Take a small socket head screw grind the end to fit in the end of the needle valve.Then drill a small hole in the cowl the size of an allen wrench to fit throught to line up with the set screw and adjust. My is in the black line on the cowl and you cant even see it.. I have a Y.S. 140 ...

I've done something like that before too. I ground a slot in the throttle screw and used a flat head screw driver. There were 2 problems with that...first it was hard to find the slot when the engine is running and the second the engine vibrated too much to keep the screw driver in the slot. I guess an Allen wrench would stay a little better as long as the socket head screw is large enough.

use a socket head cap screw and place shrink tube over it, then shrink it down. Then use a ball driver to change setings. The shrink tube keeps the ball driver from vibrating out. Worked for me.

Using a shrink tube on over a SHCS with an Allen wrench is a very cool idea. I'm going to look at one.
I've also done the one with the fuel tubing over the screw, in fact had to do that with a trainer I have (I’m training my 8 old grand daughter) because I’m using an older OS and the throttle screw is hard to get at.

You are correct, to each his own. lol I dont run nitro engines anymore at all, and with the gassers, once ya set em, they don't need any further adjustments. Set em a little fat in the winter, and they are good for the summer months. I can't even get to my carb ajustments. I tuned it with the cowl off, and I should never have to touch them again, I love it !
My engine started running lean last night, but I knew it couldn't be an adjustment, and sure enough, my fueler was just leaking. Took the fueler apart, stretched the spring, and im installing a new nitril o ring, and it should be back to perfect again. I fly almost every evening, and it's costing me about $1.50 a night max for fuel. No more nitro for me ! :D
Oh, and there's never any oil on my plane either, I run full synthetic @ 100:1, and it's clean as a whistle... No more rusty bearings either. Nitro fuel draws moisture out of the air like brake fluid. Once ya go gas, you'll never go back. No more glow starter, no more electric starter, just 5 flips for the first start of the evening, and one flip thereafter. Ya gotta love that !

Hi,
I need some feed back on the installation of the center cabanas. The rear brackets of the center cabanas are fitting the fus okay but the front ones are about 3/8 an inch away from the fus. Is it normal to have to push down on wing to make them fit. I don't really expect everything to be perfect but I don't like to bolt things down under tension. I left all the screws lose to allow for fit up. Tomorrow I’ll put a straight edge on the wing to see if it is straight or bowed and align the two wings to make sure they are parallel as per the instructions before tighting everything down. I didn’t follow the instructions step by step...I guess I should have done this sooner but she’s just about done. I hope to have it flying by this Sunday.

I had to on mine, so I would say yes. It shouldn't take much pressure though. Mine needs a little (maybe 2 degree's) of elevator downtrim for level flight, so maybe I should have pushed down a little harder on the front. Nah, it flys likes it's on rails, so thats perfect enough for me... You can always add a couple of flat washers under the front or rear of the top wing for minor trimming, but im not going to bother. I love the way it flys as it is. :)

Thanks! ;) I didn't think it was a big deal but it never hurts to ask. Just wanted to make sure I'm on the right track. The instructions do have a few mistakes but over all they are pretty through. GP has been around for a long time so I'm sure they did their R&D.
A few people wrote about the incidence but I'm going to see how she flys before trying to adjust it.

It's really starting to look great. :D I'm hoping it flys as good as it looks. So far the only thing that has really bothered me about this plane, haven't flown it yet, is all the wrinkles. I think these little problems come when they try to cut corners to save money and in the long run it seems to be biting them in the a.. I know a lot of people have complained about the landing gear cracking but I'm using a low bounce tire and going to keep in mind what someone posted about landing. He said when coming in make sure to touch down on the front wheels then let the tail come down, that's pretty much what I try to do with taildraggers anyway.

I edited more into my last post in case you want to reread.
Yes, the landing gear glass covering is prone to cracking, so when I saw the cracks starting, I put scotch tape over the leading and trailing edges of the glass covering. It undectable when lookin at it unless I point it out, and the cracks havn't spread any further.

My camera makes my pics 800x600, but I think they don't post here until I shrink em to 400x300 (50%). I could verify that if you would like... Let me know. Dennis

Haven't tried posting pictures on RCU yet but I think you're right. I found that if you resize pictures 1/2 or less you reduce the file size which makes them easier to open. I do that when I send pics in an e-mail.

I think I got it…finally I now understand how to post a picture. [sm=spinnyeyes.gif]
This is a sample of a set of pictures that I took showing how I assembled the upper wing with servos. I hid a Y harness in the wing and only have one lead wire coming out. I covered the wire with white electrical tape (next time I will use white shrink tubing) and will run it down one side of the center cabane. This will connect in the connector that is in the fuss per the instruction. The idea is that wire will be barely noticeable. This pic is the finished assy of the hidden Y harness before I glued the two wing halfs together.
If anyone is interested I will post the full set of pictures that illustrate the procedure.

For those of you that used a Saito 150 in their GPSS. I would like to know what you did to stop the siphoning effect or is there a problem at all. It appears that the carb is lower then the center of the fuel tank and I’m having a problem tuning the engine. The plane is built to except a 120 so it would be the same setup for the carb. (?)[sm=72_72.gif]
I’m not using any external plump, just the engine as is. Is it the carb has to be above the center or the air intake that has to be above? If it’s the air intake then I was thinking of putting some kind of extension on it.
Any advice?

Anyone have a TME smoke system on there stearman with a G26 and stock muffler? I have been working on installing one on mine. I dont have any flights with the system yet but on the ground it sure dos'nt seem to make much smoke. I have been using deisel mix right now and have tried other things also. I run up the airplane on the gound til it is good and warm and not to much smoke. I have even injected oil ditectly into the muffler. Is the muffler not hot enough?

Has anyone ever had a problem with siphoning. I'm using a Saito 150 and the carb is lower then the center of the thank. Any ideas?

I have the same problem on one of mine. I don't put the fuel line on until I'm ready to fly. I have heard of others using a small clamp or a close pin. The best thing to do is if you can, move the fuel tank lower. Good luck !

Well I finished my Stearman, it's ready to fly.[sm=biggrin.gif]
I built a stand out of PVC so I don't have to disassemble the plane.
Here are a few pics of the stand and the plane, and how she fits in my Ford Aerostar minivan.
Now days with gas prices as they are I just use the van to haul my planes and utility.

You will notice I had to slant the 2 front uprights forward so I can get the wheels around the stand but it really isn't that hard to load on the stand. Then I strap it down with bungee and load the whole thing in the van. It will fit with the spinner and prop but it's a little easier to load with out them.
The only things left to do are the decals, fly wires and wanted to add 6 red stars across the top wing.
And we are off the field this Sunday for her maiden flight.

PS: I still have the siphoning problem but someone told me to loop the fuel line up then down to the fuel nipple but it didn’t work so I looped it down pass the nipple then back up again into the nipple and that seem to be working. But I decided to buy a shut off valve from Tettra that mounts to the exterior; it’s on its way. So all I’ll have to do is shut the valve off before cutting the engine then let the engine just die.
