RE: GP <span class=
hilleyja,
The Fuji 50 will fly the CE just fine. I have one in my GP Pitts, it doesn't have unlimited vertical, but its good enough for my flying. I did a static thrust check the other day and got 18.5 - 19 lbs @ 6900 rpm. The plane weighs approx 18 lbs. |
RE: GP <span class=
Ulf,
Thanks I was planning on cutting her down. I hope to have it all set up for a maiden this weekend. I need to mount the DA and ignition and then set up the rx. And then get ready to go have some fun with this thing. |
RE: GP <span class=
Friend of mine will be powering his 1/3 Pitts with a Fuji 50 on CH Ign. I have no doubt it'll be a good performer.
Personally, I have no 3D aspirations for my CE, so the Poulan 46cc should do just fine. |
RE: GP <span class=
What are the particulars of your static thrust check? What prop? How much time on the engine?
Did you have to add the shorter hub for the Pitts? Anyone out there know a source for the optional hub other than Tower (they are backordered till March)? |
RE: GP <span class=
hilleyja,
It was a Pro-Zinger 20x10. Not sure how much time, but about 2.5 gal burned. It was around 67 deg. and about 85% humidity. I am using the prop shaft that came with it. The back of the spinner is about 1/4 inch or so ahead of the cowl. From the front and when flying you can't tell that it sticks out. One of our LHS has the short shaft for 64.95 here is the link to the shop http://www.hobbiesandgames.net/ and to the page with the part http://www.hobbiesandgames.net/shop/...nt=25&catid=77 Also if you think you might be using the Fuji 64 in the future, it comes with the short shaft and you could swap them. |
RE: GP <span class=
Thanks for the info. I ordered the shaft from your source. If you have a local relationship with the vendor be sure to tell him you referred me.

I had a Fuji 50 in a Pitts and did use the short hub extender that comes with the 64. Fit perfectly so I had about 1/8 " clearance between the cowling and the spinner. The CE measurements are most likely a bit different that the Pitts, but the short shaft is an option. If you use the 64 hub extender make sure you also get the prop bolt. The threads are different between the 50 and the 64 hub extenders. Fuji may have resolved this by now, but this is what I had to do to get mine to work. Pictures are of Pitts-1 with the Fuji engine. Like NavyE6FE said, this engine flew the plane just fine. I lost it in a bad crash and putt a DA 50 in Pitts-II. The DA vibrates a bit more than the Fuji. Guess the big flywheel on the nose of the Fuji helps with this.

RE: GP <span class=
Has anyone thought about a MOKI 2.10 for this Eagle. I got a new one at the last swap meet and it is looking for a home. I know gas is cheaper but I already have a MOKI and don't have a 50cc gas. What do you think?
|
RE: GP <span class=
Good combo, mater of fact it is sold by Chief Aircraft as a bundle to the CE.
I already have an Aeroworks X300L Giant Profile with a Moki 180. I'm looking to use a gas on my next giant scale. |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
I just piked up my Christen Eagle literally, FedEx Ground couldn't find my house so I drove 45 min. to their depot.
I am powering it with a ZDZ 60 and would like to get some recommendations for a smoke system and muffler combination. Thanks Stephen |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
I picked mine up last night from the local UPS office. They had been trying to deliver it to my old address for the last 3 days. Luckily I questioned J&C Hobbies and then started to track it down. I beat UPS by one night -- they were going to ship it back to the sender. After slapping J&C Hobbies' hands and making sure they had my address right for the next order.
I will continue this thread with my building experiences because it looks like the Fuji BT-50SA has not been documented that much. |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
Jim, you should be able to find a good bit of info on this engine. You mention that you have the SA model. This is the first model if I'm not mistaken. If so, I had the same engine in Pitts-I with good success. The engine flew my Pitts very well. In fact, it had less vibration than the DA 50 I have in Pitt's-II. The only thing I experienced with this engine that I had trouble with was that it was difficult for me to flip start. I never got the hang of it. I used the Megatron two handled starter by Sullivan and that solved this issue 100%. Starter is a dream. I used the 24 volt configuration with two 12 volt batteries. Unbelievable starting power. I used a Pro Zinger 20X8 prop. Also used the stock spinner, but quickly found that the brackets failed with the starter. Too much torque for the brackets. I had the prop bolt drilled and threaded so I could use a True Turn spinner adapter. This solved the problem so I could use the stock spinner. I also had to cut the spinner for prop clearance. Would also recommend using a Zenoah velocity stack on the carb. Roger Yarrish did this in the MAN review on the Pitts with the Fuji 50. It does make choking the engine easier.

RE: GP <span class=
Also Chief Aircraft has some decent pilots!!!!!

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
I second that. Serge, your website is one of the very best I have seen. Very informative and I love the pics. I like the way the photos shows how an ARF kit contains inside a package, neat ! keep it up !

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
IMHO I would think the fact that you are going to use 24 volts is the answer. Should provide similar torque as the Megatron, I would think. Mine didn't hold up well at all after I applied the Megatron. It actually broke the brackets at the rivets. I would give it a try just to see if it will hold. If not, get someone to tap your prop bolt and then use the True Turn adapter. It works much the same way as you would when mounting a Dave Brown or True Turn spinner with the bolt going through the middle of the spinner into the adapter. This is just like say on a 160 or similar. This mod worked out perfect for me. Had no problems with it after this minor mod. Using the short Fuji 64 hub extender, the spinner bolt I used was 3 and 1/8" long, number 10 size or 24/32.

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
RFW do you get any interference from the magneto on the throttle servo?

r180reef - Didn't when I had this airplane. I had second thoughts about doing this as well, and did much research on this and discussed with others. You probably already know this, but let me stress doing range checks with the engine running and off to be sure. I also had a Simple smoke system in This model and now in Pitts-II, As mentioned, I aligned the throttle servo with a choke servo in Pitts-II just behind the tank on a servo tray. Now the electronic ignition for the DA is on the box in the same location that I had the throttle servo on Pitts-I. Below is a picture.
Jim, correction on the above post about using a True Turn adapter. This was incorrect. Sorry about that. I had the prop bolt tapped and threaded so the above mentioned spinner bolt could thread right into the prop bolt. No adapter needed. Keep in mind, this was on the Pitts so on the CE the lengths may be a bit different. Please excuse my error on this. I thought about it after I went to bed last night and was think about this and realized I had made this mistake. Again, this solution really did work well in solving the spinner bracket issue with the stock spinner. |
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
i have a christen eagle 2 as well and she is a great plane. never flown her but she is fully done.... still lookin for the ultimate engine to put in her. but that comes in time... the engine that was in her was clocked at 250 miles per hour... i really want to get that engine back.... anyways msg me if you want to see pics of her done up...
keep building guys and ladies.... |

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
This is good news. When I had originally purchase mine they didn't provide this option. Sounds like they are trying to think about things to make it easier for us.

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
I've modified a couple of these GP 4" spinners to work with the more traditional spinner nut system. I just grind off the two rivets holding the "V" bracket on the backplate, and use a threaded spinner nut to receive a long spinnet bolt to hold the cone on tight. Just remember to use a spinner nut with 8x32 threads, as 10-32 socket head bolts are too large to go through the cone.
|
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
I just tossed my spinner out and bought a new Tru Turn Ultimate spinner. Looks much nicer too.
|
RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
Next time, let me know before you toss it out. I will take it off your hands.:)

RE: GP CHRISTEN EAGLE
What is the empty weight of just the airframe (no engine, no servos, no fuel system, no harware)?
Thanks, Ryan |
