hey Mac what engine do you have yours,I have a g-26 on mine but need to know what rpm I should get with a 18/6 prop.

hi Mac,
i've got an email into Barb right now who has been great with me so far. she has already sent me a cowl, top wing and tail set for a Skybolt i was having problems with.
i'd send the ailerons in, but from what i have seen of replacement parts, i'd probably be back where i started. i don't mind stripping and recovering the existing ailerons, it'll give me a chance to sand out the warts in the structure anyways:D. i wish i'd known anout the wheels though. the included wheels are nice and light, but hardly capable of absorbing 14 lbs of aircraft bounce.

Well, yes, and no. When I'm trying to decide on what model to purchase, I like to thouroghly research the subject, wrather that just buy it because I like the way it looks.

This thread is kinda like one stop shopping, when it comes to researching the Stearman. I feel that reading it all was time well spent.

The best part is that you guys like the SS. I found no posting that would discourage me from buying it.

Now, all I have to do is convince myself to part with the $$$.

Toledo will be here soon. Maybe I can find a deal :D

Hello FF,

I will be using a Brillelli 36 GT it will swing a 20/8 prop @ 6800. You should get about 8000 rpm or more on your G-26 using a 16/8 prop

hey Mac,,I,m gettine about 7700 rpms with a 18/6 prop with a B&H TYPE MUFFLER.so I,m in the ballpark,but should get more?My g-26 is still new I have about 2 1/2GALS throught it so far,do you think it will get better,thats is what I,m being told anyway when I have between 3 to 5 gals through.

Hey FF,

Ya you will continue to get more rpms as the engine breaks in. It will take 3-5 gallons of fuels to fully break in.
I have a Brison 3.2 on its 3rd season and it is still not broke in fully as I dont fly the plane to much

hey guys, i have these servos i'd like to use for the ailerons in this bird,

they are light and put out 50 oz. in torque.
anyone see any problems using these on all four ailerons?

i'm using an OS 1.20 w/pump for power.

The power looks okay but I'm not sure you can mount them in the existing openings.

They are only mini servos. I would not reccomend them for the SS. Use normal size servos.

I agree. Don't use them. The torque may be OK, but you don't have much mass behind them. I'd be afraid that they'd vibrate themselve to pieces.

thx for the input..what got me looking at these was the big Reacter by GP.....they use the 9650's all around, and that bird has huge ailerons.
i was just wanting to save some wieght................maybe i'll hollow out the prop instead....LOL

They might be huge ailerons but the wing is a lot smaller in relation the Super Stearman. You are talking about a small electric powered plane vs. a 1/4 scale biplane. You do what you want but beware.....

i'm not talking about a small electric plane......the big one is almost 800 sq inches, wieghs over 6 lbs and is designed for 3D flying................

i've already accepted the fact that they may not be right for the SS and have just ordered some 9001's instead.

I know which plane it is, even though you can put a glow in it, it is designed for electric power. I have gone away from Futaba servos, too expensive. I use the JR Sport line, the 125 MG has been replace with the 126 MG, for $34.00 I get 126 oz. of torque with metal gears. How much does a comparable servo cost from Futaba? Good Luck with your choices.

Your G26 will hit much higher rpm as it run in. My G26 on the SS is on Abell Muffler. Noisy like heck but on fly, it sounded real. Also the power gain is nice.

Now on APC 18x6W, it will hit 8300 rpm. With APC 18x8, its at 7800. This is what I fly now. I was on APC17x8 for a while. Faster with lesser thrust. Then the 18x6W, good thrust and spool up but limited power/speed. The 18x8 is much better as it allow a tad more speed.

how many of you are using the Dubro inflatable wheels?
got a ste today and seem a bit heavy, but if they kill the bounce then they are worth it.
mine are the 400TV (treaded)

I got a set on mine but the only flight I had with them on was the one I crashed on. It definately didn't bounce though!!!:D:D:D

Yes it keep the bounced to minimal. Partly the bounced of SS come from the ultra rigid LG. The casted fiberglass/concrete/metal whatever is that thing on the LG, does not allow the LG to flex at all. So it will bounced on any less than greasing in.

The inflatable help to an extent. I did not alter the CG setting even with the heavier inflatable. Perhaps that increase my landing speed a tad and it allow much more smoother landing. Remember if you are too slow, it will snap stall on you and also its likely not enough forward speed to bleed off the bounce.

I found out that some forward speed help to smooth out the landing. With the inflatable, you need to change the screw on the wheel collar otherwise its blocking the nuts/bolts clearance.

Also I keep the air pressure to zero and this absord shock better.

I would also try to land on the mains with a bit of speed not to slow then a touch of down elevator and bleed off the speed and let the tail settle down
