OUCH!!! Are all of these yours?
I just bought one of these, just waiting on the spinner adapter to get it in the air. I've heard about the failures behind the cockpit, but those look "final". |

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
i broke mine twice on one twist, they break right behind the canopy. you can pull the covering back and renforce that area, but it'll break somwere else.

Holy Jeepers DownT,,,,,,,, It looks like you have a bunch of newborns growing [:-] and they just haven't reached adult hood yet :D I'd say you have one for each kid you have, Talk about a family,, I hope they all make it back to the sky, Maybe you can put them all together,, 5 tail sections all boiling down to one fuse and maybe 2 wings put together,, Just think of the Throw action on that puppy..[>:]

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Down,
Talk about a sad picture. I am sure there is a good story behind each of those tails. I kept the pieces of T__st #1 for a while, but I threw them out when I cleaning out the bone yard. You see, when my wife gets frustrated, or is trying to reason with me on why she shouldspend more money, she counts the wrecks as part fo my fleet. I found if I throw out the evidence, they are quickly forgotten. I am getting wiser these little tricks. A guy has to get creative when it comes this addiction. Waldo, You are sure getting handy with you art work. I laughed out loud when I saw the picture of the multiple tailed wonder you drew up. I love the colors, they are perfect. You even have the little propellers spinning. You are very creative. Reimorei, I didn't know you could do that with the T___t. I typically do more of a hover than a harrier. I can see the advantages to more of a hover as far as control near the ground. It looks like the propwash over the wings at more of a harrier angle makes more stable than just hanging from the prop. I am going to have to give that a try. Adam |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Dang Waldo.......you had me laughing so hard after looking at your design, Thanks! I needed a good laugh!
Peace, Downtrodden |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
To save a lot of reading, would any of you guys tell me if anyone has installed an OS .91 for power in this ARF. If so, is it way over-kill ? MM
|
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Mike, several have installed .91 Magnum four strokes. Not many have reported back with the results. Let me do some digging and see if I can find the posts.
|
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Not to my knowledge, but why not? The fuse might have to be at a 45 degree angle to the ground in order for the shallow pitch prop to clear the ground though. (Custom landing gear and huge wheels.) Imagine a 2-stroke swinging a 17x4W? Just a reminder.........the T _ _ _ T was not meant to be flown fast. I've seen plenty U-Can-Dos turned into U-Can't-Dos by being flown too fast..........balsa spread from one end of the field to the other when the tail half explodes from excessive flutter!!
Keep us posted. Peace, Downtrodden. |

I put wire landing gear on my Twist and the fuse hasn't broken yet. I've had several rough landings and all I have to do is reform to factory specifications (bend it).

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Mike, I only could find one post by using "Search this Thread" at the bottom, and he was just considering installing a .91. He said the .91 in a Magnum is only one ounce heavier than a .70. If this is the case, weight would not be a factor, except for the taller gear and bigger wheels that Downtrodden mentioned. I'm thinking the vibration of the big motor on a lightweight airframe like the Twist might want to shake it apart. I just went through this with a Pizazz and a Saito .82. Also the torque of that big prop swinging on the little Twist would want to spin it the opposite way. It might be fun to go ahead and try it and see what happens. Be sure and come back and share the results.

That looks fine PropSpinner. I bet you shaved off a few ounces with the gear change. I worked for a good part of the day trying to repair the damage to the landing gear blocks in the wing of my Slow Poke. I was having so much fun I ran the fuel out and had to bring it in dead stick in a gusting wind. I was just about to make touchdown when a gust took it up about 6 feet and then quit. It was a textbook pancake. My repair skills suck and I have to think about every move I make. I don't have anything but pine for the blocks. I hope this will work OK.

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Thanks guys. I currently run a Saito .80 on mine with giant 5 inch wheels and taller/ stronger landing gear. [ for grassy fields ] The .80 just does'nt run smooth any more so I was thinking about an .82 or the OS .90. Both about the same price. Extra power would come in handy for the floats that I can put on the Twist. [ Yes, it does fly with Falcon Floats pretty good ] Well, gotta go, there's an alarm going off in the machinery room. Seeya, MM:)

RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Hey Prop I bet she lands like there is a pogo stick under her, gotta love that spring loaded landing gear for the easy factory restore if needed.
TimC The Pine should work just fine, as a little added strength, I would either soak the blocks in dope thinner (Just brush it on) or coat it with epoxy, I've used Pine before on landing blocks just because it was all I had laying around at the time, I did fuel proof them for extra strength, and I never had a problem with them splitting, so I don't even know if it was necessary or not. that was on an Sig Cub kit, I landed that puppy pretty hard a few times, but like most of my planes the Ernst Kessler Death spin put that baby to rest, But the landing blocks were undamaged & Still attached to the balsa frame. Go figure,[:-] I have even used pine for firewalls (2 pieces epoxied together with the grains crossed) never had a problem, it did crack though on that damn death spin thing,,, But the rest of the plane was toast crumbs.[8D] Have you figured out that I like to death spin a lot..:D The death spin is done quite often by me, but the Ernst Kessler Death spin must come all the way to about 2 feet of the ground after pulling out for heart stopping effectiveness to the crowds. [X(] if your real good,, you can drag the tail into the grass, Mind you at this point your plane is at WOT and Max speed,,, I've yet to complete this spin successfully, Sure I've pulled out at 10 feet, 5 - 8' Etc.... Many times, but its not the same as a good commitment to the 1 or 2 foot scream [sm=omg_smile.gif] only when I'm ready and I know I need a new plane do I attempt the EKDS.. DownT Glad I could make you laugh,,, But I was serious, [sm=tired.gif] This is your mission if you choose to except it,,,, LOL,, I'm just kidding[8D] Be good all |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
ORIGINAL: ghee-grose Tim, you didn't cut down that "Lone Pine" over there where you live did you??? ;) I have a question for all you Twist re-builders. Today I'm going to replace the broken elevator hinges on my Pizazz. These have been replaced once before and the trailing edge of the horiz. stab is getting a little shop worn. I don't have Waldo's photo shop skills (funny picture by the way), so I'll try to explain. Would it work if I cut square sections out of the elevator and stab, and epoxied in new wood so I can install new CA hinges in the original position? |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D

Yes that would work, But it would be easier to just install the new hinges next to the old ones, you won't notice the difference at all, because of this exact problem, I started using 3 pins in each side of the hinge, so If something happened I could replace the hinge or the surface control without having to deal with the glued areas, you just pop out the hinges and replace what needs to be fixed and then pin it right back in again, no glue,, No fuss, no trying to hurry and put your moving surfaces on as the glue is drying up on you,, plus the pin heads look like rivets. and I never lost a plane because of the hinge letting go either. Sorry,, but here is another Paint brush picture again,, I can't wait to get a dang digital Camera....

Seeya, MM:) I would love to see a picture of a Twist on floats.:D Waldo, Actually land good with the wire gear. I don't know what my Twist weighs but I imagine it's on the light side so the wire gear holds it up good. I started my battery hatch. I've pealed the covering back and started cutting a cover the size of the hole. |
RE: Hangar 9 Twist 3D
Twisters,
There is a fun fly coming up at our flying field, and I am going to start my practice sessions with the Twist after work. She is currently sitting in my truck looking out the window waiting to be set free. It has been several days since the last flight, and that is rare. I am thinking it will make a good fun fly plane. Most of the contests have to do with spot landings, limbo contest, and a bomb drop. I need your guys help to brainstorm on this bomb drop thing. I have never seen one on a plane. I want to rig something externally, and somewhat simply. I have an open channel, and I am planning on using a standard servo. I would like to rubber band or tie wrap the mechanism on so it can be removed without damaging the plane. Any ideas? Adam |

Poke repair Episode II. I finished the repair. I wasn't sure how to patch back in the sheeting, so I did it like a boiler casing repair. I glued in finger bars around the perimeter of the patch so it would have something to sit on and maintain elevation. Now I have to remember to use the timer function on the transmitter to keep from running out of fuel again. The cat "Squeaky Toy" never offered to help once during the repair.

Paint brush is not really my thing:eek: really..... ,,;)
Try using the servo arm and a rod that would go through some kind of clip attached to the item being dropped,, that way when you move the arm one way the rod should slide past the clip and the item will just fall off, I have had a number of mechanisms for this and that is by far the simplest . Tim Nice repair job,, Looks great !!! I think Squeeky Cat deserves no rations today. |

Lord sakes, what is that hanging from the chute?? Er, I mean nice parachute guy.
