keegan,
you can put it in, but 1. Not worth it for the performance 2. you'll have a lot of cowl to cut away

I ordered this ARF and it will be powered by a 55AX. I am flying an Escapade. Will this ARF be a complete new animal to learn.......

ive never flown the escapade but i went from flying my nexstar trainer for 2 months last season to the extra and have had no problems flying this plane. if you go by the manuals cg and fly it on low rates, it is the easiest thing to land. i have the 55ax and usually stay around half throttle. i maidened it about a month ago and have had 8 perfectly successful flights. once switched to high rates the plane comes alive and you can go all out. i set my expo to -40% for all my rates and it flies very easily. hopes this helps! this plane is amazing i just started getting into imac patterns and this plane makes it so much fun! and it looks so good too!

Save your money and get the razor from tower. it's about 1 lb lighter and flies well on a 46 on a 55 it is incredible. one of the best planes I have ever flown, regardless of size.

I am flying a 55AX in a Funtana X 50. I broke in the motor with an 11x8 APC for 11 flights, then switched to a MAS 13x4. GREAT FLYING for aerobatics & 3D! Hovers this HEAVY airframe really well. I had a 55AX in my GP Extra 300S and it flew it well.

Well I have access to a 70 O.S. Surpass. Will the 70 be a better choice than the 55ax???

If you plan on mostly 3D type flying, use the 70 Surpass for the torque in hovers. In 3D you want to use a larger diameter, smaller pitch prop. The 70FS will get you more flight time with the stock gas tank, too. If you want to do general aerobatics, either one is a good choice. The 55AX will get you higher speeds. 11x8 seems to be a good overall aerobatic/speed prop. I get 500' climbs without any problems using that combo.

This plane is only close to 3D power with an 81 FS or a 55 AX. But this is not intended to be a awesome 3D plane. It is much better at pattern and IMAC flying.

nmking09 is right. It's not a great 3D plane. A 81 or 82 4S will have approximately the power of the older 91 4S motors, minus the weight.

Here's the planned set up:

70 O.S. FS
Futaba 3004 servos(ailerons and elevator)
Futaba 3010 servo(rudder)
Mini servo(throttle)

What do you think????

I fly mine with a Saito FA-82. I can hover and domany of the 3d manuvers. It's not the lightest bird in the sky and the wings like to tip in alpha high flying. But ... It's a great 40 size flyer. It looks great in the sky and does knife edge very well. At my club the electric guys took a liking to my plane and bought them. They powered them with rimfire 80's. The performance is spectactular. 2 members used themt in an IMAC meet last week and came in 1st and 3 place in their respected classes.
The only thing I did was change out the gear because it kept spreading out on me. It's built slightly heavy but will stand up to lots of abuse as a daily flyer.

It will be a fun plane with that setup. Not full 3D power, but enough to hover. I would recommend using a 6V battery so the snaps are crisp.

hey guys, im going through the trimming process on my extra and had a question. on up wind downlines i get a small pull to the canopy. now i know a throttle to elevator mix could help this but i got to thinking of incidence. i had an idea and was wondering if it would help. i was thinking of bringing down the center point of my ailerons a little bit by adjusting the clevis on each wing half. would this help? when i put this plane together i had a big problem trying to center my ailerons and mayber theyre both too high?

also i was wondering if some of you guys wouldnt mind posting your radio and throw rate setups. im curious to see what you guys are doing. so far ive only flown on the manuals recommend low and hi rates and it flies great! im practicing and want to start getting into imac and definitely learn some 3d with this plane so im just wondering what your setups were like. thanx!

I would say just mix it out, If it holds a 45 up line you can deal with the down line. I think you are probably asking for problems by messing with the incidence, especially since it took us a while to get it right.

Having said that, give it a shot, couldn't hurt!

Anyone have the link to carbon fiber landing gear? The links posted earlier are dead.

Hi Mike, Hobbyking carries the correct size carbon gear. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10020, as fitted to my extra on page 16....just have to drill the holes for the cap head bolts.

I have only used two bolts for the landing gear to save some weight...two bolts works just fine. I just used the original gear as a template to line up the holes before drilling, pretty straight forward. The gear has an aerofoil shape and are quite nice. Hundred odd landings on them without a drama. They will save you a heap of weight.

By golly they look like they fit pretty well.

Did you ever beef up your fuselage in this area?

I hate tearing out landing gear.....but my Revolver's tore out on a GOOD landing on grass.

Yeah, the gear is a perfect fit. I have never had to beef up the fuselage in the Extra and I only fly off grass and have never had a problem with tearing the gear out as such, having said that my setup is quite lighter than stock.

I have a set of wings and awesome carbon landing gear for sale if anyone wants them. PM me. This plane was an awesome flying bird, but I have moved to all gassers and giant scale.

My Extra is almost ready for maiden. The only thing that I'm going to changeare the servo arms for ailerons. Ihave Futaba 3004's and the stock servo arms seems to short........
