My scale is only accurate to a half pound so I am hoping that it is closer to 11 lbs 8oz. The wing loading will still be fairly high compared to my electric planes. Is this plane 3D capable or more of a sport and pattern flyer?

below are the specs of my Sbach:
Wet weight: 5.7KG (12.5 lb)
1,600 mAh Lipo for the servos
1,300 mAh lipo for the iginition"& smoke pump
4x HD 90 Servos 1x HD120 for the rudder
8 amp Dual Sky Regulator
5amp regulator for ignition
Sullivan Onboard Smoke Pump
350cc smoke tank
Prop: Xoar 18x8
Idle RPM: 1,700 RPM
Max RPM: 7,800 RPM
Max static thrust: 7KG
All i have to say is that Ihave had this plane for nearly 2 years and its have never disapointed me with many flights under its belt everything is holding up pretty well. the smoke system tank is roughtly the same size as the stock fuel tank which gives me arounf 8mins of smoke.im using the stock muffler, which i wish i had a pitts installed but i was in my build.

Maidened my Sbach this morning. Landed all in one piece but not without a little bit of excitement. I accidentally hit the ignition kill switch when I move my left hand to adjust the elevator trim. Landed in the field next to the runway.

The Pilot RC 73' Sbach does NOT have a cannister/pipe tunnel. I wish it did. I have the Syssa 30cc in mine and it works great...but with a pipe it would be amazing!

I have had loads of dead sticks with the Sbach. and it floats down really well just make sure you keep the airspeed up. Ihave had some rough landings with my Sbach and the landing gear has managed to hold up really well. due to the extra reinfrcments pilot-rc has designed on thier planes.

Got mine from Chief. Made modifications and Installed the Omega canister and flex header From 3Dhobbyshop and a DLE 30 One of the easiest Engine installs I have ever done the 26% Sbach was designed for the DLE 30cc with the stand offs the rear carb version come with photo's incl. Also added a Swivel head Pilot Helmet Head pilot figure turned into swivel head pilot figure Check it out

I bought the pilot figure from Chief Aircraft. made by Hangar 9 25 28% red/whit/blue Helmet Head pilot then I took it apart and installed a servo in the head and the servo wheel in the body. took a couple 6 packs to do the R&D LOL !!! Here is a video link of the first flight of the Sbach.Ready to fly weight 10 lb. 8oz prop is a Xoar 19-3D A High Idle 7400rpm I love doing tail touchto landings, after getting use to theplane.

I got a few flights in with the Sbach today. On the last flight I had to make a dead stick landing. The engine cut out after just a few circuits. I swear I can land this thing better dead stick than I can under power. Anyway, I had rotated the gas tank so that the stopper was facing the tail. This was done so that I could move this Rx batteries forward more to balance the CG. I had one of the guys look over my plane and he said to turn the tank back around. The way I had it position the clunk was likely to pull in air bubbles when the nose was tilted up. As soon as he said it I realized what I had done. Hopefully I will get to test it out tomorrow.

I maidened my SBach yesterday, finally. All went well, got her back after two flights, all in one piece. Found I am tail heavy. After the first flight, I moved the LiFe batts forward as far as I could and still was tail heavy. I will have to add some lead on the engine box for the next flights. Rearward CG sure helped the plane land super slow! Very nice looking plane, lots of compliments at the field. I think it will be one of my faves after I get the CG and further trimming worked out. Here is a pic at the field. Always take lots of pics before a maiden, lol! Jon

The Sbach in this color scheme is a truly gorgeous looking plane. I had a rough landing with mine not long ago that required a rebuild of the landing plate area and the wing tube area. It has been fixed for a few weeks but I've been a bit gun shy about flying it.

Don and Dennis, GREAT minds think alike, haha...yes, I love this color scheme and it went over big at the field yesterday. Honestly, when I was choosing the color scheme, I thought the plane looked good in the ads, but was not sure about my choice until I opened the box. Orange and purple sound gaudy when you say it, but this scheme has enough white and tasteful shapes that the plane is just stunning in person.
Dennis, my CG is real close to the rear of the wing tube using my calibrated finger tips, lol, but this is with the 4 ounces of lead I just added to the engine box. I thought I was very close to that location before adding the lead, so that shows how good my finger tips work. I was sad to add 4 ounces today after getting some one ounce weights at the local sporting goods store. That should bring my AUW to 11 3/4 pounds.
When I flew the plane yesterday, it flew very light to me. I tried some hovering and it was pretty decent and easy for the first try, and with that tail heavy CG. Also did some attempts at harrier rolls and it was again pretty decent for a first attempt, so I think the plane will be good for 3D training for me and for pattern style of flying that I tend to try to emulate.
Gotta post another pic:

I chose the color scheme because I figured it would be very visible even on cloudy days. I have several blue and white planes that look great on the ground but are hard to see in the air. I was really surprised how good it looked when I unboxed it.

Started my motor for the first time since it started getting warm outside. It was probably 50F-55F last time I started it and it was originally tuned when it was about 40F. It's about 80F today and humid. Oddly enough it wasn't running right.

Don, I looked back and didn't find what engine you are using? My DLE-30 is brand new and probably running a little rich on the factory settings, but it started, idled, and stayed running nicely. Spitting out a little black. Will fiddle to lean it out a bit. Jon

Did anyone open the vent holes in the bottom of the plane? I'm not using a canister muffler... but was thinking on maybe cutting them openfor added vent.

I have a DLE-30. The carb will be set and forget once I get it tuned again. I suspect it is a bit too lean since it was tuned when it was basically winter.

I'm curious what others have used for elevator servos...what does each servo weigh? Mine are 2.1 oz. If I could go to a 1.5 oz servo, that would be an ounce less in the tail, and perhaps 3 oz less on the firewall needed to balance that. Finding a MG servo that light might be a challenge, I know. Jon

I flew the Sbach yesterday with about 4 oz of lead on the engine box and it helped a lot, but the plane is still a little tail heavy. Today I added another 2 oz and I think that should be just about right. Also, my plane was tucking to the LG on right knife edge yesterday, so I am programming in a little up elevator with the left rudder. The plane stays straight enough on left KE. Looking forward to trying these adjustments out real soon. Jon
On 4/29 I flew it again and while the 6oz helps, I think it still might need a couple more. The mixing of elev to rudder helped a lot to make KE straighter. I might have a problem with the servos not centering well enough, especially with the long servo arms the issue is emphasized. Might just toss in some different ones to see if it is the issue. Jon

Great shot of your Sbach. I've got the same color scheme and it is simply a beautiful looking plane! The alignment of your spinner and your cowl makes me curious if mine somehow got down thrust in it. Mine tends to balloon on landings. I'm told this could be from too much down thrust.
