Default Tower Hobbies Kaos

Hi to all !

I have a OS 46 FX with a tuned pipe and a couple of servos sitting on the bench waiting for an airframe. I was looking into this airplane. Does it fly well ? Is the construction good ? Any feedback would be welcome !!

KiKe;

This airplane was a blast back in the 70's and is a blast to fly today. When I saw Tower had the Kaos, I was happy to order two of them!!! The 46 is a good match for this plane.
You will love this plane!!!

The Kaos is my favorite plane. It is an excellent ARF. Easy to build, and a good lightweight rugged construction.
As for flying, a 46 will fly it great (I have a Thunder Tiger 46 Pro in mine). Its price is also good, and I use all the hardware
including the tank and wheels that come with it. You are in for a treat!

Your piped 46 is going to do great!

From my post 12/16/2006:

**************
I did a build thread on this one about a year ago for our club. I found the construction of the airframe to be on par with other quality ARFs. I was impressed with the strength built in to it. (By the way, you will see a lot of this airframe exposed as you put some flights on it) In the air, it handled more stable than the original KAOS as the wing is a little larger. It does handle very nicely in the air. With adequate power, I found it good to practice the Sportsman Pattern. It is very aerobatic and fast for such a docile aircraft.

However, I have yet to see one of these with covering that works. My covering was sagging right out of the box. If you read the instructions, they tell you to seal the covering right out of the box. The pin striping material will be the first to exit the aircraft. Next the leading edge of the tail surfaces will be loose and flapping withing a couple of flights. For me the final straw was the leading edge on the wings.

I complained to tower. They sent me covering in response to my complaints. I would have gladly paid another $30 for an aircraft that was covered properly.
********************
By the way, if you would like to see a comprehensive, side by side comparison of the kit from the 1980s and the new Tower Kaos, go to this thread:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_37..._1/key_/tm.htm

Bottom line: I would gladly own another Kaos (and I do!)

Kike,

I have to agree with everyone else. The Kaos is a great flying bird (even though the covering leaves something to be desired.[:'(]) I had a YS53 four stroke in mine and it flew awesome. I've also flown my brothers Tower Kaos with an OS 50SX and it really hauled a___. A piped 46 on one should be a blast!!!!!!!!!! Go for it.

I have the Tower Kaos and have to second all the above. Mine had an OS 46FX and it flew great with an APC 12.25X3.75 prop. By now it must have several hundred flights on it. It was so well built(covering being the exception) that I often thought about putting a 61 two-stroke on it and just seeing if it would stay together. And really the only issue I had with the covering was the trim. The basic covering was not really an issue. What better use for all those old servos and unused 72Mhz receivers. I even left the canopy off for that extra speed

How would this model compare to the GP Escapade?

DenverJayhawk,

IMHO, there is really no comparison between the two. The Kaos was originally designed many years ago as a pattern plane with a tappered wing with very little dihedral. If my memory serves me right, the Escapade has quite a bit more dihedral and therefore I don't think it will fly nearly as well. If I had to choose between the two, I would choose the Kaos EVERY time.

How does that prop do on that Kaos? I'm needing something to slow mine down and was thinking of large diameter, low pitch.

Thanks guys for all you reply's !!! Based on your opinions, it is for sure a great option. The only drawback is the covering but can live with it.

Keep posting information please !! It is usefull and helps all !!

PS: Bob your thread about the assembly of the Kaos was outstanding. The pics give me a very good idea about the airplane. Good work buddy [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="font-size: 9pt">Glad I could be of help. The Kaos was my Mecca for years. I have recently acquired an old school Super Kaos. This is a 60 size machine with foam core, fiberglass sheeted wings. It has to be at least 30 years old based on the servo bays. There is no covering here. I sanded her and primed her for the current paint job. It makes me REALLY appreciate modern covering. I think I must have used about $50 worth of primer and paint. It has Rom Air tricycle retracts. The power is provided by a brand new, 25 year old Rossi 60 with a Macs exhaust system. She is heavy, but tracks straight and true. The engine is rated over 3HP and has no problem sustaining vertical flight for a respectable period. The Rossi recently completed it&rsquo;s break in and has been optimally tuned. Hopefully I will have time to fly it again soon.

You should do a build thread when you get your new Kaos.
