RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
Hey Serge,
I think your site hijacked this thread! :) I like the way the model is in the correct position for, um, adjusting the needle valves. Remember kids, you should always be behind the prop! Great site, Serge. |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
well, my Christen Eagle is ordered :D. I just couldn't resist any longer (wife will probably kill me [X(]). Next I will order the DA-50 and a Slimline muffler for it. Not sure if I want smoke. Might just add to much weight. Don't now yet. Hmmm...maybe the Slimline Showtime Smoke Pro pump, or the Sullivan SkyWriter. What do you guys think ? Will the smoke tank fit right on the CG ?
Another question I have is about the firewall: I always read that people pin the firewall on the GP Pitts. Do you mean the box, or actually the firewall to the fuse or both ? Any ideas, comments or pictures on this ? Also, is it necessary to glass the firewall and box on this one. What will be your servo choice for this bird ? I am thinking JR 2721's on ailerons and rudder, 4721's on elevators and 531's on throttle and choke. How many batteries will you guys be using ? 2 for radio equipment and 1 for ignition, or just 1 for the radio equipment and 1 for ignition ? I think if using smoke, I might need a second radio equipment battery to supply sufficient power with all the high torque equipment. Not sure yet. |

A friend of my father, Ralos, took us to make a tour of the area. We visited Sea world, the army shopping center and the city. There was no water in the san diego river. Totally dry! I Liked the trip a lot. Very different world. Serge :D:D:D |

That 'model' is Claire Morgane, and adult 'actress' from France who works for one of the people associated with PL Products in his real job.

I guess I'm helping to send this thread even further off topic, but here is PL products page with more photos of Serge's avatar
[link=http://wb032.lerelaisinternet.com/htfr/index%20maj4.htm]PL Photos[/link] Just to keep this slightly on topic I am very interested in the Christen Eagle Bipe. I would love to hear about the flight reports. A friend has the Pitts with a ZDZ 40 It will fly IMAC but I wouldn't call it unlimited power. I am very curious to see engine/flight performance info. In the states of Ga, SC, NC, and Al, those girls would be arrested for doing that with, around, or near an airplane-----Let me call my wife in here and see what she thinks......."Oh Dear, could you come here for a minute and look at this"

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
Planning on buying an Eagle for Christmas, will finally have a home for my G-62, that was on a Stinger.
I will send the engine to rc ignition to refine it, and reinforce the mounting box. Also use a heavier multispring tail wheel mount to add some weight to the tail. David |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
Texas 3D;
Read The Pitts thread. It has most of your questions in it. I'm using HITEC 5625's all the way around on mine. The DA is also covered in the Pitts thread and you will probably haver to do the same. Cut out the bottom of the box, reinforce with tri stock and fiberglass. Also you pin by drilling through the side wall and into the firewall and insert wood or metal dowels with epoxy. I just found that my top wing center section is covered upside down so that blows[:o]. But Tower is sending a top wing as we speak. Depending on which batteries you intend to use will determine how many. The only servo load will be the Ailerons so you might want to get either the FUtaba or JR MAS-10 servo sync. Or run the L side on 1 and the R side on 6. I'm using a single battery(Duralite Plus 4000ma!). This plane is small enough not to require 2 rx or batts. |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
Looks like the Eagle is a winner. Here is a thread under 'gas engines' on installing the DA-50 in the G.P. Pitts. Maybe this will save you some time since the planes are so similar. The mounting box on the Eagle apparently is shorter than the Pitts box. I found the stock stand off spacers with the DA 50 too long for the Pitts. DA also makes short spacers 1 5/16" but think they will be too short. Aerografix helped me with custom made 1 3/4" spacers. Here is Roger Forgues website if you need it. Sure helped me.

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
HAHAHAHA! OWNED serge!
That's my plane, and my photo. Gotta love one-upmanship;) |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
Just picked up my Eagle from the Hobby Shop. Very impressive plane - the construction is great and the covering is fantastic. The wheels pants are very solid, and the foam wheels seem strong enough for an 18 pound plane. The control surfaces are a little smaller than I expected, so I may not end up using 9202s on the ailerons - 9001s should be enough. Looks like plenty of room inside for my smoke system ;) .

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
Ryan,
Do you know what engine you will be using in it? Do the directions recommend any particular gas engine and setup? |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
So anybody flying one already of have it finished ?
How did it balance, assemble, hardware OK, etc. ? Still waiting on mine to come in [:o], but should be here tomorrow ;) |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
I've started assembly on mine - so far have installed the landing gear, cabane struts, and some of the metal wing brackets. I also pinned the firewall with the supplied 1/8" dowel. The hardware all looks usable but I will be getting Robart hinge points instead of using the supplied CA hinges. A nice touch is the inclusion of heat shrink tubing to use on every servo connection. The cabane struts ended up not aligning in the center, so I redrilled the front holes for better alignment.
I have an FPE 3.2 engine on the way and a TME smoke system to install later. Servos will be Futaba 9001 on the ailerons, 9202 on the elevators, and 9206 on the rudder. I'm sure 9001s would be plenty on the elevators but I'm going to set them up with 3D rates to see if the plane is capable of any 3D. I was planning on using 9202s on the ailerons but after seeing them in person, I'm sure the 9001s will be more than adequate. |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
The pictures look great...very nice color scheme.
Drool... <Grin> |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
The plane looks even better in person than in the pictures - I just can't get over how nice the covering scheme is. I'm going to dress mine up just a little by replacing the supplied decals with vinyl ones, and adding some full scale logos like Lycoming, Champion, Hartzell, etc. Those logos plus the smoke should really make the plane an airshow star.

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
The instruction describe setting up the aileron servos with a Y connector for each wing , and using a Y connector to connect both wings into one channel. I am using a 9C radio, so it might be possible to run each servo on a separate channel. However, I want to run smoke as well so that option is out. I didn't want to use two channels (one for top and one for bottom) because I wouldn't be able to set any differential, so here's what I came up with:
The top wing will be on a Y-harness, so I'll mechanically set the top servos for slightly more up travel than down. For the bottom wing, I'll be running flaperon mixing (two channels) so I'll be able to fine tune the aileron differential using the lower ailerons. I will then mix the aileron channel to an aux channel and plug the top wing into the aux channel. This setup uses three channels for the wing, allows fine tuning of the aileron differential, and gives me an open channel for smoke. Perfect! |

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
how about the down and right thrust for the engine ? Is it build in the firewall / engine box, or do we have do this manually ? Just wondering so I can see what engine stand offs I need for the DA 50.
OK, my servo choice is set and purchased : Ailerons: JR 4735's Ruder : JR 2721 Elevator : JR 2721's Throttle : JR 531 Choke : JR 531 Do not trust Hitecs servos for this Baby due to some centering problems I have had in the past. With all those High torque and high speed servos I might use two 1650 NIMH 6V batteries for radio operation, and either NICAD 1800 mah 6V battery for the ignition or a NICAD 1100 mah 4.8V depending on how it will balance. |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
Engine thrust is built into the firewall. I am considering using a 2700 Nimh pack for the receiver and 1100 Nimh pack for the ignition, and JR heavy duty switches. I got my FPE 3.2 in the mail today - have not looked into standoff length yet. Hopefully I won't have to move the firewall back.
|
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
Ryan, I am curious what "Heavy duty JR switch" you are going to use? Here is the JR Deluxe switch I mounted in my Pitts and just wanted to check and see if there is a "heavy Duty" switch option you are referring to.
