Default RE: Larger Revolver

On the first flight this morning with my Rev 59 (with an OS 914s) the plane started banking left, so I trimmed it right (though was surprised it needed to be re-trimmed). Next flight it's pulling even more to the left - looks to me like there's a problem. Landed it and see a now-familiar sight - the servo box was pulling out of the wing. Same problem I and a few others have had on the Rev 70. I re-anchored the engine boxes on both of my Rev 70's - now I'll need to do the same on my two Rev 59's. Just an FYI for any Rev 59 owners on this thread.

Man you are lucky... Good catch. I would imagine you had it loaded up in the turns eh?

Same exact scenario happened to me. I came out of snap roll and it took all of the trim and half the stick to get it to fly level enough to land it. Landed it a bit off the runway and ripped the gear out in tall grass. I reenforced it by soaking some epoxy (thinned with alcohol) in the cavity, laying down a thin piece of light ply on the bottom and then more epoxy on top of that. It would have to rip a good portion of the wing out now for it to come loose.

A word of warning on fixing those wing-servo boxes. I just discovered that the servo boxes on the Rev 59 wings are not as deep as those on the Rev 70's. So if you're adding a flooring (ceiling, actually) to it, just be sure it's thin. I just epoxied in a piece of 1/8" ply and discovered - as the 6 min epoxy was hardening - that the servo now did not fit cleanly into the box. Had to scrap away parts of the epoxy and an area of the board. On my second set of Rev 59 wings I may settle for a thin coat of epoxy, instead of adding a flooring.

very clean break as there wasn't much glue but the pants put holes and dents all over the plane.

WOW,...I am impressed ! ! This is the best fixer-upper I have ever seen anyone do. It almost looks like nothing happened. You really have to stare at it to notice anything. I am wondering,...Did you order the same color monocoke from Great planes. Because the monocoke patche colors blend in perfectly. I once had the same thing happen to me with my revolver 59 with the wing holes due to the wheelplants, but I bought a RED color monocoke similar in blend but not quite the same and you can tell they are not the same red. Great Job ! ! ! I learned a lot just from watching your fix ! ! I just came back from the airfield and my son and I had a great day. We flew the revolver 59, my new revolver 70 and my habu jet. All went well. I love how these two revolvers fly,.....

yeah the LHS had both colors in stock and the repair was about a week of me and/or my dad poking at it from time to time when we had time.

I was landing but sometimes this thing just floats forever....... I was about 2' off the ground at low idle and this thing refused to sink anymore so I thought I would let up on the elevator just a tad for just a split second and then grab it again but the second I even twitched it was like somebody turned on the ground magnets. it didnt touch down very hard but like you can see in the pics it only has what looks to me like a little bit of wood glue on two pieces of triangle stock and thats it. So my lapse in judgement plus a lack of epoxy/gluing surface equals a weeks worth of repairs. Oh well it was a good learning experience since we haven't really done much besides assemble arf's.

WOW,....Were you landing on grass. That's what happened to me with my little revolver. Came in too hot and dipped it to soon before she was ready and BAM ! ! !,..gear ripped right out. But it was a clean rip so it is now even better and more re-enforced than before. I should have re-enforced my revolver 70's landing area but now it is too late. I have a concrete runway so hard landings don't necessarily mean the gear will rip off as easily as it does no grass. So far so good ! ! Very happy to see you fixed and she it looks GREAT ! ! !

Airtime - welcome to the "Revolver gear-gone" club. I saw the same thing happen to my friend bringing in his Rev 59 - it took a slight porpose bounce on on the second hit - WHAM - front gear ripped RIGHT out and under, pushing the wheelpants - or wheel SPEARS - right through the wings. I've had gear rip out, too, but wasn't using the pants at the time, do just the "breaking and tearing" and none of the "spearing and stabbing".

btw - nice patch job! Very clean. Did you use Monokote or Trim? If Monokote, did you have to buy a 6' roll (like they sell on Tower)? In the past I used trim for patches, but have switched to monokote.

thanks and yes we have a grass field at our club, already put the new gear block to the test and its tougher than ever. as for the speed im going to go down in pitch on my prop to try and slow it down a bit. Does anybody think a 14x4 would be good in place of a 13x6? I like the speed and power im getting now but this thing just doesnt slow up as much as i need on final. The hobby stores here dont stock much for 13" props thats why I was thinking of the 14. I am running a strong os .61 fx.

I used monokote rolls, I think they were six feet but Ileft them at my dads house. As for the compliment thanks but most of the woodwork was done by my dad while I helped when Ihad time(3 and a 6 year old) but Ihave to take credit for the covering.

spoilerons are OK, but the R70 will settle with no bounce if you get her to slow down. Admittedly, it can be hard to do because the aiframe is so clean. Get a really low idle, and you will not have to worry about changing wing camber, either positive or negative, when you land.

Hold her a foot or two off the ground, bleeding airspeed, and then flare to the 3-point landing.

X1000

Get the airspeed down, and she won't bounce. A lower pitch prop will also work wonders in this dept.
