I've got the Twist 60 on order! I think I'm going to try to shoehorn my Webra 1.20 into it. The Webra weighs just a tad over 20 ounces!
What do you guys think? Is the Twist 60 going to be like the 40 size and be able to handle all that extra engine? I'll let everyone know in mid August according to Horizon.

Thanks,
Joel

A Tiller Bar??? Thats great !!!! 36 years now of flying and thats the first time I've ever heard of such a thing..... wish I new about that when I housed my 4 stroke in there. looks great!! ditto on the nice work TimC. The camera is probably fine, its our older eyes that might be getting fuzzy, maybe its from trying to keep an eye on that plane we all fly, how many times have ye'all Twisted into the sun ball by accident? You're sick!;) But by all means try it - 20oz sounds pretty light for such a big engine.

Well raining again here NY, But that didn't stop 2 of us, we went and flew for about 2 hours, the 1st 2 flights was just raining steadily, then a lightning bolt almost scared us away, when we realized it wasn't lightning, it was the Twist blasting out of the low clouds, next 2 flights the rain let off to a sprinkle, great flights though That is all.

Wow, what a day!!! The clouds were painted on a blue canvas and a soothing breeze kept the windsock parallel to the ground. There was seven pilots, but only six flew......the sky was alive with model aircraft. I maidened my rebuilt FunT_ _ a, and I'm happy to report that the .91 Magnum 4-stroke performed better than expected! WOW!!! It doesn't get any better than this! Peace, Downtrodden

AMEN DT,,, Glad to hear the .91 is performing great for you,, It doesn't get any better then that, well unless of course I had the .91 working for me;):D

I have to report a windy day and a twist and an over confidant pilot made contact with the ground wingtip first. oops man she disassembled seeing that plane come appart on her 2nd day was a heart felt moment. I sure am happy I save all the scrap wood and paper from repairs ive made for other people cuz she looked top shelf today and i flirted a little less close to terra firma ok so one wing tip may be a tad heaver than the other but she still rips open the sky. Gusty days are not what this plane was made for but what fun flying backwards is and landing without going forward 1 foot from 100 feet up that just makes for a fun day I might have to buy a few of these. trouble is i get the $2000 large scale planes out and i cant stop pushing my limits. I feer im gonna start cashing checks i cant cover but what did god make these for anyhow to look at? Glue $5.00 picking up every last piece so you can get the tail to line up right = Priceless

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D

Sorry to hear of the mishap Blue, But you did the right thing, always pick up all the pieces, it always glues right back together, I do have to disagree with the gusty day comment though, for $99.00 & the way the twist handles, it was made to push every limit you can think of, I love flying this plane on a completely calm day but its a blast in high winds as well, try taking off in a good strong head wind at full speed, pull straight up, then knock back the engine to a slow idle and just watch that twist fly in a hover position, straight back the way the winds blowing, throw in a couple of full left or right aileron shots, and she just dances in the wind, almost like falling from the sky tumbling, only its moving vertical to the ground tumbling sideways, quite a site to see, but you can't get that effect on a calm day at all, well I can't anyway. Play in the wind, you won't regret it.[8D]

if you dont crash your not pushing your limits hard enough :))

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D

I had a great weekend of fying as well. It sure was perfect weather around here. I got out both Saturday and Sunday. Sunday was a little windy, but I like the wind as well Waldo. It makes some things a bit more difficult, but others much more fun. I think it is good practive no matter what. I am amazed at how well she handles in the wind. I was getting some wing rocking as i was coming in nice and slow. I found more throttle took out most of it.

I have a question for you guys. I am switching from plain Wildcat 15% fuel to the 2 Cycle/ 4 Cycle version because I am getting into some Cycle motors. I flew a tank of it yesterday, and it ran great. After 1 flight, I found that my glow plug was fried. Is this becasue of the different make up of the new fuel. Is there a particular glow plug I should be using with this new fuel? My guess is that because I changed fuel maybe it was running at a slightly different temp, or perhaps the different make up of the fuel affected the glow plug when the old residue and new fuel combined. I figure a new glow plug should take care of my problem. Was hoping you guys might have some insight and suggestions.

Thanks,

Adam

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D

Adam, if the new fuel is still 15% nitro, the only other thing that can effect the needle setting is the oil content. If you were running the engine rich with the old fuel, it wouldn't seem a few % more oil content in the new fuel would lean the engine enough to burn out the glowplug. Anyway, whenever I switch fuels, even if the new fuel brand has the same nito content, I always re-set the high speed needle, just to be safe.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D

I agree with Tim, The changing of those particular fuels shouldn't effect the plug at all, I was running regular 2 stroke fuel 15% and switched over to 2 & 4 15% This year only because they didn't have the 4 stroke fuel where I went, But I had no problems at all with the plug, in either motors my 2 or my 4, but I did re adjust my needle settings also.

Thanks for the responses guys. Maybe it was just coincidence. I will put in a new plug and see what happens.

ive ran casses of the 2 & 4 stroke wild cat and had not changed a plug in 2 years

Tried a couple of flights in the afternoon, and two in the evening yesterday with the new fuel and new glow plug. Everything seems to be working fine. I still don't have the low rpm mixture needle adjusted quite right. Ihave had several flame outs. I guess i just took for granted how perfectly she was tuned before. I am getting it closer to worked out now.

It was a beautiful night to fly last night. There was no wind at all and the sky was breathtaking. Have had a lot on my mind as of late, and the calming affect of carving up the sky with my Twist has been much needed. For 12 minutes all of my focus is on making that yellow balsa ship do as I command it.

Hope you all get out flying in this heat that seems to be all over the country.

Adam

gjeffers, came up early this morning and we went out to the dry lake to get a few flights in before the heat got unbearable. He brought his new U-Can-Do 3-D 40 with a Saito 1.00. He had about five good flights and the inverted flat-spins were something to see. I was finally going to test out the new Jett .76 on my Pizazz, but soon into the first flight, the plane was acting strange. Gary said "Look at the elevator flutter". I could see it shaking pretty bad, so I eased it around and made a landing. Two of the three hinges on the right elevator were busted in half. The elevator was hanging by one hinge and the control rod. Well, I still had my Slow Poke and flew it until I pancaked it on landing again and smashed the landing gear blocks in the wings. Still and all, I brought them home in fixable condition, and sometimes that's pretty good.

I am running my twist with a magnum 70 four stroke, I have been told that a 14x4 prop is the best prop to use. Unfortunatly I dont have a 14x4 prop and neither does my hobby shop. I do have a 14x6 prop. Will that prop work until I get a 14x4 ordered?

What you guys think of the Twist as a good second airplane. I had heard that it did have weak gear though. Is there any truth to that claim. Any comments would be great.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D

chris, a 13x6 or a 13x4W should work. Futaba owner, I haven't had any problem with the stock landing gear. There hasn't been any talk of weak gear on this thread that I can remember. Ghee-gross cleaned his off a few times, but I think he hit a curb. When you do that, something has to give. There have been several people who have posted in this thread use the Twist as a second plane. Just use the recommended low throws only until you get used to it. Some simulator time would go a long way to guarantee success.

The Twist was my second airplane and I think it's just right. Flys great with a 46 size engine, will do most 3D, lands like a trainer but flies better than a trainer on windy days. You can't go wrong getting one of these for a second plane.

Thanks Tim, so I am guessing a 14x6 would not work then? And how well will it slow down for landing with a 13x6 prop on it?

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D

chris, I use a 14x6 on my .91 Saito. I think it is way too much for a .70. I never tried anything but a 13x6 on my 70 four stroke, but the 13x4W should work fine. I have the same problem you have. Just one little hobby shop 80 miles south that doesn't have much of a selection. I've learned to be patient while waiting for a package to arrive. I think the 13x6 will slow down fine for landing. Waldopepperaxel uses a 70 in his Twist. Maybe he will help you out with prop selection.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D

Thanks for the info Tim, I will go put the 13x6 prop on and see how she does tomorrow.
