Hello everyone, first off I would like to start by saying I am not usually the type to bash or discredit a product. I am also a expert pilot with many different types of aircraft and years of flying experience (18 yrs to be exact)...currently in my hangar are a 1/4 scale GP Patty Wagstaff, GP Shoestring 60, H9 Miss America 60, GP Revolver, and a GP Supersport…all of which have been converted to electric. I have assembled many arfs from a range of manufactures. I am telling you this not to brag or anything like that but to let you know I am not new to this hobby. So let me begin with my build experience of the newly released H9 Blue Nose P-51. Upon initial inspection the aircraft seemed very nice and well put together. As I started my build I notice a few things that were not the best. First the aileron and flap covers were a pain to install because the plates they were to be fastened to was not in the correct place. This was a minor problem and an easy fix. My first real snag was with the retracts. Although touted as better than sliced bread mine had a binding issue that needed to be taken care of. In addition to this the wheel well on the left side is not center and as a result the wheel scrubs going in and coming out. My real problems though started with the tail wheel assembly. Absolutely substandard by all accounts. If you follow their directions and actually install the tail wheel doors there is no way to make adjustments once out at the field if it gets bumped out of alignment. Also, the setup is so flimsy that I will be surprised if it holds up to a takeoff and landing on a nicely groomed grass field. At this point I don’t know what I am going to do….I may just cut the control wire and have it caster freely. My biggest concern for quality though comes in the installation of the Power 90 electric motor. The ARF does not come with the required standoffs necessary to install the Power 90. The instructions tell you that a 20mm Power 90 adapter is required. I happened to have some 25mm stand-offs so I figured I would try those and see. Well after installing the 25mm standoffs in addition to the ones that come with the kit the motor is still not far enough forward. The spinner that is included in the kit does not work with the Power 90, as the spinner hold down screw is not long enough to reach the top of the prop shaft. So now I am stuck with trying to find a replacement screw and possibly even longer standoffs. I know I am ranting and raving but come on Hangar 9…..seems like all of your kits have issues. The Miss America that I built had retract problems as well….poor quality and retracts that broke if you mentioned a grass field. I have yet to call Hangar 9. I plan on giving them a ring on Monday as they are closed on the weekends. If I were you I would stay away from this kit. I would have to recommend the Top Flite P-51 as I have heard nothing but great things about their kits and quality. If any of you guys have any suggestions please offer them up as I am all ears. All of these problems are fixable but the point is I paid 319.00 for this kit and I would expect certain things to work…like if you say you can use a Power 90 well then I should be able to use a Power 90. Thanks for listening. I am sure if I can work through these issues the aircraft should fly nicely….we shall see….

On a side note I finally was able to maiden my GP revolver and am extremely pleased with it.....I am running 8S and a 12x10 prop. It is pulling 83amps and 2250 Watts on a Castle Creations ICE 100 and a Hyperion 4025 motor. The ready to fly weight is around 8lbs so I am getting around 280 Watts/lb. The prop spins at 13500RPM. The plane is ballistic to say the least. I was able to run for 6 minutes and went through 60% of the battery.

Wow, usually Hanger 9 puts out good stuff. I'm thinking they pushed the blue nose out in the market to quickly by popular demand, before fully test building and flying this aircraft? Sorry to read about your issue. I'm glad Horizon/Hanger 9 will work with you, most of the time they have been good to me.

Thanks....I was really surprised at all the little things that are wrong....the thing thats killing me is I have no way of attaching the spinner....I am going to need to find some sort of adapter to fit on the Power 90 prop shaft.....any of you guys have a Blue Nose with a Power 90?

Wow, Ray, I'm glad I read your post. My Bluenose is sitting in the work shop right now, I was just starting the build. I too have elected to install the Power 90... but I'm not sure how that's going to work now. I sent them an email asking about any product updates (it's too late to call now). Hopefully they have taken some action on these issues (especially the gear, there seem to be a LOTof complaints about that), and can send some updated/upgraded parts out.

My first tasks will be to reinforce the MLG and tail wheel boxes with 1/8^th inch ply, then cutout the engine mount for the Power 90. I&rsquo;ll do that monkey business tonight/tomorrow morning. I&rsquo;ll try to post some pictures. Someone posted a great fix for the weak tail wheel design &ndash; I&rsquo;ll try to dig up a link for that and post it here.</p>

UPDATE.....I sent an email to Horizon a week ago with no response....just sent off another. Maybe the last one was lost in the shuffle. Currently my project is on a month long hiatus as I am currently Deployed in the middle east again....hopefully I can straighten out the P-51 once I get back provided I get some response from Hangar 9. I am starting to think I should have went with the TF P-51 from Tower....and used a Hyperion motor instead. I put a Hyperion on a GP Revolver (40 size) and saw some amazing results....pulling over 2200Watts...not bad for a 7-8 pound plane....anyway G200flyer let me know if you figure anything out....

Solved motor mounting problem with a Hangar 9 motor mount (HAN4245). Used the template supplied in the kit for drilling. Plane flies great, definitely glad I reinforced the gear boxes.

I had a similar problem on one of my spits, namely that I oculd get a screw that fitted anywhere. I suggest that you get on e bay and look for M6 x 70 allen bolts (I think you call them socket heads?) That did the trick.

Hey guys, WOW, I guess I should have read the posts and reviews about this plane. It looks good and I thought, well it has to fly well.. Man goodness I was wrong... Let me explain ..

- I finally found a great H9 p51d with a DLE engine and all extras..
- I thought, what a great deal, after hearing about all the "good" features...
- After 14H total of work, I took the plane to the field, I asked my instructor (I have been flying for a couple of years) to take a look at it and fly it.

WOW, he was so disappointed about the performace, he was creeped out about how bad snaps in the air, he tried to make a loop, and we almost lost it..

There has to be a way to talk to H9 and have some sort of fix or something..

Does anyone know if this plane just doesnt do loops?

Any help, will be highly appriciated.

My friend has one with a DLE 20 & as yet it hasn't displayed any of the nasty habits described here.
He asked me whether people are making the wing a one piece as he has & also where is every one setting the cg.
His seems very stable & on the vid is landing in a cross wind hence the extra speed.
It's a shame people are having dramas with this model as it's a nice looking P51.

Quick update, I got the weight down to 11.5 pounds, I am in SLC (for altitude) . I have chanded the throws to 10 mil each, 50% expo. And., still does it. Anu help will ber GREATLY approciate it.

11.5 lbs is a lot for a 60/90 size plane. Its no wonder it wants to snap out, especially at your elevation. Is the model nose heavy? Does the elevator (trimmed for flight) show some "up" trim? If so, you might see if you can reposition some weight for a more nuetral balance. 10mm travel doesn't sound like a lot, but it can still be too much. It is a warbird model and will likely have best results set to fly like a warbird.

One other thing, are you using an appropriate size fuel tank? A 10 oz (or even 8oz) is all you need for the DLE 20. No sense in hauling excess baggage in the form of extra fuel.

DoNOT remove any nose weight. The airplane is acting like it is still tailheavy. Where is your balance point? For your first flights it should be at the forward CG of the stated range. Only after that should you slowly move it back if you want.

The plane right now is balanced at 120mm from the leading edge of the wing; the instruction booklet mentiones the range between 117 to 127 mm. My instructor wants me to remove the gear retracts and change them for spring airs, he hopes we can lose a pound by doing that. However, he is convinced that the air foil and design of the plane is a poor one. Gosh, I spend so much money on this plane!!

To be honest with all of you, I do not understand why this plane does that, I contacted a guy in Orlando who has posted a video in YouTube of his hanger 9 with a FG20, he says, his plane weight 12.6 pounds and it does not exhibit this violent snaps I am experiencing.</p><div>I took a video of the behavior of the plane for all you to see, I will post it on YouTube and update this thread with the link.

I solved the problem by, doing the following:

- I stripped the plane out, got the servos engine and all other parts,
- bought a new Top Flite P51 D.
- Sold the air frame.


I cant believe a company like hangar 9 would put out this type of rushed air frame. What is worse, I called them and asked the about the air foil, and wing type. No answer, I described th problem to them, send them a video about the problems in action,.. their answer, sorry we cant help you..

I tell you, this is the last time I buy a plane from them. Hope this helps..

That definately sounds like a solution!! Sorry to hear about your issues with H9. To be honest with you, I have been thinking of doing exactly the same as you, and I havent even maidened my BlueNose yet...It makes me so angry when thinking about the money I have spent....

Anyway, I remember you mentioning that you have a DLE 20. I also have one so will definately be interested to hear how your build goes with the TF kit. I have only heard good things about them so this may be what I end up doing.

Building the blue nose,has any one had problems with Elevator/Stabilizer holes not lining up.Looks like the elevator control horn slot is in the wrong position.
