Default Phase 3 EF-16 ARF

These are pics of my Phase 3 EF-16. It's using stock ESC & Motor, 2 Hi-Tech HS-55 micro servos, and the Spektrum AR6100 receiver. I hand painted it with a water based, high gloss latex. I thought it came out pretty good. Very easy to build. Going to cover the bottom with a clear chassis protector, install Rare Earth Magnets to hold the canopy in place(it comes with a sliding lock witout a spring), and add chrome striping to the bottom so I have a better chance of not crashing...not saying I won't but it's a better chance not to anyway! Let me know what you think and any other pointers will help!

looks great. I added 1/64 ply to both sides of the area of foam that holds the pivot for the tailerons and the battery compartment. This later mod saved the nose on mine more than once. I have had a couple nose-ins on launch, from installing the wrong battery, in the more than 80 flights I have on mine (still sporting the OEM motor and ESC). One went strait in like a lawn dart.......no damage!

BTW, this plane has a huge thread on RCgroups in the electric pusher jet section. Tons of general info and mod ideas. Your paint job would surely be a hit. She is a fun plane, and don't be afraid of the wind. Mine has flown in 15-20 MPH and I can get her to fly backwards if I hold my tong right.

Hey thanks for the info! the model i have comes with supports for the section where the tailerons pivot. I hear that is a new thing they added to the kit. but the cockpit balsa mod sounds like a good idea and i will probably end up doing that. i'm not flying this one until i have EVERYTHING i need for it! thanks again!

The plastic supports, if that is what your referring to, are not sufficient. The performance of this bird, even stock, is beyond what they will hold. These F-16s are prone to shed the tailerons under load. It is an easy fix IMO. About 15 minutes of work with some 1/64 ply back there (I also used some gap-filling CA very carefully around the bushing to shore them up), and no worries.

Ahhh, see I read in another thread on rcgroups that it was sufficient. Thanks, I will do that to mod now! Question, since I still consider myself a newb with only 4 planes in my background, what is the bushing? I have foam safe CA, is that enough to fill the gap for that? Thanks so much for your help!! Like I said, I ain't flying it until I know for sure it's ready!! Much Mahalo!!
PS - do you have any photos or video of yours?

Yea. What ever you read, the plastic parts they supply will not hold up if you up the throw and open her up. The bushing I referred to is the part that you slide the live tail sections into. The part they rotate in. It is just slide in foam and they work loose with time and cause a lot of play in the tail. Not good. I 'wick' some extra glue in around them to better secure them in the foam. In the thread on RC Groups I posted a template you can download for the 1/64 ply parts. They can be cut out with good scissors.

Here ya go. It is in the 'electric jet'-'foamy EDF' section.

Get in a comfortable chair and maybe have some refreshment handy. It is a long one.

I am under the same name there as well, if you want to find my templates.
