Did flights 3,4 and 5 today! (7/12/03) With cowl installed, and changed prop from a 15/8 to a 16/5. I like the 15/8 better, although I could get it to hang on the 16/5 for a few seconds. The engine is getting broken in better, and I want to try the 15/8 again. I must be liking the way this bird fly's, as I ran it out of fuel in the air, the first 2 flights today! Not to worry, she "dead sticks" just fine. And no, I didn't try that last minute 360 either! I have more new pictures under "SMILES" on my web page!

Well, I gave in today . .
I went out and bought a YS 110. One of those new ones, to fit in my 540 Edge.
I was going to fit my Saito 100 in it, but the YS slipped off the counter of the local hobby shop, into my hand, and I had to pay for it, or end up in prison.
Shame eh?

I wanted to say thanks for all the pics. I really like this plane and the pics are making it harder to wait to buy 1.
Anyway I have a question for you. How do the wings mount on this plane? It looks like they slide on from the side. Do they then get screwed on the wing joiner????
Thanks very much.

Well, the skeeters down here in S.W. Florida will eat you alive this time of year, and I didn't feel like messing with the pants and trim, and swat skeeters at the same time. I just like flying this Baby! I've never been big on wheel pants though. To each his own. I'll stick the cowl trim on at a later date! Ha!
The wings each have a birch plywood joiner that meet together inside the fuselage, and are then bolted together firmly. They go in through rectangular openings on each side. It's different, but works very well. One of the things I like about Vector Flight, is that they're not afraid to try something different, rather than just copying everybody else. Once you deal with them, you'll see what I mean. They will contact you several times with questions about what you like and don't like about their planes, and use that information to re-design wherever necessary. A great company!

Isn't it great to deal with a company in this way? Everybody gains (including them, which I am all in favor of if they put themselves out for their customers, in the way they do)

Ditto!
Its been 3 years since I bought my first 300S from them. Its now retired but still strong and in great shape after several engines wore off on it! Not a wrinkle on the covering after 3 years! They sent me a free cowl after I broke mine on a perfect cartwheel landing!

Hi each,
Just a thought . .
On the Edge 540, how many degrees down and right thrust did y'all install?
I have bought a few of those neat thrust shims and, at the moment, have arranged 3 degrees down and 2 degrees right thrust..
Do you reckon that's about right?
. . Using a YS 110 (wonderful looking engine, incidentally!)

Well, I'll no doubt get hammered for this, but I just hate a crooked engine in any of my planes. I dislike not having the engine mount flat and firm against the firewall. I mount everything straight as an arrow, and haven't had to do any weird trims or anything out of the ordinary YET! I guess if you were into pattern flying, etc. you'd want all that degree stuff. I just FUN fly! Ha!

How does this puppy 3D? Think a .90 2s would give it enough "kick"?
Regards,
Philip
P.S. Having the correct engine angle has a dramatic affect on performance. I don't think it should be forgone at the sake of keeping everything "straight as an arrow."

They have changed their suggestions in recent instructions to 1-2 degrees right thrust and 0-1 degree down thrust.
I am using 2 degrees right and 1 degree down at first, until I have seen how she flies.
The YS 110 looks a mean engine!
