I was looking at the GSP Edge 540 (80" WS blue, yellow and red). I was wondering if anyone out there has this plane and what is the quality. I have the GSP Katana 140 and love it the only thing I didn't like was the white covering. The Edge 540 is available in ARC or ARF.

Well Fellas,
I have the pink 540 edge from giantscale. If the blue one is anything like the pink 540, I say stay away it's not woth the money.
I bought mine when it cost 500.00 and now it has been greatly reduce.
this is why I'm against it.
mine us setup with a Brison 3.2 and a 22x8 prop for those wondering.
This plane has a very high wing load of 44 ozs and it only weighs 15lbs.
It flys vey heavy and needs a good amount of engine to land.
You have to be careful how you pick up,as it is built with stringers along the bottom of fuse. (of which I had to upgade them to make them stronger.)
if you look good at it the cowl is shaped more like a Extra 300 than a Edge 540.
Also the top fuse hatch has a very small lip to which you fasten it with screws, problem is that my screws either backed out or ripped out with the hatch in flight no less.
it's bad when you buy this type of plane to fly 3-d and even with a good engine it fly's too heavy.
Maybe you should look to Hanger nine's 540?
I did and I just love it it does it all and out flies gs540 hands down.
My H9 has Saito 180 and weighs only 11.5lbs it hangs with less than half throttle and floats in great it also is very great at slow speed.
I hope this helps you.
just my opion on the GS Edge 540 as an owner of one.
End result this plane is a POS!!!

Thanks Attack H.! I have the Lanier Edge 1.20 & I love it!! I just wanted to get a bigger one with out going broke!! I talked to them at GSP & they want $30 to ship so I think I'm going to try the Kangke Laser 2000. Same price & free shipping!! I've always wanted a Laser so I guess I might try it.
Thanks Again &

Thanks for the info attack heli, thats what I was afraid of, the wing area on the 80" edge is smaller or about the same as the 72" edge. I am going to go with the Hangar 9 edge, I am sure the covering is better quality anyway.

Ok ill keep this short as I can......I own the hanger 9 and i love it it is a very nice plane ..If your intrested in a great 3 D plane this in not the best choice in 120 size (boy this is going to open the can of worms) anyway my hanger 9 edge is at 32oz. per sq foot wing loading (I believe its 1010 sq. in wing area) too heavy for great stable 3D..needs to be less..Now it will 3d ok watch the vid on 3dbatix.com..this is not a total floater..It is outstanding for pattern. Tracks beautifully..once you trim it properly...NOTE: I spent the better part of last year trimming my edge: incidence, CG, perfectly straight wing, hand built rudder, engine thrust , and prop choice.
I would check out the Dave Patrick edge..Made for 3D period. probably not much of a pattern bird though...Look at the wing area..it builds light if you dont go overkill w/engine, alerons are larger, more elevator surface area, and rudder.
Remember theses planes are almost 2 years apart in technology...If you can look at the specs...the Patric and H9 are great planes for diff applications..
Take care,
Scott
