The $23.99 Futaba S3010 servos have more than enough torque at 4.8 volts for all control surfaces on the UCD 60, including the rudder. They are slightly taller than the standard S3004's, fit in the same mounts and weigh only a tenth of an ounce more.

Well I flew my Ucando today. I was pretty content with the airplane but I have a brand new YS 110 and its running a little rough. Two dead sticks but it does have a good bit of power. I just need to make some adjustments on the engine, also I ripped the tailwheel off on the second landing. I had put a Sullivan assembly on but the screws pulled right out the balsa. No bid deal I will put some 1/8 ply. I feel that these is going to be a good airplane. Hovers very easy, but it couples to the belly pretty bad in knive edge flight.

Best prop for 110 YS for this airplane?

Im using a APC 16x6 and at time's a APC 16x4w..but the 16x6 is best ....I think apc just came out with a 17x4w That my be the prop you want....JW

Totally o.k.:D...I'd got a pretty good idea what ya ment ..never actually herd that one before...excelent..!:) thing is...we managed to ....well....' keep out of sight.'....yeah !...thats the best way of putting it , a few 'Odds and ends...' over the winter but now all this hardware has gone together...errr ....she may be starting to notice.....hellllpppppp..! It's all Peters stuff really...honest your honour... see if ya can I.D ..specifically.. theses two new wing sets from Peters inventory..:)

What a clown.!..i forgot to tell ya what i came her for...dont know wether you can get these but ..bought a SWITCHABLE " voltspy 2 " yesterday, like the voltwatch thing from Tower but with a tiny, tiny switch to get ya from 4.8v to 6v...not seen/was'nt aware of such an annimal ....o.k. if ya runnin a 5 cell set up;) TTFN

hi fellas.

Good news .i'm finally got my u-cando on the table and am about ready to start on it.Its not that i'm slow,which i am.i had 3 planes that were in various stages of readyness and just had to finish them first,needed the table space.Between this week and next ,i will be putting maidens on 3 planes;big bingo with a bgx3500 ;a robinhood 80 with a remmington 2.0 gas and a gp spacewalker with a os 70 surpass.
i've been busy guys but the ucando is finally next.Thanks to all your very informative threads, i expect very few problems and have all my material on hand.Although i'm not a 3-d pilot, (yet).I will be practicing hovers and a few others .I've been practicing hovers on my sim but still haven't grasped it as yet.What the secret guys.
The next couple of days will be spent doing dry runs and control adjustment on my newly completed planes.Now i just need the warm weather and clear skies.We even had snow flurries today,yuk.Ideally for me ,i expect maiden on the ucando 1rst week in june or close there to.

It's actually a Irvine product distributed by Ripmax, but SMC stock the @ .... www.Sussex-model-centre.co.uk .. Ripmax do a couple of variations on the theme... www.ripmax.com...( these things are suitable for NiMh's too )

Lord, if that camera used standard film, you wouldn't be able to afford this hobby. Nice crisp images.

Gentlemen, just finished up the cowl with the motor and mount, now, in the correct position. Still don't know how I missed that one. With the cowl on, we will see if the nose pitches up as without. I will continue testing for the perfect thrust angle. Still at 3 degrees, was hoping the 15/4 APC would have arrived by now. Surely with the 16/4 it will need 4 degrees right thrust. Wanting to see if it will need any up/down thrust. Adjustments will just be a bit more tedious with the cowl. This coming weekend looks promising, chance of rain, but the jet stream is going up towards J Dubya's area and is bringing in some warm air with less wind. We will see. Joe

Update: just checked the lateral balance of the wing.......dead on right out of the box. Found the center, front and back, stuck a pin in both centers and hung it off a string. Can't get any more accurate than that.

Cowl is back off. Cline recommends the shortest connection possible between the reg. and the carb. It dosn't get any shorter than what I have. The regulator is touching the inside of the cowl and it will definatly rub through. Wonder if I could just use the fuzzy side of velcro as a pad? Back to the drawing board. Joe

Joe you can just let the cline hang if you need to. It's not the cleanest looking install, but with a cowl it doesn't matter. You'd be surprised that it really doesn't move much at all. If you use medium fuel tubing it's stiffness is enough to keep the cline from flopping around. Not to mention that the area between the Saito and the firewall is small enough that it doesn't allow anything in there to move too much. I actually have mine in that area with a simple zip tie holding it to the engine mount. (rather loosely I might add). You don't want it fastened down so tight that it picks up the engine vibration.

Coo, my original concern was the screws from the metal plate rubbing through the fiberglass. I guess I could lengthen the line and tie it back. Then I thought a 90 degree fitting would work, but that is just another unwanted connection. Then I thought I could spin the carb, but it would require re routing the throttle linkage and extending the high end needle out the other side. You are right, just lengthen the line and tie it back. No problems with a longer length? Joe

My line is 1.5 inches with no problems at all.

You can also wrap a piece of rubber around the regulator to protect it against rubbing the engine or the cowling.

Ya its been windy here for 3 days now 25-40+ at times ,raining sideways ...the only good thing about it is the snow is melting fast.....It my clear off this weekend ......Good luck flyin....JW

UPDATE-


was running up the engine in the backyard when I noticed the firewall screws coming undone!! Damn thing is still breaking in so it shakes violently. Screws came out and even knocked out 2 of the blind nuts. Went to the LHS got the Blue threadlocker the car guys use and a new set of blind nuts. Now I have to rip out the throttle server tray, remove the tank and install the new blind nuts. After reinstallation I have to cut out and make a new servo tray, reinstall tank etc etc etc etc

What a PITS it has become! Will not maiden this weekend because it will rain and winds will be high. Now I will setup it back up and try agaon for next week. [:@]

LOL No fair! I only went out once last week. This weekend the high winds and rain storms will keep us grounded most the time

Sat= decent start to the day but I will be out cruising with the local Lotus car club, then rain late afternoon
Sun= rain on and off all day! going to take the little lady to see a concert, A Perfect Circle

now that I am taking it apart I am noticing what everyone has complained about, there are some design flaws that got wayyyy overlooked. Not that im complaining but I have seen the light!!

Brian, in regards to your Qs
#1 my fuel lines come out under the tank.
#2 my engine mount ended up flush with the side of the fuse. On three degrees the spinner is centered. I did have to elongate the mount holes to attain that side offset.
#3 I will offer you the rule that I always follow. I do not maiden my own planes. I always (even though this is #4) start with recommended CG and control throws. I would rather be able to bring it home and make adjustments, as tedious as they are, than find out its a handful in the air.
#4 On the fuel tank, if you can figure out how to keep the Velcro from coming off the fuel tank, then go for it. I made two small light ply spars, which are removable, to hold mine down. Pics in past posts.
#5 My battery and RX are stacked by the trailing edge. All is in the compartment. All models are different. Its a balancing act.
#6 I use Dubro push rod exit grommets with the flang filed off and a piece of fuel line through it to protect the wire. More substantial than the antenna exit grommets by Dubro, but they do work. Joe

Brian, holes are drilled and ready to go. On the centers I milled out all but a thin film that you can finish off with a pen knife if you go stock tank install. If not, they will cover the stock hole in the firewall. On the return postage that you provided, is that a .09 cent stamp or an upside down .60 cent stamp? I'm no stamp collector, so I better ask the guy with the blue shorts and the can of mace.
