NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Has anyone else seen the new Christen Eagle ARF offered by Hangar 9 ? I was hoping they would import the one from Seagull, but this looks just as good. Website is showing a mid November release date. All these NEW great looking planes, I just can't help myself!! :) :D

RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Looks like it can be set up for glow or electric. Wingspan 54'' 800+ sq. in. wing area, 8 1/2 to 10lbs flying weight. I'm guessing it would be a great fit for a DLE 20 for power with that huge cowling. It also looks like it has plug in wings for easy transportation. I just sold my 1/3 scale GP Eagle, looks like this will be in my hangar next. :)

RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Now we know why they wouldn't import the seagull. I bet its a rebranded/reworked Seagull with the H9 badge on it? Specs look very very similar. Nice looking Eagle. Glad they took the time to do the actual 8 color scheme on it, and not the normal boring 4 color scheme. Great job Horizon!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
A few months back I e-mailed customer support and asked if they planned on importing the Seagull kit. The reply was that Horizon had something very similar in the works, and to keep checking the web site for updates. I guess this is what they were referring to. I'm sure it will be worth the wait!!

RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
A nice juicy Pitts special would have been better.
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
BH Models makes a Pitts that is a little bigger than the Eagle and it is also a beautiful kit. I have the Eagle on back order, and the BH Pitts in the build queue.
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
The BH Pitts is no longer on the menu at Hobby People. They had a killer deal on them back in the summer. Don't know what happened.
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Alright guys the UPS guy delivered my Eagle. Looks really good, the covering job is fantastic. I will post pics when time permits. Overall impression I'm very happy with it. Should be a great match with the Saito 120.:D
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Handyman,
How are you comming on the BH Pitts? Is there a build thread on it? I have one in the box that I have a magnum 180 just waiting to get assembled. R.L. Cub brother #31 |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Cubcrasher, mine is also still in the box. There is a thread on RCU search( Re:Why no love for the Pitts S1???) I don't know why the kit didn't get more of a response, it really is a beautiful plane. There is also a thread in RCGroups

RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
I picked up my eagle the other day. It looks great except for the top of the turtle deck. has some ridges from when they bent the balsa over it, but it is not bad enough to worry about. Will not get to start on the build until after the new year. I am thinking of a DLE 20 for power but have a Saito .125 already so just have to make up my mind. Will be watching for any build tips that show up on here.

RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
lets see some pictures of those Eagels please

Finally getting around to installing the DLE 20. It will fit completely inside ofthe cowl wit just the tips of the pipes and possably the plug wire.
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
I was going to install a Saito 120 in mine, but after seeing yours I might have to rethink my options!

I finally got the cowl on. I am happy the way it turned out, might have to baffle the air to cool the engine. I did open up holes like the full size, hoping that it will be enough cooling.
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Looking good. I like what you did. :D
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Bob, that looks great. I am fired up about this because I was wanting this plane but with a gas engine and didn't really want a Saito 4 stroke gasser. Now, to find out how it performs!!!
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Bob,
Could you post some pics of the underside of the cowl to show exactly how you cut the cowl? Also, which brand of muffler are you using? Thanks. |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
RCU is getting one for review, I should be getting it shortly, I'm very excited, I always loved the looks of this plane.
We are using the recommended nitro setup on it with the Saito engine. |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
I will post a picture lookig at the bottom tomarrow as tonight would not be good with the boss;) The pitts muffler is the compact JTec but there is plenty of room for the regular one.

RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
eagerly awaiting test flight results, my DLE will be delivered today and can't wait to get it installed. hoping to fly it this weekend, weather permitting. where did you have to place the batteries to get it to balance.
Kevin |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
I have not installed the batteries yet. It is balanced at 4 7/8" now so should nothave any problem getting it ballanced ok. Will have to wait for my first flight, went to the flying field oday and there is about 5" of snow onthe runway.
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
my DlE arrived today and I mounted it this evening, the whole plane feels so light after I got it all installed, will test run it tomorrow night.
Kevin |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Hello,
Could someone be kind enough to get a all up weight with the DLE 20 with an equipment list. Awesome little plane! Also, its easy to save weight and the complication of ignition batteries using the IBE units from syssa or wilke and run the whole plane on one battery. Cheers, Carl |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
test ran the motor last night, sounds good. thinking I may have to add a little reinforcement to the sides of the motor box as the is a little flex when blipping the throttle, built up very light and I think will need to be addressed for durability in the long run.
Kevin |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
I was wandering about that. I might add a ply frame in the top opening, cutting out all but about 1/2" all around
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Mine arrived today, while the box looked like the delivery driver used it for a step stool, I photographed removing each layer until I got all the pieces out and the internal packing prevented any damage to the airplane itself or any of the contents of the box.
What a georgous plane, I can't wait to get this one to the field, I think I'm going to need to hand out drool towels. |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
I will post pics of my gussets and the doublers I made this evening. I believe it will strengthen it considerably.
Kevin |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
test flight was a non event, 2 clicks of aileron trim and she was hands off. very neutral in all aspects of flight. with a little more runtime on the dle and it will be a real powerhouse.
will get a all up weight on mine tonight, batts are a 2/3aaa 720 NiMh on ignition and 2150 2s lipo with dual regulator powered of of one batt. plane os a winner though. Kevin |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Good to hear that all went well. Can't wait to get rid of some snow around here.
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
seflyer-
Could you post some pics of the areas you beefed up for the larger engine? I am considering this as my next project with the DLE and wouldn't wantto lose an engine during flight!!! |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE

I will pull the cowl off and take some pics today. basically what I did was cut 4 triangular gussets that are glued to the outside of the motor box at near the top and bottom of the sides, these are about an inch wide and extend forward to the firewall. then on the insides I cut 1/8" lite ply doublers about 6 inches long that are glued on the inside of the box from the firewall back, this required removal of the triangle stock that was installed and was replaced after gluing in the doublers.

RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Hi All,
I just finish the Great Plane Christen Eagle today and now going for the Hangar 9 Eagle. It is a fun bird to put together. I too will be going with the DLE 20 motor in the bird. So I will be following this thread.!!! Sonny aka jet22b |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
I'm thinking of glow on this plane.
Give my opinions on either an OS 120 AX or the Saito FA-125. I'm NOT looking to 3D this plane. Thanks Kerry p.s. Please don't give me a bunch of reasons why glow is so horrible. |
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
not much chance of 3d'ing a Christen Eagle. either of those power choices would be fine.
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
Mine is getting the Saito. I dont see why it wouldn't be more than enough power for this plane.
|
RE: NEW HANGAR 9 CHRISTEN EAGLE
ORIGINAL: seflyer not much chance of 3d'ing a Christen Eagle. Doesn't mean people won't try! :D I just wanted to say that I'm not looking to grossly overpower it. Thanks Kerry |

BarracudaHockey,
Take a look at the pictures of my shipping box and plane box. My heart just drop. When I saw the shipping box, I just knew I would not be happy!! Open the shipping box and saw the same hole in the arf box. Not good!!!![:o][:o] Open the kit box and I was shock!!![X(][X(] No damage to any thing!!! The wings was on the bottom of the box!!! If they had been at the top, like I have seen on many arf kits I have receive, they would have been trash, all four panels. Still thinking of going gas on this bird, but I also like the OS 1.20FS Can not wait to start the build. Baby brother is still waiting for a good day to be maiden!! Sonny aka jet22b |
