Hello,
Could someone be kind enough to get a all up weight with the DLE 20 with an equipment list. Awesome little plane!
Also, its easy to save weight and the complication of ignition batteries using the IBE units from syssa or wilke and run the whole plane on one battery.

test ran the motor last night, sounds good. thinking I may have to add a little reinforcement to the sides of the motor box as the is a little flex when blipping the throttle, built up very light and I think will need to be addressed for durability in the long run.

I was wandering about that. I might add a ply frame in the top opening, cutting out all but about 1/2" all around

Mine arrived today, while the box looked like the delivery driver used it for a step stool, I photographed removing each layer until I got all the pieces out and the internal packing prevented any damage to the airplane itself or any of the contents of the box.

What a georgous plane, I can't wait to get this one to the field, I think I'm going to need to hand out drool towels.

I will post pics of my gussets and the doublers I made this evening. I believe it will strengthen it considerably.

test flight was a non event, 2 clicks of aileron trim and she was hands off. very neutral in all aspects of flight. with a little more runtime on the dle and it will be a real powerhouse.

will get a all up weight on mine tonight, batts are a 2/3aaa 720 NiMh on ignition and 2150 2s lipo with dual regulator powered of of one batt. plane os a winner though.

Could you post some pics of the areas you beefed up for the larger engine? I am considering this as my next project with the DLE and wouldn't wantto lose an engine during flight!!!

I will pull the cowl off and take some pics today. basically what I did was cut 4 triangular gussets that are glued to the outside of the motor box at near the top and bottom of the sides, these are about an inch wide and extend forward to the firewall. then on the insides I cut 1/8" lite ply doublers about 6 inches long that are glued on the inside of the box from the firewall back, this required removal of the triangle stock that was installed and was replaced after gluing in the doublers.

I just finish the Great Plane Christen Eagle today and now going for the Hangar 9 Eagle. It is a fun bird to put together. I too will be going with the DLE 20 motor in the bird. So I will be following this thread.!!!

I'm thinking of glow on this plane.

Give my opinions on either an OS 120 AX or the Saito FA-125. I'm NOT looking to 3D this plane.

Mine is getting the Saito. I dont see why it wouldn't be more than enough power for this plane.

Take a look at the pictures of my shipping box and plane box. My heart just drop. When I saw the shipping box, I just knew I would not be happy!! Open the shipping box and saw the same hole in the arf box. Not good!!!![:o][:o] Open the kit box and I was shock!!![X(][X(] No damage to any thing!!! The wings was on the bottom of the box!!! If they had been at the top, like I have seen on many arf kits I have receive, they would have been trash, all four panels. Still thinking of going gas on this bird, but I also like the OS 1.20FS
Can not wait to start the build. Baby brother is still waiting for a good day to be maiden!!

I know that feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you see a damaged box.Then that sigh of relief when you open it to find you lucked out. I'm in the same frame of mind as you. I have either a Saito 125 blacknight or a DLE 20 to choose for power. Either one will be a great match for this plane. :D :D

I'm looking to pick one of these up this spring to put my saito 1.30 twin on. May not be a power house but it will look and sound sweet and should fly very scale like. Can somebody take some measurements of the firewall? I'm looking for the width as well as the height on the out side edges and center. The 1.30 already has a mount on it and I'm wanting to see of I'm going to have to modify the firewall any to make it work.

From the sides, its 91mm bottom to top and 135mm wide

The top of the firewall is an arch that reaches about 110 to 112mm at the center.
