I saw a thread on that a little while back and as I recall, the guy with a US 41 was getting scale-like flight on his but not much more than that. I am planning on putting a 3.2 (52cc) Fox on mine. But then, I have a tendency to do more vertical stuff than scale stuff so I don't mind having the extra power. Besides, one can always back off the throttle to fly scale but if the airplane is underpowered, it will never have the extra umph to save it if you need it.

Keep in mind that the US 41 is a heavy engine. I have been this route before and lost a really nice warbird because I did'nt have enough extra "oomph" to get out of trouble. More is better than not enough and you can always throttle back to achieve scale like flight. I just ordered the GP Pitts and am going with a modified Air Hobbies 3.2 which will give me that extra something if and when I need it. While not as light as other 3.2's, I had Carr Precision custom build a new backplate mount and install a custom B&B muffler, Dave also twisted the carb so I could have a direct throttle linkage.

I asked my local dealer about the engins and she was unable to get them. I also read some threads where somebody was putting ZDZ40 on theirs. What is the maxuim horse power this plane can take? Without hurting the plane. I have read where people has pulled the front of their plane off. I don't want to modify the front of the plane with fiberglass because of the weight.

I think a little common sense is in order here. I have a Taurus 3.2 ordered for mine. I was going to use a ZDZ 40 until I talked myself into a Taurus. I am thourghly convinced tha ZDZ 40 is a great engine for this plane--I was going to get the Taurus 40 (2.4) but figured for a few bucks more go with a size bigger for future considerations--(I tend not to fly any one thing too long). I have owned US engines and the Quarta 42 --pretty much the same engine--and I don't know if it is the right match for this plane. Sorta like owning a Corvette with a 4 cyl engine--just don't make too much sense to me. A high performance plane deserves a high performance engine. I also think you can overpower a plane also. I have ripped out more than my share of ailerons and elevators. I think the 3.2 With a larger slower turning prop is about all I want to try. Just my opinion----

Tomorrow, I'll learn if the ZDZ 40 is too much for my GP Pitts, at 15.1 lbs. My experience with this motor in other similar-built front ends is "no problem"....you can bet I'm gonna post all sorts of results of my test hops....can't wait!
BTW - my web site has my progress on this project, if you care to browse...http://www.rcaerobats.net/GP_Pitts/GP_Pitts.htm

It's been my experience to go with the highest power recommended by the designer/manufacturer...no more...and no less. With this rule of thumb, I've always been more than happy with the performance of my planes.

don't blame you for not wanting to rush it. but i have been waiting for this pipe for 4 weeks. and thats all i like to be abel to test mine. ( don't know how much heaver the stock pipe is to the slimline. don'want the cg to be off). but if you want to look at slimline go to www.slimlinemanufacturing.com. and i am sure thay have one for the zdz. i am puting a us 41 on mine. because that what i hade. if that don't fly it like i like i will pull it off and put something els.

i resd a thread where someone was using a us-41 & he barely got it off the ground, i am running a g-62 & did a lot of beefing up on the structure & it is awesome, i would not attempt to fly this bird with a us-41 just my .02 worth
