any .60 size bracket will work just fine, the plane being as light as it is...

After you have been flying the Tiger 60 ARF.

Have you been able to compare it with the SIG 4 Start 60 ??
