Default Scanner ?? Good or Bad ??

Hi there
I can get a Scanner for a really good price, but first i want to know if anyone ever flew one and what they think of it. Please, I would apreciate any inputs, since i dont want to spend money on a plane that doesnt fly well, or at all .... And if it does fly well, I dont want to miss this opportunity ... thanx

For the price this is a great plane, I'm on my 2nd one, I used a 46fx engine and a 11x6 prop and the plane is great. this is great for a 1st low wing plane or just something to throw in the car if you in a hurry. Very strong plane to, I land mine in a very rough horse paddock and it hasn't broken yet!

The scanner is a great plane for such a low price, as is reasonably well built despite being cheap. I flew it with a TT46pro 10X6 prop. It will do most aerobatics easily, flies inverted well, and it is fast. Landings are nice and stable, this plane does not stall very easily.

In fact, recently over here, a few of the locals have started getting the scanner (about 5 of them) and are racing with it every Sunday.

One more thing, before you buy it, do take it out of the box, and check through all the parts to ensure that the wood is in good condition. Occasionally, the ARFs from Vietnam come with lousy wood, I have actually seen one with the wood starting to rot. Other than that, you should not have any problems.

Thank you ... Ill definately look into it, buying the plane and looking out for the wood condition ... That was one of my other questions along with the stall speed ... Ill prob use a OS 46 FX in mine, cause thats the only propper engines easily availible here.

Thanx again ...

One last thing to watch out for during assembly is the balance, mine ended up being very nose heavy. The instructions recommend that the battery pack be placed under the fuel tank, but this means you cant remove it easily. So just keep that in mind when you build.

Have fun flying!!

I think a 600ma battery under the tank is ok. I used a 1000ma and this made it a little nose heavy. With a 46fx and standard servos mounting the battery directly behind the fuel tank is better.

I think the under fuel tank mount is when you use a 40LA or 32FX motor. The only problem I have ever had with the plane is snapping aileron hinges. This is rare and I'm the only one at the field that has had problems. But I like doing a snap spin into a vertial dive with full aileron and full rudder, the spin rate is great.

Hi there

I owned a Scanner ARF, great plane. The only drawback I found was because of it's small wing area it struggled to remain airborne if your engine failed.

Gun my man ... the Scanner is soooooo easy to bring in on a dead stick. I love to fly mine inverted slowly and then flop it over and over. Heheheeee ... Please make sure that you use tubing on the clevise, the clevise will get a little soft when its is soaking in castor, please change it if you can, its worth it.

Remember that the CG can be taken all the way back to 3" or even 3.25"without being twitchy. I am flying No. 3 now with a TT46, tuned pipe and a 11x6. The prop was pushing 14K RPM and I got decent amount of torque. I put my battery behind the tank when I was not running with a tuned pipe.

Its a great low wing trainer and no brainer. But you will get bored with it soon if you want to move on to precision flying. You can go from the Scanner to the WM Super Sport.
